Her Friends
Sophia, Brad, Angelica, Daniel, and their boss, David, were all pretty good friends. Both in and out of work. Sophia and Brad had their talks in the mornings after long and short weekends about his "dates". Most of them met him, others flaked last minute because his sister's friends were all rude.
Angelica was the studious one, just working, not really talking. But if you got her talking about Greek or Roman mythology, she'd talk about it for a good hour before she'd realized she needed to get back to work.
Daniel was the partier or the fun one at the library. He would put jokes on sticky notes and stick them to his coworkers' computer screens while they were gone. He was a fun guy, but he was also serious when the situation called him to be a no-nonsense guy.
Their boss, David, was on the older side. He was a "boomer" as the young people would call him. The others were mostly millennials or Gen - X. He was mostly quiet, but if someone had a birthday or anniversary of any kind, he'd bring in cake, soda, and even candy from time to time to help brighten the workplace up.
Sophia had started working at the library just 4 years before. She had lived in Sioux Falls her whole life. She'd gone to college to be a librarian after graduating from Lincoln High. When she had chosen the main library, she was so excited, and here she was, 4 years later with people who could actually relate to her.
The day after Sophia had met the new security guard, Brad and Daniel would make jokes about her avoiding him, cause he's "so" hot. Yeah, he looked pretty good for a guy in his mid-30s, but he wasn't her type.
Sophia would rather date men like Harold, from the Oak View Library. He was her age and he was very kind and sweet. He was Christian just like she was, and attended Central Church. But Brad and Daniel could see, that Allen was someone she would date.
"Brad, he is not my type.. would you stop, please?"
"Oh come on! He is so your type! Look at him!"
He grabbed her shoulders from behind and made her look at the security guard in question.
"He's fit, he's muscley, he's got... a five o'clock shadow?"
Sophia just giggled at his last statement.
"That's the best you could come up with in 5 seconds? Come on Brad, you've done a list of 10 things in a sentence without a break."
Of course, none of them could see that Allen had heard all of that from where he stood. He softly smiled. Was he really her type? The only thing he didn't know about was whether she believed in God. He had been an Athiest since he was 17, his boss, David. Had invited him to Cornerstone Church a few times since he started. He wasn't sure but went anyway. That brought back his thinking that, maybe he did want to believe again.
Sophia had looked over at Allen as she had caught him staring at her. She smiled softly and waved at him. He felt his chest warm with something that he hadn't felt in a long time. He smiled and waved back, which made Sophia blush softly and turn back to her coworkers. Was she starting to have a crush on him? Was he starting to have a crush on her?
