13. Here Comes The Sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's alright
Jughead stared at the small model of the whole town. Amethyst stood to the side, nervously biting her nails - a shitty habit she had gotten into when her mother passed. Amethyst had booked an appointment with Mayor McCoy in advanced so her and Jughead could try to convince the Mayor to keep the Drive-in.
"I'm sorry, but the Twilight Drive-in? It's a blight that's become a cesspool. And a hangout for criminals and transients. And the deal's done. Andrews Construction is scheduled to demolish the lost on Monday," Mayor McCoy said.
Jughead licked his lips and tried to come up with some sort of way to make her keep it. "Mayor McCoy, when I was a kid, my family and I, and Amethyst's family would go to the drive-in all the time. We couldn't afford tickets for everyone so my sister, Jellybean, and I would hide in the trunk until we parked. We'd sneak out," Jughead said.
"And that's the same with Demarcus and myself. Mom couldn't afford more than one ticket so we would hide in the trunk," Amethyst said.
"It's like my home," Jughead said. Amethyst looked at him and held his hand, giving it a light squeeze.
"That's a very sweet sentiment, Mr Jones and Miss Moore, but the future of Riverdale is at stake," Mayor McCoy smiled. Amethyst sighed and nodded. "Now, if you two don't mind, I have a meeting in a few minutes."
"That's fine, we have to go back home anyway," Amethyst and Jughead stood up. "Thank you for your time, though."
Mayor McCoy smiled. "Thank you for coming to me with your problems, but sorry I wasn't much help."
"That's alright," Amethyst smiled and then they walked out.

Jughead and Amethyst went to the next person who they could try to persuade to keep the drive-in opened. Someone who was contracted to tear it down.
"Mayor McCoy says you won the contract to tear down the drive-in," Jughead told Fred Andrews.
Fred sighed. "I did." He smiled lightly. "Look, I'm sorry, guys. I know how much you two love the Twilight, and so do I."
Jughead walked to Fred's desk and rested his hands against it. "Mr Andrews, just give me one week to track down the person who bought the land and convince them not to demolish a holy house of cinema."
"It's a big contract for me, Jug, Amie, and for my guys," Fred said. "Whatever they build in place of the drive-in could mean more jobs."
"Yeah, in what? Some hypothetical future?" Jughead scoffed. This was their last chance at keeping the drive-in and now it was gone. "You put one Jones out of work. Why don't you put another, huh?"
"Jug, your dad was taking materials from one of our jobs sites. I had to let him go," Fred said.
"Right...." Jug smiled sarcastically, which frightened Amethyst a bit. "Did what you had to do. Like you're doing here now?" Fred didn't reply.
"Please, Fred. It's the only place besides the hospital where my whole family was together. Demi would always be out before Mom's death. The only time he came home was to go with us to the drive-in, but that's only because I begged him to come," Amethyst pleaded. "Please don't take that memory away from me."
Fred guiltily looked up at Amethyst, having no choice. "I can't put the contract on hold. We didn't buy the land and we don't have a say. I'm sorry."
Amethyst frowned as Jughead grabbed onto her hand. "Later."
Jughead dragged Amethyst out of the building.
•
Amethyst spent her last savings on making Jughead's night perfect. It was the closing night for the drive-in, and Jughead had been moody all day because of it. It was their last night sleeping at the drive-in, the last night they had someplace to stay. They decided they would figure out where to stay the next day so it wouldn't ruin the night ahead.
Amethyst walked back into the operating room at the drive-in with a paper bag full of goods. Jughead was busy cleaning up the grounds to be in the room.
Amethyst placed the paper bag onto a table and pulled out a set of fairy lights. Jumping onto the twin bed, she used blue tack to stick the fairy lights above the bed where the Polaroid photos hung from the wall. Once completed, Amie jumped off the bed and then pushed it with all her might so that it was facing the big cinema screen. She propped up the pillows and added another one that she had bought.
Amethyst then got out a large bowl and walked out of the building to head towards the snack stand. Riley was behind the counter, cleaning the shelves and the cooking equipment.
"Riles, can you fill this bowl up with popcorn please?" Amethyst asked him.
Riley turned around and nodded. "That will be $11 and a kiss on the cheek," he winked.
Amethyst rolled her eyes. "Fuck off and give me my popcorn now before I shove them up your asshole."
Riley smirked. "Okay, princess. Don't need to get feisty with me." Her took the bowl and filled it up with freshly made popcorn. "Here you go. Do try to enjoy your night with that Jughead guy. Even though he's not me."
"Yeah, I will. Thank you for that."
Amethyst snatched the bow out of his hands and walked back up to the operating room. When she entered it, Jughead was looking around the room in amazement. He turned around and faced Amethyst when he heard the door shut.
"You did all this?" He asked as he took note of where the bed was moved so it was in line with the cinema screen.
"Yeah, I know how much this place means to you and I wanted your last night to be great," Amethyst said as she placed the bowl of popcorn down in the floor beside the bed.
When she stood back up, she let out a squeak of surprise when she was suddenly enclosed into a hug. Amethyst tried turning around in Jughead's arms with great difficulty and then hugged him back; his head resting on her shoulder with Amie's face buried in his neck.
Jughead pulled away but kept his hands on her upper arms. "Thank you," he breathed out, his face fanning across Amethyst's face.
Amethyst shrugged like it was no big deal, but was only trying to cover the blush that was rapidly spreading across her cheeks.
"It was nothing. It's just what best friends do," Amethyst said.
Jughead stared into Amethyst's eyes and she did the same, before Amie cleared her throat and sat down on the bed. She placed the bowl of popcorn onto the bed and then got out two bottles of Diet Coke, giving one to Jughead after he started the movie. He lied down beside her and she snuggled up beside him with the bowl of popcorn in front of him.
They watched the movie in silence, the only sound coming out from them was the chewing of the popcorn.
"I'm going to miss this," Amethyst mumbled.
She felt Jughead nod against her head. "These are the only moments I really live for," he said.
Amethyst grinned. "Remember the first time we went to the drive in with our family, and--"
"--Demarcus tipped a whole bucket of water onto our heads when we fell asleep." The two laughed at the memory. "I was honestly so pissed off at him."
"But I repaid him by turning the tap on warm at the same time as he was in the shower," Amie smiled. "I remember hearing him squeak because the water suddenly got freezing cold."
"Has he let you go for that yet?" Jughead asked.
"Nope. He still finds some way to pay me back for things, but I constantly outsmart him," Amethyst said.
"And remember when Jellybean had a huge crush on Demarcus," Jughead said.
Amethyst scoffed. "Didn't every female adolescent and Kevin have one?"
"Yeah, Kevin constantly talked about how he was his dream man. "Mysterious, hot, a bad boy; everything a Kevin Keller needed in his life"," Jughead quoted.
"I always get weird when I heard some girls at school whisper at how good-looking my brother was. And then some, like Cheryl, tried to befriend me so she could get with him," Amethyst rolled her eyes.
Jughead chuckled. "Yeah, but you shot her down before she could even peep a single word out."
"That's because I knew her reputation of being a bitch, and I didn't want that for Demi," Amethyst said. "Not after that bitch Kaela."
"What did she do to him again?" He asked.
"He was obsessed with her, the only girl who he ever had feelings for, and she lead him on and then fucked another guy behind his back. He even walked in on them," Amethyst shook her head. "I never saw him so heart broken before, besides when Mom died."
"With Jellybean's crush, remember when she told us about it and she tried to get us involved with her plan to kiss him at the drive-in?" Jughead laughed.
"She didn't even care about the ten years age gap between the two. She just really liked Demarcus," Amethyst laughed. "And then when she leant in to kiss him--"
"I held up my pet toad and she kissed that." Amethyst belted out laughing and Jughead chuckled.
"I've never seen her that disgusted before in my life," Amie laughed.
"Marcus thought it was hilarious, though, and she forgave me soon because he smiled at her," Jughead said.
"That child's obsession was unbelievable, but I guess everyone has had an obsession with someone older than them when they were that age," Amethyst said. "Mine was with Sebastian Stan, and that man is nineteen years older than me."
Jughead shook his head with a small smile. "What do you mean 'was'? You're still obsessed with that man."
Amethyst rolled her eyes with a small blush tinting her cheeks. "Alright, now," she said. "Who was yours again? I can't seem to remember."
"I've never had an obsession with a celebrity or a girl before. It just doesn't seem right," Jughead said.
Amethyst sat up on her elbows. "Oh, come on! You must have had a crush on someone before. Everyone has."
Jughead thought but no one could come to mind. "Nope. I've never really thought about girls that way before. Especially someone in our year level," he said.
"Yeah, because all teenagers our age think about is sex and they would literally fuck anyone who showed a tad interest in them. It's disgusting," Amethyst screwed up her face. "I mean, if I wanted to lose my virginity, I would want it to be with someone I loved. With someone I trusted and cared about 100%. Not just the first attractive guy that laid eyes on me"
"I'm not sure about the whole "virginity" thing, but I know that when I'm older, I want to have two kids. An older boy and a younger girl, like our siblings now," Jughead said. "And I would be there for them and look after them and try to be the best possible dad I could be to them, unlike our fathers."
"I feel exactly the same way," Amethhst said. "I want an older boy so he could protect the younger girl like what Demarcus had done to me, and what you had done to Jellybean. And I want a younger girl who's innocent and that I could dress up and make her look pretty all the time, even though she already would be if she had my looks and all," Amethyst flipped her hair.
"Alright, you don't need to feed your ego anymore," Jughead chuckled and Amethyst swatted his arm. "I really do want children, but I don't want to go through that whole baby-making process. I don't believe in that stuff and it just feels so...wrong"
Amethyst smirked. "I had a funny feeling you were asexual."
Jughead rose his eyebrow. "How so?"
"We live together, and I have never, not once, walked in on you jacking off to a photo of some chick from school or someone fake-ass celebrity. I know that every male our age does it, I'm not stupid. But I realised you never did," Amethyst said.
Jughead was literally a tomato in that moment. "Believe me, I tried. But none of it felt right and I just...."
"You couldn't get it up," Amethyst smirked.
"Yes, Amethyst, I couldn't get my dick to spring up," Jughead rolled his eyes.
"Hey, I'm just saying," Amie chuckled and lied back down on his chest.
The two continued to watch the last ten minutes of the film, the bowl of popcorn completely abandoned because they were all cold now, and their bottles of coke lying on the floor. When the movie ended, Jughead rubbed his eyes.
"What movie do you want to watch next?" He asked Amethyst, but with no reply. "Amie?"
He looked down at her and saw her fast asleep. Jughead smiled to himself before carefully getting Amethyst's head off of his chest and laying it on the pillow. He walked towards the projector and put in another movie for him to watch. Jughead was going to stay up all night and use his last hours at the drive-in watching the movies he loved with the girl he loved - even if she was currently asleep.
