Chapter 1
(A few years later)
Leon's P.O.V.
I woke up from multiple knocks at my door. I realized I wasn't in bed but in a book. "And that's the last time I read about Tio Bruno at midnight," I said. I put my book away and opened my door. "Hola Prima," I said. "Buenos Diaz Leon. It's almost time for breakfast so you really need to.....oh you're already dressed. Reading again?" Mirabel said. "Don't judge my habits. Casita," I said. Casita moved Mirabel away from my door. I stepped out of my room and looked up at Dolores and Camilo's doors. Up for everyone to see while mine was down in the corner in a hall where no one could see it. I honestly didn't care because my Gift couldn't do anything that could really help anyone. "Dream Projection doesn't do much for other people," I said to myself. I looked up at the candle and how it burned. I heard a voice singing and looked around. No one was there. "Probably just hearing things," I said. I walked around Casita a bit before hearing the voice again. I didn't know what to think at that point. I thought about the story my mother told me as a kid. "No probably something else," I said. I heard Abuela call for breakfast. I walked to the dining room.
I got to the dining room and sat down next to Camilo as always. I rolled my eyes. "Did Mirabel make the Arepas?" Abuela asked. Mirabel looked at Abuela with a 'how can you tell' look. "How can I tell? It's because they're breaking apart. Dolores can you pass me an Arepa that Mirabel did not make?" Abuela said. Dolores was distracted by listening to something. Dolores gasped. "Dolores mija for someone who has super-hearing you never seem to hear me talking to you," Abuela said. "I'm so sorry. I don't think i'm a morning person anymore," Dolores said. Dolores than said something under her breath. (A/N: Go check out Nicque Marina's 'Dolores listening to Bruno's rat novelas every morning part 5' for the actual thing). I had gotten used to Dolores acting crazy. We all ate our food with occasional banter. I stayed silent as I ate. Someone must have said something that made my mother mad because a storm cloud was forming over her head. "Mami. Clear skies. Clear skies," I said. "Clear skies. Clear skies. Clear skies," Mami said to calm her down. The cloud disappeared. "Remember everyone. Today will be a very busy day for us. La familia Madrigal," Abuela said. "La familia Madrigal," We said in unison. We all finished our food and went down to the town to start our tasks.
About 10 people were in line for a therapy session that day. I sighed as I began my work. During my work I kept hearing that voice. I tried to focus on my work but the voice kept interrupting me. I tried to ignore it but I could still hear it. 'If I hear that voice again i'm gonna lose it' I thought to myself. I heard the voice again. "That will be all for today," I said. I walked back up to Casita and went to my room. I covered my ears with my pillow. I heard the voice loud and clear. I groaned into my bed.
