Chapter Fifteen--Under My Skin
Hi All! Woo, an update on the day I said I'd update? It isn't as long as my usual, but I couldn't keep you all waiting any longer. For those of you who don't know, I did a video back in November celebrating Wattpad's 10th anniversary. I ended up getting to present it to staff and party goers at Wattpad's head office too. Anyway, while I was there I took a little extra footage for fans to get a sneak peek at the inside of the office. (Too cool.)
I've posted the WATTPAD OFFICE SNEAK PEEK VIDEO (ABOVE) if you'd like to check it out. If you want to check out the original b-day the link is below. Some of you may have already seen it. :)

Hope you like the latest chapter update!
I jerked my gaze from the tiny mouse-like creature eating away at a corpse. You're not going to argue with me?
I felt Jaxon light a flame over his hand and flip it over his knuckles like someone might flip a coin. I don't see the point, do you?
No, I guess not, I answered.
My eyes watered and I held my breath. When my lungs couldn't be held back any longer, I gasped for air, and the fumes overtook me, forcing me to cough. I dabbed a corner of the wrap against my eyes trying to prevent them from dripping down my face.
Yeah, the fumes are terrible down there. Aren't they? On a side note that wrap is smokin' on you.
I groaned at the compliment. It's just a coat.
I might have to disagree with you beautiful. Traditional Fire Circle dress code is so much more than that. But you won't see me arguing against you wearing it.
I bet he wouldn't.
The flame he ran over his fingers circled his wrist, then glided over his shoulders to his other hand. The warmth of Jaxon's flame trickled through our connection like he was standing next to me dusting his hands over my bare skin. I tried to ignore my body's response to his touch and focused on not tripping over the gifts visitors had left their loved ones.
Jaxon wrapped the flame around his arm, then guided over his chest and down to his fingertips. This time, I quivered when the fiery warmth licked his chest. I bit my lip and tried not to show the effect he was having on me.
Jaxon. Do you mind?
Mind what? he said like he entirely knew what I was talking about.
Robin bumped into me, and I probably would have lost the flame I was holding if Jaxon hadn't cupped my hand.
Careful. That fire is—hot.
If you say so, I said trying not to play into his apparent reference to himself and what he was doing to me.
I know so. Sweetness, we're not even in the same galaxy, and I can feel the connection between us. You can deny it, but I know you feel it too.
Robin peered down the narrow corridor. "Okay, it's that way. At the end of the hallway, take the staircase, but stop at the top where the wooden door is."
I commanded the flame in my hand to rise higher so I could see which way the stairs were. I have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh—I think you do. Besides, my ring around your ankle already confirms that.
I'm just lucky I have an ankle after that burnt hand print you left on me. I tucked my arm across my chest to help support my other arm.
Wren— He went silent for a moment.
I could tell he was searching for the right words. The corridor in front of me split into a hallway going one direction and a stone staircase going another. The one person path up the stairs looked less than safe. Water dripped down them, and the three-story hike up the lacked the security of a railing to prevent someone from falling to their death.
"I guess I don't have to tell you to mind your step," Robin said from behind me.
Jax took a deep breath. I've loved you from the first time I met you. Seeing Kellan kiss you nearly killed me. But seeing you kiss him back? His voice cracked like something inside him finally broke. I'm not trying to make excuses and if I have to spend the rest of my life trying to make it up to you, I will. When you disappeared with him, I never felt more alone or hurt or...
Betrayed? I was only now registering how I might have made him feel. I guess if I were in his shoes I would have been pretty angry at me too.
Yeah. I heard Jaxon lick his lips and let out a breath. But what I realize now is that I should have told you how I felt from the beginning. I should've told you about everything, my dad, Acklemar, my stupid title, your mom...
What I realized as he spoke, I never gave him the chance to explain anything either, I just reacted. I suppose I could have asked you. Maybe you're not entirely the only guilty party.
Jaxon choked out a short laugh. You think?
Jax—I never meant to hurt you.
Or I, you. But there you have it—we have. So all I can say is sorry for hurting you, for being too stupid to understand what love is, and for being too dumb to know you could handle the truth. But in my defense, it wasn't like I had the best role model growing up.
I wiped my eyes on the wrap, finished climbing the last couple stairs and waited for the others. I'm sorry too...
Okay, I may be still learning about relationships, but I'm pretty sure we'll need to finish this conversation later, especially, if Robin is about to blow your asses sky high.
Jaxon moved my hand forward and yanked Robin's arm from the door handle.
"Wren. What are you doing?"
Can you see the glow around the hinges?
I looked up at the top hinge. Yeah... a hint of blue?
Only a person of the royal bloodline can open it. My father had all the doors spelled after Robin's sister went missing from the Keep's dungeon.
Great. Now, how are we supposed to get in?
Jaxon's warmth radiated through me, and he let out a laugh. You already have my blood in you. The ring isn't just a promise, but a mixing of bloodlines. Just touch the ring to one of the hinges and the others will deactivate.
"Just hang on a minute, or a turn or whatever someone calls time here. The door is spelled."
Rygar gave me a look like he knew there was more going on than I was saying.
I sat on the first stair and pulled up my pant leg and pushed down my sox. All that was there was creamy colored flesh—no ring. Oh geez, I totally forgot about Elena's makeup job.
Something tells me I don't want to know. Do I? Jaxon asked when he saw my ankle.
Let's just add this to the conversation we'll have and just save my mom. Okay?
I pulled the sox back up and gave the sides of my ankle a good rub. When I pushed down the make-up covered sox, and this time Jaxon's fiery ring was there.
I got to my feet, walked over to the door and tapped Jaxon's ring to the hinge. The door made a loud clank, and the hinges stopped glowing.
The three of them stood there staring at me like I'd just walked on water or something.
Nebula stepped forward, tilted her head and crossed her arms. "There isn't just four of us breaking into the Keep. Right, Jaxon?"
