Chapter 3: Settling In
Moving Day
Xin was known as a proud and bashful type of man, arrogant and brave was also in that fact. Today however he felt himself being more nervous than he had ever been before. That mainly had to do with the fact that he and Bonny were now newly wed's, and with that they decided to live together. The only problem was the fact that they had recently been promoted to Knight's of the Order and of the Republic, so it was fortunate that Bonny was given the role of being a senate guard and Xinthiss would be tasked around Coruscant.
While he was confident in living with the person he loved, the problem was the two of them getting caught. They both agreed in the end however that living together was a better solution than not, it was also less costly too. Both hadn't need to worry about the possibilities of getting caught because they made sure to leave no track's behind them, they had Kellan to thank as well.
So with everything covered, the two officially started moving in with one another. The biggest problem was finding an apartment suited for them both, but after days of searching they agreed on one such apartment that was more or less a house built on top of a tower. It suited them fine, but while Xin was mostly displeased by the size of their considered new home he was finally pushed away by Bonny who finalized the idea. He knew better than to argue with her, Kellan had known her fiery wrath upon angering her and that was a sight neither men wanted to see again.
The building wasn't bad itself, the tower was perfect for them both as it sat situated near the Senate Plaza. This in mind it made it much easier for Bonny to arrive there and back to home in reasonable amounts of time, Xin however was just happy to have somewhere for them both to live. This was mostly because unlike his wife, Xinthiss would be traveling around the galaxy in the name of the Order and protecting the Republic. Something he longed for, Adventure.
Though one thing at a time he supposed, they first had to move into their new home. Thankfully Bonny had taken care of getting the thing's that they needed from the catalog and market's of Coruscant's upper city. When the item's arrived the two quickly got to work in preparing their new home for themselves, but after finding themselves falling behind they had to call in help. That help was always was Kellan, who gracefully and kindly helped the two with preparing their new home.
After several hours from beginning they had been somewhat finished with their new home. The main entrance was furnished with plant's, pictures, and tables. In the hall leading from the Entrance there was a pair of stairs leading up to the upstairs portion of the apartment, the two figured that if anything the downstairs area would be used for guests or as their utility. One bedroom sat upstairs, another one was situated to the left of it, with a library taking up the room in the middle.
The trio however sat in the main living room of the apartment which was ironically also upstairs, along with a route to an outside balcony.
"So Kel, I heard you finally got an assignment earlier today from the order, what was it again?" Xin asked casually as he leaned back in the sofa they had placed only a few moment's before. Bonny sat next to him snuggling up next to him with her head placed on his shoulder, seemingly tired from their work today.
"Bothawui I'm being sent to assist Master Beth Allusis, it seems the Republic does not have enough forces there so I'm being sent to help them." Kellan said with pride and conviction, he seemed content on going to fight what was clearly a losing battle. The Republic had thwarted the Sith invasion of Bothawui once before, but because of their ignorance the Republic left only a small garrison behind to defend the planet.
"You do realize you could be assigned into a death wish, right?" Xin stated once and in a way meant that he was telling the truth, he had been keeping track of the holonet's reports and Bothawui was still a high target in the Empire's eyes.
"I understand the risks, Xin. Yet you can't stop me from going, I am aware of how little the forces there are on the planet that however will not stop me from being as reliable as I can be." Kellan spoke brashly and hopeful, but Xinthiss caught that hesitant look in his eyes a look he knew all too well.
"You're afraid the Republic won't send more aren't you Kel?" Xin spoke softly as to not offend or anger Kellan in anyway, but he knew his answer when his best friend remained silent. Their personal ideal's were far different than that from the Order's, but no one could complain that neither of the three were patriot's of the Republic and the Jedi at this point in time, especially Kellan.
"Kel." Bonny said softly as she moved her head slightly. She seemed more relaxed than before and more rested as she stared at the young man before her, there her friend and colleague was sitting waiting for her inevitable words of probably telling him not to go. Kellan and Xinthiss both were wrong.
"Just make sure you come back to us, it would destroy us both if you don't come back alive. Also make sure to kick some Sith ass for me while you're there okay?" Bonny smiled at Kel, who in return could only look at the woman with a puzzled look. He turned to Xin, but when he looked at his best friend he noticed the man was smiling at him.
"Better do what the lady says Kel." Xin laughed a moment after, followed by Kellan and Bonny both. It seemed it was final that Kellan had both of their support to go to Bothawui, besides it wasn't like they couldn't stop him regardless.
"So Bonny and Xin what are you two going to be assigned to while I'm gone?" Kellan asked as he finally leaned back in his chair, relived that the tension was cut instantly.
"Well I'm going to be stationed permanently here on Coruscant to become a Jedi Guard for the Senate, I'm already supposed to be guarding one Senator named Maria Glina tomorrow. Although I've already met another young and aspiring Senator, she seemed nice for just the small amount of time we spoke. Her last name was Isis I believe." Bonny seemed excited by the time she finished speaking, but Kellan and Xinthiss were both curious about this new Senator she met.
"Isis? Weird name, but if you think she's worth becoming friends with I think the planet and Senate will need to watch out for you both." Xinthiss joked, but soon found himself being pushed by Bonny and playfully punched. Kellan couldn't help but laugh at Xin who desperately tried to stop his wife, eventually she did relent and sat back down across from him.
"Xin, what is you're assignment for tomorrow?" Kellan asked as his friend casually sat back down from winning the play fight.
"I'm going to be assigned to the Kalee Bastion, it's a new Thranta-Class corvette. She's supposedly leaving her mooring's tomorrow, my assignment is to help the corvette and its crew with responding to a few puzzling mysteries, namely what's been happening to some Republic and Imperial ship's near the Rishi System." Xinthiss seemed a little less thrilled with his assignment, but it did mean he was being sent with his old master once again so it was less boring than he thought it would be. Azmo would definitely be happy to see his Padawan once again, and Xinthiss could say the same thing to his old master.
"It seem's we'll all be busy then, but with our assignment's in order and we now know what we're doing, I think the three of us are prepared for this." Kellan reasoned with the two before him, while he got a smirk from Xinthiss all he got from Bonny was a slight smile.
"Yeah, and let's just hope none of us die." Xin stated openly, but the other two couldn't help to silently agree.
Tomorrow would be a busy day for all of them.
******
Morning had arrived faster than they expected. Kellan had left the night before to return to Tython to speak with his former master one last time before leaving on his assignment. The two Skylighter's however had a somewhat tough time getting ready, after being exhausted from the day before the two had found themselves stumbling from their bed to get ready. Both took turns in showering, brushing their teeth, and then dressing themselves for the day. They decided to skip the breakfast since they both would late.
Bonny was thankfully close to the Senate building so getting there wouldn't be challenging for her, but for Xin he had to arrive at the spaceport as soon as he could. While the Kalee Bastion might have been built in the Kuat Drive Yard's, she was being refit and re-staffed for her maiden voyage. The two raced to the elevator of their apartment and when they entered they gave a brief and passionate kiss, right before the elevator door opened and both of them raced to their assignments.
Xinthiss had managed to arrive at the star port in under ten minutes. He was tired from the run and seemed breathless as he walked in, he took a much needed breath and pushed on afterword's. Xin was soon told to arrive at Hangar 3B, with his order's in place the young Jedi quickly sprint walked to the hangar and took the lift which would take him to his waiting shuttle.
When he did arrive in the hangar, he was met with the signs of activity he had come used to when preparing for travel. Mechanic's, Engineer's, pilots, and dock workers were surrounding him doing their daily jobs of maintaining the spaceport's integrity. The shuttle he was scheduled to be taking was prepped and ready, and there awaiting for him was the pilot and Azmo, both of which seemed to be in a deep conversation.
"Ah, Xin! It's nice to see you again my friend." Azmo called out to Xinthiss when he noticed the young man. The pilot almost on queue descended back into the shuttle, most likely preparing it for launch.
"Hello Master Azmo, It's nice to see you again too." Xinthiss approached his former master and stood before the older Jedi. The two seemed to be a marvel for some of the dock worker's, but when they were discovered to not be working they quickly returned to their duties.
"It was nice to know that you were being assigned to this mission with me, I had asked old Strayen if he wanted to tag along but that man is too high and mighty in his books to care." Azmo joked as he watched his younger pupil listen intently. He was aware of how anxious his former and probably last Padawan was, something he came to note when he was assigned to train him.
"Yes, I assume this will be our shuttle to the ship?" Xin stated as he looked past Azmo to the now ready ship. Seeing the excitement and anxiousness in his younger pupil, Azmo smiled and turned motioning Xinthiss to follow him.
"Indeed, this shuttle will take us to the ship's drydock. I need not remind you what our mission entails, but only to remind you that this will not be a peace mission. The Kalee Bastion is being sent on a investigation mission which means that Imperial ship's are the culprit's behind the missing ships." Azmo casually stated as both of the men walked into the shuttle, it was a decently sized ship yet was definitely a military use type of ship. There was something that was biting at Xinthiss to know however.
"This is the ship's maiden voyage if I'm correct, so why send it to possibly a dangerous mission?" Xin questioned his former master, but as soon as he sat down and the door closed behind them he felt the shuttle take off ,and leave the hangar.
"They want to test the ship and it's crew, after all the Kalee Bastion is soon to be one of the newest nine Thranta corvettes to be added to the fleets, so it's most likely this mission is to test how well there newest ship's can perform." Azmo answered truthfully he had no reason to lie to Xinthiss, a trait that his younger companion had come to respect in the older man. Azmo was all business and rarely lied, only if he had too or if he saw it to be reasonable.
The answer however seemed to be acceptable for the younger man who then sat back in his seat, and relaxed from that point further. The two seemed to be sitting in that room of the shuttle for a long time before the pilot told them they were arriving, and true enough it was. There awaiting for the shuttle was a Thranta class corvette painted a bright white, and orange with the lettering Kalee Bastion plastered on the side. It was strange to see a ship like this docked in it's very own port on Coruscant, but the sheer beauty and magnificence this one ship held was somewhat defining.
To Xinthiss it seemed liked this ship was built for being an ambassador ship, or at least an escort ship for a Senator. The very scale and power this corvette held even in this stage was somewhat gratifying for the young Jedi, especially when the shuttle came close to the corvette revealing just how much smaller the vessel was compared to the corvette.
When the two boarded the corvette they were met by a group of soldiers who were being lead by a Duro male named Tejat Thanas, clearly the commander for this group. He was wearing a bright white uniform, configured with a red coloring to compliment the republic's style of clothing.
"Master Jedi, Tejat Thanas at you're service. Captain Varlo Daival is awaiting for you both, we shall take you to him." The Commander motioned the two Jedi to follow him, and with a swift movement and pace in his step the Duro was already walking away before the two could react. Azmo and Xinthiss looked at one another before sprint walking to catch up to the group, it seemed the commander did not hold much respect for the Jedi as many other's did.
The Duro was efficient however, taking them on a short but brief tour of the Corvette, he soon lead the two Jedi to the bridge of the Corvette. The Bridge reminded Xinthiss of the old day's of the Republic when the Hammerhead Cruiser's were the main bulk force of their fleet's, and their command centers were much more cramped and elegant. Awaiting them at the front of the view station was a human man, wearing a tunic made of Uxibeast fur and silked in pure orange, and red. Unlike most high ranking officer's this man wore a cap matching the same amount of brass his uniform did, along with his medals.
Then he turned and the two Jedi were anxious to meet their new captain and partner for the next week or so.
"Master Jedi's, Captain Varlo Daival I'll be in command of the Kalee Bastion from this point forward it is an honor however that the Jedi Council deemed this mission worthy enough for them to send us Jedi Support, for that you have my thanks." Azmo seemed pleased by the greeting of the Captain, this man seemed much more appealing and respectable than the Duro commander the two had met earlier. Xinthiss just decided to stay back and let the two do the talking, but after a few minutes of the crew preparing the ship it was finally time for them to leave.
As the ship was detached from her mooring's and hovered above her once strong steel cage, the ship slowly moved forward making it's way out of the dock. The two Jedi however witnessed the launch from outside the various windows they passed, considering they decided to go to their bunks to rest for the duration of the trip. By the time they arrived in their separate room's the ship had already cleared the atmosphere, and when Xinthiss looked out the window he watched as star's passed by him at an incredible rate. The ship had jumped to hyperspace, and he was ready for his mission.
He could only hope the mission would go well from this point forward.
