65. Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Don't go breaking my heart
I couldn't if I tried
Honey if I get restless
Baby you're not that kind

Jughead nervously tapped his foot on the ground as they sat in the court, watching as Cheryl swore on the bible. Amethyst had grabbed a hold of both of Jughead's hands and he nervously played with her fingers as they waited to see if Cheryl would go through with the plan.

"It'll work out. Cheryl will go through with it," Amethyst said quietly to Jughead. "I'm sure she will."

Jughead just sighed in response as Cheryl sat back down in her seat.

"Ms. Blossom, you may proceed with your statement," the judge told her.

"Your Honor, I speak for myself and my mother when I say we forgive FP Jones for the part he played in covering up my brother's murder, and we humbly ask the court for leniency," Cheryl told the judge, then faced the crowd in front of her, her eyes locked onto FP. "FP's guilt has been blown out of proportion to satiate what my father's suicide denied us. Closure."

The judge shook his head. "As much as I sympathise, I can't ignore the quality of Mr. Jones' crimes. There were no extenuating circumstances."

Cheryl quickly looked out towards Amethyst, who rose an eyebrow up at her. She told her that Cheryl had to prove to the court that her and her mother had forgiven him, or she would post the murder video.

"My father threatened him," Cheryl said quickly. Amethyst smiled lightly as she watched the judge turn back to listen to her. "I overheard them talking in Daddy's study. Daddy said he would hurt Jughead if FP didn't comply." Cheryl sighed. "Is that extenuating enough?"

The judge looked back out to everyone. "In light of these revelations, I suggest that we take a step back and reevaluate certain aspects of the case. At which time, we will revisit the sentencing. Adjourned."

Amethyst watched as Cheryl stood up and walked out of the booth.

"Is that a win?" FP asked Jughead as the two stood up.

"It's a delay. So, yeah," Jughead said with a smile before bringing his father into a hug.

Cheryl was about to past Amethyst, when Amethyst reached forward and gave Cheryl a hug. "Thank you," she said quietly, before pulling away. Amethyst grabbed onto her hands. "You did the right thing."

Amethyst dropped the small USB into Cheryl's hands inconspicuously. "Yeah, whatever. You'd do anything for family, I get it," Cheryl took her hands out of Amethyst's. "I just wish that my family would do the same."

She turned around and walked off, Amethyst watching her with a sad frown.

"Amethyst," FP called out.

Amethyst turned back around to the two Jones boys and smiled lightly. FP held his arm out. "Join the hug."

Amethyst frowned as she looked between the two. "It's alright if I stay out of your special little family moment," she told him. "I don't mind."

FP rose an eyebrow. "But you are family."

A grin quickly made its way across Amethyst's face, and she couldn't help but chuckle when she was pulled into a hug with the two males.

"Your dad! I can't believe it!" Amethyst said brightly as her and Jughead sat around Pop's, pretty much doing nothing as no one arrived. "God, this is so good! He won't be locked away for so long."

"Buttercup, there's still a chance the jury won't go through with it," Jughead told her.

Amethyst lightly slapped his arm. "I'm thinking of the positives in this situation, Juggy. I think you should too."

Jughead smiled. "I believe the positive one out of the two of us has always been you."

Amethyst smiled back. "You have been more positive than me in some instances."

Jughead rose an eyebrow. "Like what?"

"Like when we saw Star Wars for the first time," Amethyst said.

Jughead shook his head as he looked down. "I don't understand why you don't like the movies. They're amazing."

Amethyst snorted. "No, they're not."

"Okay, another example?" Jughead asked.

"You're always positive in the mornings," Amethyst said.

"I don't understand why, considering I look like the grudge in the morning and you look like a goddess," Jughead stated.

Amethyst narrowed her eyes. "Do not."

Jughead chuckled. "You're telling me that you don't look gorgeous?"

"I'm telling you I don't look good in the morning," Amethyst corrected. "I look alright for the rest of the day."

Jughead smiled lightly. "That's an understatement."

"Oh yeah?" Amethyst asked. "Well, you are pretty beautiful yourself."

Jughead chuckled as he looked down. "Do I look like a goddess too?"

"More like a god," Amethyst said

"So you think I look good?" Jughead asked, leaning in slightly so that their faces were inches apart.

"Most definitely," Amethyst smiled, before placing her lips lightly onto Jughead's.

"Oh, lord, the day has come!" Kevin chirped from the other side of the room, fanning himself as he pretended to faint onto Veronica. "They're so beautiful!"

"They truly do make a beautiful couple," Veronica commented with a smile, watching as the two pulled away with grins.

No more than ten minutes later, people started arriving to the diner due to Betty posting on her social media's that the Pussycats would be performing. Amethyst happily became a waitress and handed people thickshakes, burgers and the like.

Amethyst had currently just given Alice Cooper a mug of coffee when she noticed Hermione and Hiram Lodge talking with Veronica. Amethyst watched for a second, before noticing the awkward look on Veronica's face so she stepped in.

Amethyst smiled at Veronica's parents. "Hey, Hermione. Mr Lodge. Thank you for coming to Pop's this evening," she said. "I'll take you to a spare table if you want to follow me."

Hermione smiled lightly down at the girl. "Thank you, Amethyst. That would be much appreciated."

Amethyst smiled at the two before she turned around and walked towards the booth where Amethyst and the group usually sat at. She picked up two menus as she passed, and then waited as Hiram and Hermione sat together.

"Here are the menus," Amethyst said as she handed them two menus. "Just call me over when you decide upon what you want."

"Thank you, Amethyst," Hiram said before Amethyst turned around and walked off.

Amethyst walked towards Kevin, who was leaning against a counter and watching what Amethyst was doing. Amethyst pinched the bridge of her nose as she exhaled.

"God, he is such a DILF," she said.

Kevin nodded as he glanced back at their table. "He blesses my eyes every time I look at him."

Amethyst sat beside him and looked back over towards the table. "That family has such good genes," she said. "Like, look at Hiram and Hermione, two gorgeous adults in their solid forties, and then Veronica, probably the most gorgeous girl at school."

"I'm jealous," Kevin said.

"You could say that again," Betty said as she leant against the counter as well.

Amethyst noticed Hermione lock eyes with her and motioned the girl over, so Amethyst got off of the bench and walked over to the couple.

"Have you two decided what you want?" Amethyst asked.

"Yes. I would like the veggie burger with a chocolate shake, please," Hermione smiled.

"Nice choice, Hermione," Amethyst noted as she quickly scribbled it down on her pad. "And you, Mr Lodge?"

"Double beef and bacon burger and fries with a chocolate shake," Hiram said. "Oh, and you can call me Hiram if you'd like."

Amethyst smiled lightly. "Sure thing," she said. "Your food won't be long."

Amethyst turned around and walked back towards the kitchen, pretending to blow the end of her hand gun as she passed an astonished Kevin.

The night was going pleasantly well. Some of the Serpent's, including Hudson arrived to have some burgers, and Alice typed away happily on her MacBook.

"I gotta put her on the spot," Pop Tate said, pointing at Betty. "It's thanks to this young lady here that Pop's gets to stay open tonight, tomorrow, as long as you folks keep coming."

Everyone applauded and cheered for Betty, and Amethyst sent her a thumbs up.

"Thanks also to the Lodge family," he continued, "for a donation they just made that gives us a little cushion to weather any storm that might come up."

Betty grinned as she walked towards Pop and gave him a big hug. Everyone settled down into their seats, and the group of Betty, Archie, Jughead, Amethyst and Veronica sat down in a booth with on-the-house food.

"Ronnie, should I introduce myself to your dad?" Archie asked her.

"You've faces enough dragons for one night," Veronica told him. "Next time, Archiekins."

"I've introduced myself to him," Amethyst told the two of them. "Does that mean that I'm allowed to be with Veronica now?"

Everyone chuckled as Veronica playfully threw a chip at Amethyst.

"So, I guess tonight is a win for the good guys," Betty smiled.

"A rare win, but yes," Jughead agreed. "Thanks to Betty."

"Cheers to Betty!" Amethyst announced, before they all clinked glasses.

Archie then looked out of the window, a distant look on his face as Amethyst cuddled in to the side of Jughead.

"Are you alright?" Veronica quietly asked him.

Archie looked back at her and nodded. "I'm with you guys," he said. "So, yeah, I think so."

"Good on you, Arch," Amethyst smiled at him.

"So, are you two ready for your new school tomorrow?" Betty asked Jughead and Amethyst.

Amethyst groaned as she placed her head in her hands. "Don't remind me about it," she said. "I don't even have anything to wear."

"Okay, that's a lie. I've seen your closet," Jughead told her.

"Can I wear one of your jackets?" Amethyst asked him.

Jughead nodded with a small smile. "Sure."

Archie sighed. "I'll miss you two at school, though. It won't be the same."

Jughead shrugged. "We'll still see each other at Pop's and such, just not as often."

"But at least I'm not going there by myself," Amethyst said. "If I did, I would probably be sitting in the bathroom at lunch."

"I think I would too," Jughead said. Amethyst chuckled as he wrapped a comforting arm around her, relieving her of her doubts for the next day.
