12. Stay
Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
And it takes me all the way
I want you to stay...

It's been a week since the discovery of Jason Blossom's body. But his death is not the first nor would it be the last casualty that the town of Riverdale would suffer. The Twilight Drive-In, where I work, my home away from home, a piece of town history, is closing for good just when we needed a place to escape the most. With Sheriff Keller knocking on every door and neighbour suspecting neighbour, Riverdale, every day that passes, is becoming more like Salem during the witch trials.
"The drive-in closing, it's just one more nail in the coffin that is Riverdale," Jughead said. Amethyst sat beside him with her arms crossed, completely disregarding her chocolate shake which was a first.
"Riverdale's a shit show. It's the American Dream we're talking about," Amethyst said.
"Exactly, and as the godfather of indie cinema, Quentin Tarantino, likes to say--"
"Please, god, no more Quentin Tarantino references," Kevin begged.
"What?" Jughead said. "I'm pissed. And not just about losing my job. The Twilight Drive-In should mean something to us. People should be trying to save it!"
"In this age of Netflix and VOD, do people really want to watch a movie in a car?" Veronica asked. "I mean, who even goes there?"
"People who want to buy crack," Kevin said.
"And cinephiles and car enthusiasts," Jughead said.
"And couples who want a place to make out in the back of the car in peace," Amethyst said.
"Right, Bets?" Jughead asked Betty who was sitting beside Amethyst and being oddly quiet.
She looked up at the group and nodded. "Totally."
"Anyway, its closing because the town owns it but didn't invest in it," Jughead said. "So when an anonymous buyer made Mayor McCoy an offer she couldn't refuse--"
"Anonymous buyer?" Veronica rhetorically asked. "What do they have to hide? No one cares."
"I do," Jughead and Amethyst said, then corrected it to, "We do."
"You guys should totally come to closing night though," Amethyst said.
"I'm thinking American Graffiti, or is that too obvious?" Jughead asked.
"I vote for anything starring Audrey Hepburn. Or Cate Blanchett," Veronica said.
"Anything with Channing Tatum please," Betty said.
"Or The Talented Mr Ripley," Kevin said. "Aimz, your choices?"
"I was thinking Rebel Without a Cause," Amie said. Jughead turned and sent Amethyst an affectionate smile, nodding his head. She knew it was one of the many he favoured, and after spending so many nights snuggled up in a blanket with the beanie clad boy, Amie grew quite fond of it too.
Hermione walked up to their table and dropped off their orders. "Here you go, kids," she said as she placed the food in front of them.
"Thanks, Granger," Amethyst said and she chuckled.
"Thanks, mom," Veronica said and Hermione walked off.
There was a bang from one of the tables and Amethyst turned her head to see Cheryl holding her money away from Hermione.
"Be sure to put all that cash in the register. You are a Lodge, after all," Cheryl said as Veronica stood up. "And Lodges are known to have sticky fingers."
"Cheryl," Veronica warned.
"Honey, I got this," Hermione stopped her. "Cheryl, I went to school with your mother. She didn't know the difference between having money and class either."
Veronica grinned at Cheryl before sitting back down at their table.
"I can see where you get your sass from," Amethyst commented.
Veronica shrugged. "It runs in the family."
The bell on the door rung. "Now, that's an odd combo of people," Kevin said.
The whole group turned around to find Archie, Ms Grundy and Fred Andrews walking in. Amethyst snorted and shared a look with Jughead.
"I'll be right back," Betty said and got out of her seat.
"Betty, no. Don't!" Jughead warned but she already left.
"Wait, what's happening?" Kevin asked.
"Something tells me you'll find it soon enough," Amethyst said.
The group watched as Betty and Archie walked outside of the diner and then they all looked through the window at them. Amethyst leant over Jughead and pressed her ear against the window to see if she could hear. Betty suddenly crossed her arms and Archie looked anywhere but her.
"What's happening out there?" Veronica asked. "Do we know? Is it about me?"
"I have a strong inkling," Jughead said.
"Just let it go. Let them deal with whatever drama is currently in their lives at the moment," Amethyst said.
"Believe it or not, I am a part of their lives now. So you do you, girl. I'll be back," Veronica said and stood up and left.
"What was it like before she got here?" Kevin asked. Amethyst shrugged, not really remembering either. "I honestly cannot remember."
Amethyst sat back in her seat when she realised she couldn't hear. She took a sip of her shake. "On a scale of one to ten, how much shit do you think Archie will be in?" Amethyst asked Jughead.
"Why will Archie be in shit?" Kevin asked, but was ignored.
"A solid ten," Jughead said.
Kevin frowned. "I've never felt so left out in my life."

The next morning, Jughead and Amethyst walked around the school, handing out flyers to their peers so that they would go to the closing night at the drive in. Archie was pissed due to Betty and Veronica finding out that he had been sleeping around with Ms Grundy.
"How hard would it have been to give me a little heads-up?" Archie asked.
"Look, I am, by nature, a conscientious objector. Not saying anything to either you or Betty was the most moral, apathetic choice I could make," Jughead said as he handed out flyers.
"And it's not our problem you've gotten yourself into that mess in the first place," Amethyst said.
"Guys," Archie stood in front of the two. "She's not gonna write about me and Grundy in the paper, is she? Like she did with Chuck?"
"That's a completely different situation," Amethyst said. "And do you honestly think Betty would do that to you?"
"Think about what you're asking," Jughead said. "If there was even an iota of a chance that something could hurt you in any way, Betty wouldn't do it." Archie nodded.
"Probably," Amie said.
"Oh, my god!"
"I'm kidding, Jesus Christ," Amethyst laughed.
"But she has a point," Jughead said, then lowered his voice to a whisper. "What do you see happening with Grundy, long term? What do you want?"
"I want to be with her. I don't know how, but I wanna hang on to what we have for as long as possible," Archie said.
Amethyst stuck a flyer to the wall and sighed.
"Yup, I feel that. I've been trying to hold on to something a lot older than me too," Jughead said as he looked at the flyer.
"Just....if Betty's gonna do anything crazy, can you please let me know so I can do something to stop it?" Archie asked.
Amethyst rolled her eyes. "Of course, Gingerbread man. Anything for you."
