Chapter 1: Somewhat Humble Beginnings

Many Year's ago.

Xin looked around at his surrounding's after he exited the shuttle that brought him to Tython. So this was Tython? He was a little impressed by the amount of life here, and the amount of structures. Though of course while sure this place was pretty he was ready to get a move on which, was obvious when he pushed another student out of the way. This student was blocking both his path, and the other's who joined them since he just stood there at the door looking around.

"Move it already!" he demanded, though his push was more of a shove to the side rather than pushing him down. The boy in question he had heard on their way to Tython was Barr, at least his last name. Though the other's whispered about Xinthiss more than they did the other boy, an acceptable thing he thought to himself.

"Oh! Sorry!" He heard the boy call from behind him this of course was after he had already moved past him and moved on. The boy's apology didn't stop him though as he ignored his apology and moved on to the taxi protocol droid.

Xinthiss continued on and checked his datapad, he was to report to a Jedi Master known as Azmo to start his training which he was eager too. He reviewed the information on the Jedi in question and wasn't very surprised that he was formerly involved in the current conflict known as the Great Galactic War. From the report it said he was injured in battle and was on leave, it seemed they put him with a combat based trainer. Lucky him, he thought.

When he turned to look at the other three he arrived with, he noticed that two of them were staring at him. Their expression's were out of fear, and a little bit of weariness...how tiresome.

It seemed they continued to avoid him even now because of his expression, that was nothing new to Xin. For as long as he knew a lot of people had avoided him because of his attitude alone, it was a surprise he was even being considered to be trained as a Jedi.

Xinthiss Skylighter wasn't what you could consider being a very proud person when it came down to thing's. Growing up in his life, thing's weren't easy before he was brought here to Tython. That was mostly because of him being born and growing up on Coreilla, even though it was considered a beautiful world that didn't mean it wasn't easy living on. Coreilla was known as many thing's but was full of Gang's, Violence, and corruption in around the major cities of the planet. It certainly didn't help that most of these tended to pray on it's shipyard there, though not as big as the Kuat Shipyard's, the Coreilla Shipyard was considered the third best in the galaxy. This was especially so due to the number of smuggler ship's, and blockade runner's they produced. It was also the reason why it was so favorited among, smuggler's and pirates alike.

Unfortunately for Xin however he had no luxury of growing up in the 'Finer' classes of society on Coreilla. His mother was a stay at home wife, while his father was left to work at the very same shipyard which had been filled with corruption. This corruption alone was what made it difficult, considering at times his father wasn't paid what he was supposed too and the times they had to fend off crook's who tried to rob them. In a sense becoming a Jedi was more of a relief to Xin then he thought now. Though he was grateful to be out of that way of life, he still held somewhat of a hostile attitude, he guessed that had to do with the crime growing up.

He shook off these thought's as he made his way down the ramp and across the bridge that lead to the taxi protocol droid, who seemed to be awaiting the small group's arrival.

"Taxi's are for authorized use only. Please line up in a orderly fashion and await you're turn." The droid told him and the three other's he had arrived with, all were waiting for a taxi to arrive. Though Xin continued to feel the eye's of the other two he spoke of before on him again, the last one in their group the boy he shoved earlier clearly didn't look at him nor was intimidated by him.

Xin couldn't lie to himself, he had a little bit of respect for that other boy already.

****

He finally made it to the greeting area, and was taken back by the beauty of the Jedi Temple itself. Xin had always seen building's, ocean, and beaches seeing a world like this was somewhat calming to him. Regardless after he had finished looking at the Temple, he realized the other three he had arrived with were gone. That was until he was directed away from the temple, apparently the man who would be training him was somewhere in the wild which was surprising to him since he was still on leave for sporting an injury. Never the less he went anyway and after several minutes of walking he noticed a man sitting near a waterfall, this wasn't very hard to find since there was a waterfall near the Temple to begin with.

Azmo sat calmly as it looked like it was meditating in some way, Uxibeast were lingering around yet stayed well enough away so they could eat. The man himself seemed to be a fair bit tall, he sported no beard and his hair was clearly a stock white showing his elder age. To Xin however this man seemed wise as he turned as if sensing the boy approaching, but before he even turned fully around he had given a glance at the Uxibeast before turning and approaching Xinthiss.

"Hello there young Padawan, or should I say my young Padawan?" Azmo seemed more calmly talking than what his report had said, in battle it had said he was grizzly and loud. This on the other hand was something Xin didn't expect as a man who was known for being fierce on the battlefield was calm during their encounter.

"I am, it is a pleasure to meet you." Xin spoke with a surprisingly great amount of respect for the man infront of him, this was something he felt he needed to. However Azmo did not do much other than smiling at the boy and nodding to him.

"As to you, you're the first Padawan I've had in year's actually. Apparently some student's find my teaching's a bit too rushing for their taste, I suppose that's why some prefer little old Strayen over me at times." The older Jedi laughed a little before straitening himself back up, he sighed a moment later at his surrounding's. Xin stayed quiet during the moment's Azmo spoke, clearly letting the elder man speak in respect.

"Yes even though Strayen's new Padawan seems a bit too shrew for that old man, you I can see might be a better selection than the rest." Azmo chuckled lightly at this mention, however he knew that Xinthiss did not know the man he was speaking of and it slightly amused him.

"Strayen is another Jedi here, you could say that he's a bit of stoic though he's nothing like me, I come out here and he stays in the temple so if you want to learn about Combat before anything. I'm you're Jedi Master for that." Xin was very confused at first when he heard the Jedi Master speak, though after a few moment's he smiled back and nodded.

"I'm honored then." Azmo nodded toward's Xinthiss before smiling once again. Azmo seemed more like a calm and cheerful man from the stories Xin had heard of. That was until he noticed the Uxibeast were starting to become startled.

Looking around slightly in silence, Xin found what was disturbing them. A flesh raider had been approaching them and was slowly sneaking up behind Azmo with a vibrosword.

"Azmo watch ou-" Xin was silenced as the flesh raider had suddenly been pierced by a lightsaber through the abdomen. The soft hum of the saber could be heard due to the silence, that was until Azmo moved and turned to face the flesh raider. Gripping the handle of his saber he lunged it upward, slicing the flesh raider in half.

"That my young padawan is called listening to your surroundings, and to trust in the disturbances in the force." Azmo stated as his lightsaber softly hummed off. The older Jedi seemed barely fazed by what had just happened, but was amused by the somewhat shocked look on Xinthiss.

"The wild's are in itself a battleground. These flesh raiders as they call themselves are the first of many challenges on Tython, and that of a Jedi's training." Xin was curious by this statement as he stared toward the older jedi with confusion.

"It was a test" Xin was correct even before Azmo turned and smiled to him.

"Correct, and you somewhat failed it. Though you have keen eyes that of one who is determined. Remarkable. Now if introductions are complete." Azmo gestured to a path, one that lead into a narrow gorge and was next to a large statue.

"Let us proceed to your new home"

******

The walk was something that Xin could only describe as peaceful. The Uxibeast and other animals that strewed the wilds were peacefully minding their own business as the two walked. The water from the nearby river was flowing at a soft pace, and the silence that he was met with was calming and serenely contempt.

However the silence was abruptly stopped at certain points as the sounds of blaster fire and lightsabers clashing were heard in the distance. Azmo was correct on one thing the wilds was a combat zone, and it still was a surprise he wanted to meet his new padawan here. It was either he had alot of skill as a Jedi to be that confident. Or Azmo was arrogant, which Xin doubted.

"Sounds like hell out there" Xin mumbled to himself mostly but knew that Azmo heard him. The older jedi chuckled slightly before averting his attention towards Xinthiss.

"Flesh raiders attack whenever they get the chance in the wilds. They have been hitting the listening post there for quite some time. As stupid as they are the flesh raiders would never attack the temple however." Azmo nearly sounded confident in his statement, it didn't really bring much comfortness to Xin.

The two continued their walk through the gorge, the sounds of battle had finally died down behind them. Silence had met them as they walked down the narrow path, filled with grass and trees alike. Everywhere they looked life was teeming, it was no wonder why Tython was considered home to the Jedi it was purely everything they stood for at first glance.

Azmo stopped suddenly at the base of the hill which the path stood upon. Xin wondered why they stopped until he turned and stared at the object the older jedi was gazing upon. The Temple. Even from here Xin could see Jedi young and old training, and the temple itself was a spectacle. It wasn't the temple on Coruscant of course, but none the less it made him feel as though he belonged here.

"So this is the temple?" Xin stated as the two continued their walk once again. The older Jedi nodded to his new padawans question.

"It is, and this will be where you will be staying until you're training is done. Now as much as I'd love to go to the library, I believe strayen is still settling in with his new padawan. So we'll just go to the one place I feel comfortable." Xins brow creased upward when Azmo stated that.

"And where is that?" They stopped after Xin's sudden question. After a moment of standing on the temple steps, Azmo turned and gave a brief smile before answering.

"The training rooms of course."

*****

Xin had found himself in a constant test to prove himself to Azmo as the days had turned into weeks. In the short period of time he had learned that the Jedi master was nothing like the others.

They rarely stayed at the temple, and most of the lessons that Xin learned was in the wilds or in a somewhat close proximity to the temple. He had wondered why these small lessons such as learning the code and other various starting activities had to be outside the Temple for Azmo. Yet he didn't question his new masters wishes or reasons, a thing he knew the old man respected about him.

Azmo taught him much in those weeks. Regardless of his status as a skilled warrior in battle, the Jedi Master was very humble as well. His teachings were as he referred to them as 'basic' training.

These teachings did not lead into combat just yet, as Azmo had told Xinthiss it would take them a year or so until they moved towards that road. So for the first teachings he had to sit and listen to the history of the Jedi order, and was even taught about lightsabers. How they were crafted and how the Crystal's within to function would connect with its user.

"When would I be able to build my own?" Xin asked when Azmo had finished with his lecture on lightsabers. He wearly watched the older Jedi as he sat on a stone, watching the Uxibeast and other wildlife roam around them.

"When you're training is complete as is custom for any Padawan. That or on the rare occasion that you're master or companion gives you the lightsaber, but only in dire situations. When you are ready I will take you to the ancient forge, to assemble you're very on lightsaber." Azmo smiled kindly at the young man before he allowed the bird he was holding to fly away.

Their other lessons involved what Xinthiss would be getting himself into when or if he became a Jedi Knight. Azmo made it clear that some Jedi had been lured to the dark side simply because they were not strong enough to resist it's pull. The most prominate of these was Revan, Bastilla Shan, and many others. Azmo unlike other master's however did in fact tell Xinthiss the truth of what happened to these fallen Jedi and that they were sometimes brought back to the light the prime example was Revan.

The two continued talking the rest of that day, mostly about the history of the Jedi and different lightsaber part's. The most interesting to Xinthiss however was the crystal's themselves, Azmo had astute knowledge on how most crystals operated. However the only crystal that concerned Xin at the time, was the crimson colored crystal which Azmo also seemed to have knowledge of.

"Lightsaber crystal's or better known as Kyber Crystal's are in themselves connected to the one they choose. For instance my lightsaber crystal is connected to me by the force, a soft humming blue color if you would. It represents the strength and resolve I have in the light and the power it gives me when I wield the weapon combining it. The Crimson color however is what happens to a crystal when a user makes the crystal 'bleed'. Yes you heard me correctly my young Padawan they make it bleed by pouring their rage, hate, fear and pain into the crystal via the Force until the crystal changed. When this was accomplished the user's full path to the Dark side is complete."

Xin considered this much too much for the concern of Azmo who kindly walked up and patted the Young man's shoulder. It was clear Xinthiss had something on his mind.

"Is there a way to purify such a crystal after?"

Azmo looked a little stunted at the question, as if he was pondering what to say next. Then he smiled and chuckled lightly before nodding to the Young man.

"Yes. There is a way to heal the Kyber Crystal after such an affect has happened. Though it will need to be purified by pure light side energy. The crystal that appears after is in itself one of the most unique and rare of any color crystal. A white color."

Azmo patted the his young Padawan's back before standing up from the rock they both were sitting on. He sighed before returning his gaze to Xinthiss.

"Well the day is almost over, and I must get back to that old fool Strayen. Before we conclude however I wish you to recite the Code for me as is custom for you to memorize it always." Azmo clasped his hand's forward and waited. Xin taking this as he knew as a blunt hint, stood up and faced Azmo.

"There is no emotion, there is peace.

There is no Ignorance, there is knowledge

There is no passion, there is serenity

There is no chaos, there is harmony

There is no death, there is only the force."

Azmo was impressed with how quickly Xinthiss was able to memorize the code, but none the less was proud that he was able too. The older Jedi knew that he didn't realize the meaning of the code yet, that would take time. Time which they indeed had.

"From now on I want you to recite the code every time you meditate. Someday you will learn the reason's and why this code is important. Though as you're Master I imply that as a warrior to hopefully future warrior you use this code respectfully, there is much conflict in you my Padawan I have faith however."

Xinthiss was astounded by what Azmo had stated, rather than say anything at all the hot headed man simply just nodded to the wise Jedi.

"If that is all, you are dismissed for the day."

********

After his day with learning from Azmo, Xin decided it be best to return to the Temple to rest for the night. Upon his return to the temple after crossing one of the many bridges, he was quickly reminded of the usual inquires of the Temple. Many Jedi were still training, other's were socializing, and many more were helping frequent master's around the courtyard.

That was until he became a somewhat center of attention. None of the master's had paid him any attention, nor did many Padawan's. The only ones were the ones he arrived with, he noticed what seemed like a small hint of fear or a wish not to socialize with him at all. That didn't surprise him shockingly. The first thing Azmo told him was how brutal the training would be on Tython, it was not just a battle outside the Temple itself, but within its walls as well. The competition here was fierce, extremely so the point that even making friends was frowned upon.

Xin wasn't bothered by this however and continued his walk into the Temple. He passed by the main complex which housed the large holocron statue, and the dual stairs that lead up to the Council chamber's, and Library. He moved towards where the bunk's were and was suddenly taken Avast by the amount of statues, art, and artifact's that laid out the hallway. That was until he ran into someone and landed on the floor.

He slowly rose up from his position on the floor, a pain was aching from his head as he slowly rubbed it to ease it. His eye's were shut until he finally decided to open them he was going to tear whoever it was a new one.

And then he stopped.

There before him sat a young woman, no more less than a year younger than he. This woman was what would be considered beauty to a normal human male. She had features that appealed to him and other men in both face wise and body wise. She also had emerald green eye's, and dark raven hair as black as night itself. At the moment she seemed to be in the same amount of pain as he. Until she stared back at him in embarrassment.

"O-Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to do that!" She stated as she quickly stumbled on to her feet and waved her hand's in front of her in a apologetic signing.

"Nah, it's fine I wasn't looking where I was going either. So I guess it's both our fault's." Xin slowly stood up to his feet after calming her down. When he did he noticed the height change between them, considering she was shorter than he was.

"Well regardless I'm sorry." She sighed in relief as knowing that he accepted the apology. "I think introduction's are in order, my name is Bonny. Bonny Vaile."

"Xinthiss. Xinthiss Skylighter."

"Skylighter? That's a funny and cool name at the say time."

"I'd say Vaile is a funny name too."

Bonny chuckled a little before smiling at Xinthiss. This however worried Xin, something was stirring in him that he never felt before. And he didn't know if he should be worried about that or not.

"Well umm where you heading to, Xinthiss?" Bonny asked kindly as she clasped her hand's together in front of her.

"Oh um, I was heading to the bunk's for bed. Where were you going?" Xin asked as his crossed his arm's in front of his chest.

"Reporting to my master for my final lessons for the day, have you heard of her by chance? Her name is Satele Shan?" She asked curious to know if he was in fact new here, just as she was. She was hoping for at least a friend here, but unknowingly to her at the time she was also fluttering with the same feeling's Xin had.

"She's one of the new master's right? She was Master Kao Cen Darach's Padawan until about six year's ago when we lost Korriban to the Sith." Bonny was surprised when Xinthiss stated this, he clearly knew his history but was not familiar with Satele herself.

"My master is Azmo Bertalis have you heard of him?"

"Indeed I have, he's a Jedi Guardian if I'm not mistaken and has fought in multiple battles. He's lucky to have someone like you." She smiled brightly when she said this, and the only thing Xin could think of to do in response was to return that smile.

"Well, I better get to my Master before she blows a circuit or two. It was nice meeting you, Xin and maybe we'll meet or talk again soon." She smiled again after Xinthiss nodded at her statement agreeing that they most likely would. That was until he realized something.

"Hey wait what did you call me?" He called to her, but by the time he did she was already gone. From the point of other's from the outlook of fear and weariness that they showed him, she had managed to give him a nickname and had the balls to do it. He liked that and it scared him because he did. He finally found out later what that feeling he had when they met was, and it terrified him for a moment after.

It was love, and naturally he had no idea what to do about it.
