The First and Final chapter because I'm making more of this T_T
"Caoilinn! Behind you!" I heard Angelica yell, her curved sword swinging as she fought against the raiders that had decided to rudely stop by our camp, without an invitation, mind you.
I swiftly swung myself around and narrowly blocked the sword that came straight towards my head. I quickly ducked down, a move that made my leg hurt, and was able to get a smooth, clean cut across my attacker's abdomen, that appeared to be just deep enough to hit the organs. He fell to the ground with a muffled thud as I turned to take on my next opponent, only to find that Angelica had taken care of the rest of them.
The blood from the raiders had started to stain her light tan shirt and bright orange hair. There was a tear in her shirt, just below the shoulder, that revealed a gash that looked to be from earlier in the battle.
The blood from my two or three victims were covering the front of my lavender dress and my pale skin. I could also feel the blood starting to clump up in my hair and weigh it down.
'I'm glad I have dark hair, so the blood doesn't show up as easily, but I still wish it was darker though,' I thought as I looked across our camp, which was now covered in the blood and corpses of all the raiders that had decided to take us on.
"Should we move the camp or do you want to stay here?" I asked, looking at Angelica, who was already starting to clean her sword, and I could tell she was struggling getting the dried up blood clumps off of it.
"We'll have to move camp, but, sadly, we are unable to bring our tents with us, it would be suspicious to show up to a town, that has been peaceful and against war for centuries, with blood stained tents. They will ask about our clothes, though, and I'm able to say that my shoulder got cut in a raid outside of the town. You, on the other hand, will have to come up with your own reason," She said, in her British accent, not looking up from cleaning.
At that I finally looked to see what was causing the pain that had been starting to bother me during the fight. I looked down towards my feet, moving my dress in the process to see better, which caused it to brush up against the wound. I winced in pain, and let out a quiet hiss, and adjusted my skirt to avoid the . It was between my knee and my ankle, and I could feel the pain pulsing through the veins in that area, and the more I examined it, the worse it felt. It appeared to be around 2 centimeters deep, and was bleeding profusely, which didn't seem good.
"I got a reason," I said, limping over towards my stuff. Angelica nodded, and started to get the horses ready. She always seemed five or ten steps ahead of everyone, which is a trait to have as a leader, but this was my quest to unite all the kingdoms.
No one is usually faster than the royal messenger, and I was the royal messenger! I'm supposed to plan out my routes to avoid the areas of high conflict and deliver the letters to the rulers of the nations, which came in handy every now and then.
I started packing up the items that were, either able for me to clean easily once we got to the capital of Loscoque, Bright Pine, or wasn't covered in blood, into my bag. I tied it to some ropes that were hanging off of the side of the horse's saddle.
We ended up moving about 20 meters North-East of our original campsite, which was closer to the city, at the least.
"I'll keep night-watch, you should get some rest. I can always get sleep tomorrow night, when it's your turn, Caoilinn. Okay?" She asked, as I laid a blanket on the ground, it was uncomfortable, but I managed to pass out as soon as I laid my head down on a bag full of spare clothes I was using as a pillow that night.
Fighting, that's all I heard. The yelling was so loud, and so close, that it felt like my ears were going to start bleeding at any second. I could feel heat, like I was in the middle of a fire. I tried to open my eyes but to no avail.
Mind started to drift, and I suddenly had the feeling that I was flying. The air felt thin, the wind blowing my now short hair back, it was cold, and I could feel the moisture in the air. I could hear voices but they were talking in a language I couldn't understand, but sounded a lot like the Gaelic we spoke at home in Eflary.
The sudden feeling of falling at a high velocity, jolted me out of the dreamscape.
"Are you okay, Caoilinn? You were tossing and turning like crazy. You do know that's not good on your wound, right?" Angelica said, as I slowly opened my eyes to see her watching me. I could tell she was concerned by the look on her face, so I told her something that I knew she wanted to hear,
"Yeah, I know. I'll just go back to sleep again. Sorry."
I saw her nod and turn back to the fire before I closed my eyes again and drifted off into a dreamless sleep. The last thing I thought about that night was,
'Who were those people and what language were they speaking?'
Little did I know I would soon meet the girl, that I was in the dream, the next day in Bright Pine, and she would join us in the quest.
The End
So for those wondering, this was for a class, I didn't change anything, so this is exactly what I turned in. The class is Creative Writing, and we were supposed to use dialogue in the story, so that's how this side story was born!
Yes. You saw that correctly SIDE STORY. I have a bigger story for the class planned, especially since we supposed to try to get at least two books or stories published. So if anyone has a reliable, and trustworthy, publishing company that accepts Highschool authors, please tell me in the comments, and I know that information will be useful for others as well, so please don't PM me.
Thank you!
