62. I Believe in Us
I've been dreaming that you love me in the morning
Love me when the morning comes
I've been dreaming that you love me when the fighting
Love me when the fighting's done
"Who's hungry?!" Jughead announced as him, Amethyst and Pop Tate walked into the hospitals waiting room with bags of Pop's food in their arms.
"We've got fries and onions rings and burgers, even the vegetarian kind," Amethyst told everyone as they stood up.
"Oh, nice, Jones and Moore," Reggie said with a grin as he patted their backs.
Amethyst manoeuvred herself away from him. "Keep your hands off of me, Mantle," she warned.
Reggie chuckled and held his hands up in surrender. "Alright, Moore, whatever you say."
After handing food out to everyone, Archie pulled Veronica, Betty, Jughead and Amethyst aside and to a seperate table, where they quietly sat, scared of upsetting Archie.
Amethyst slowly brought her hand out to take a fry and put it in her mouth. Archie's eyes met Betty's and she smiled lightly at him.
"Your dad would be so proud of you, Arch," Betty told him.
"Yeah, you've really been a rock-star god through all of this," Jughead agreed.
Amethyst frowned when Archie didn't reply to them. "Arch, what is it?" She asked. "You know you can talk to us about anything. We're your best friends, and maybe we can help."
Archie shook his head before sighing. "Guys, there's something I haven't told you, because I'm so....I'm so ashamed," he began. Amethyst pushed her chips aside and leant back in her chair as she watched Archie with a sad face. "After the guy fired, I should've rushed to my dad straightaway. Or I should have tackled the guy, but I was - I was paralysed. I didn't move, not even when the guy walked up to me. And he held his gun to my head, and I just closed my eyes. I don't know how long. Long enough for the guy to have taken my dad's wallet, I guess. But I didn't open them until I heard the bell. Pop's bell. Which meant he was gone."
Amethyst quickly wiped away a tear that had fallen from her eye before resting her hand over her mouth.
"There was nothing else you could've done," Betty told him instantly.
"That's not true, Betty. I could've done anything, to comfort my dad, to get the gun away from the guy," Archie shook his head. "No, I was a coward. And now me and my dad, we're witnesses. Pop Tate, too. This guy may have my dad's wallet. All his information. What if he comes back?"
Amethyst pursed her lips and looked down. She knew she couldn't tell Archie that the guy wouldn't come back, because she had a funny feeling that he was going to be back.

Archie returned back to his father after that. And after Demarcus sent Amethyst a message about dinner, she decided that she should leave the hospital for the day and then come back in the morning. Jughead and Amethyst walked out of the hospital, Amethyst only just noticing the pouring rain.
"I hope he wakes up soon," Amethyst mumbled as she leant against the railing and turned around to face Jughead.
"He will," he said, stepping forward so he was standing right in front of her. "Are you sure you don't want a ride home?"
Amethyst shook her head as she looked down at her feet. "The cabin is out of your way. It'll probably be an extra twenty minutes to get back to your trailer. And I have an umbrella anyway."
Jughead placed two fingers under her chin and brought her face up to his. "Are you sure?" He asked quietly.
Amethyst nodded as he eyes flickered from his lips to his eyes. "Yeah, I'm s-sure."
They both just stared at each other. Amethyst didn't know how long, but neither of them made a move to do anything. So, Amethyst began to lean in to press her lips to his. Jughead didn't move. He was frozen, because he didn't know what to do. Amethyst knew he was staring, though she wasn't looking into his eyes anymore. But then she paused. She felt like an idiot, leaning in to kiss someone who wasn't responding back. So, she pulled away.
"I-I'm Sorry," she frowned, stepping away. "That was....that was weird. I don't know what came over me. Why did I do that?" She spoke more to herself than to Jughead, and soon, she was just muttering things to herself.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow?" Jughead eventually asked.
Amethyst nodded. "Yeah, but not too early, of course. Because I most probably won't be awake," she said. "And I'll text you the address."
Jughead nodded. "Okay."
Amethyst frowned in disappointment as she let her shoulders sag before she turned around to face the ramp and opened up her umbrella, only for it to have a massive hole in it. Amethyst groaned as she put the umbrella back in and shoved it into the bin before stepping out into the rain.
Amethyst had walked a few feet into the pouring rain, already feeling her entire body get drenched, when she heard Jughead say, "Fuck it."
Amethyst heard someone running behind her, and she turned around to see Jughead running up to her. "What're you-?" Amethyst didn't get to continue as her arms were gripped and pulled towards the teenage boy with their lips colliding together.
Amethyst's eyes were wide, before she let them flutter close and responded to the kiss. Content bubbled in her stomach and her heart skipped twenty beats, not to mention how weak her legs began to feel and how she almost stopped breathing; had Amethyst not been gripped by Jughead she might've fallen in the middle of the kiss. But, nonetheless, Amethyst returned the kiss with as much passion as the boy in front of her.
Jughead's hand left her arm and planted itself gently on her cheek, the other resting on the back of her neck underneath her hair. The kiss deepened and Amethyst's hands gripped onto the front of his wet jacket. The kiss felt like it went on for years, when it was really just a minute, as their mouths fought for dominance and their tongues were at war.
Jughead slowly pulled away from Amethyst, the two of them out of breath. Amethyst noticed his plump lips, the way the rain droplets fell from his hair and down his face. Her eyes then looked up to meet his, only to find Jughead already staring at her.
"I love you," Amethyst breathed out.
Jughead smiled lightly, his hands still on her cheeks. "I love you."
Amethyst let out a wide grin, one so contagious that is caused Jughead to grin too.
"I love you," Jughead repeated, before laughing quietly to himself. "I love you." He repeated as he kissed Amethyst's cheeks and forehead and nose and chin, constantly repeating those three words as Amethyst giggled in glee.
