Ch 6: the arrival

You ever just find the Ninjago language and write stuff from it?
(I spelled some stuff wrong porque soy estúpida)

Garmadon POV

I walk through the monastery towards my brother's room. Tomorrow we leave for the Dark Island and I want to find out what he is doing to prepare for the departure. I knock on his door and he calls from the other side for me to come in.  I open the door and step inside, closing the door behind me. My brother stands at his windowsill, looking out into the horizon with a folded letter in his hands. "Hello Wu." I tell him. He turns to me and smiles.

"What brings you here, brother?" He asks in return.

"We head for the island tomorrow. Anything you'd like to add to our plan of action before we do so?" He strokes his beard and thinks.

"We may have another objective when we get to the island."

I look at him, his blue eyes serious. "What do you mean another objective? Our only objective is to see what we're up against with the Overlord!" I say back to him. What other objective would there be?

Wu holds the note up for me to see it. "An old friend of ours has just contacted me, from the Dark Island." I look at him with shock. Someone we know is on the Dark Island? Who could it be? Why did they contact us?

Wu lowers the note, not taking his eyes off of mine. "Apparently, this friend has been living on the Dark Island for years, and she has secretly been training a group of people to be the defenders of the island, in hopes of one day defeating the Overlord."

"Who is she?  Why is she contacting you?"

"Do you remember Splenda Embers?"

"Wait... Splenda Embers??  The master of foreseeing destiny?" I ask in shock.  The last time we saw her was when she was just turning 20, and that was decades ago!

"Yes, and now we finally know where she's been for all these years."

"Does she know we're coming?  Surely she doesn't, I mean, how could she know?" I say to him.

"From what she's written in the letter, she has no idea where we are or what we're even doing. She addressed in the note that the day she had written it was at least a few days ago.  She said she didn't know how long it would take for the falcon to get to us, if it ever gets to us." He says, pointing to a falcon that is perched on a branch in a tree, watching them closely.  "She says in the letter that she has seen each of her student's destiny, and she's afraid that the battle against the Overlord is coming sooner than we thought.  She wants our help to try and defeat him."

"And you're considering it?" I ask him.

"Well, since they are training to fight the Overlord, perhaps in return they could team up with us and help us defeat him after we've found the green ninja and the allies."

I think for a moment.  He's right, it would be useful to have people on our team who know the island very well.

"But we don't even know these people."

"Maybe so, but starting a war with the Overlord can be catastrophic. We must defeat the Overlord if the world is to thrive.  Once we start the battle, there will be no going back, and we'll need all the help we can get."

I stand there with my eyes closed, considering our options.  "Alright," I finally say.  "So it's settled then?  We get to the island, hide the bounty, get to know our surroundings, and we go to meet these people and find out everything we need to know?" I ask him.

"Yes, that is the plan.  Remember, brother, this can be very beneficial to us.  These people were born and raised on the island, so they must know a few things about our foe."

That's another thing.  "Should I tell the others?"

"We will tell them at lunch."  I nod to him and begin to head out of the room.  Wu stops me at the door.  "Garmadon?"

I turn to him.  "I'm guessing Kai has kept his mouth shut so far?" He says as he strokes his beard, an interested look on his face.

"So far, yes."  I say back to him.

"He was going to find out about the dragonkin eventually.  They all are."

"I know," I say back to him.  "I had just hoped no one would find out.  Who knows how the people of Ninjago would react if they found out?  But, perhaps it is time they do know."

Wu continues to stroke his beard.  "Yes, perhaps it is time."  With that, I turn away and walk through the door, closing it behind me.

No one's POV

~~~meanwhile~~~
A stone warrior walks along the mountain path through the abandoned village that had been turned into a mining village for dark matter.  Most of the houses are untouched and unoccupied.  Stone warriors stand attended all over the village.  The stone warrior continues to walk up the path until he is met with a pair of very large doors that is the entrance to a gigantic fortress.  He walks through the hallways all the way to another pair of large doors.  He opens them and he is greeted with a very large room with a big throne in the center.  On the throne sits a tall, shadowy figure with golden armor.  The warrior walks in and kneels before the figure.
"Why have you disturbed me, general." He says in a bone chilling, raspy, and deep voice.
The warrior speaks in a type of language that is inhuman and unreadable, though the figure can understand him just fine.  "My lord, one of the spies from the shadow army have reported that they have discovered a village that is training some very interesting children to try and defeat you." He says.
"Children?" The figure says slowly.  "They're training children to defeat me?"
"Well, they're teenagers, but they all seem to have something called elemental powers."
"Elemental powers?  What kind of elemental powers?" He says coldly.
"The spies are trying to find out as we speak."
"Good," he says in a deep voice.
"And there is something else you should know, my lord."
He coldly stares at the warrior.  "Don't waste my time, general." He tells him.
"Two of the kids are dragonkin, sir."
The figure looks at the warrior in silence.  "What?" He says in anger.
"Two of the teenagers, who have been found to be siblings, are dragonkin."
The figure slams his fists angrily on to the arms of the throne.  "I thought I sent my assassins to kill them a long time ago.  How did they get on the island?!" He yells.  The warrior stands in silence, after all, the stone army was made with no emotion, only to obey their master.
"USELESS!" He uses some sort of dark force to grab hold of the warrior and make him explode into pieces of rock.  "Looks like they survived after all.  Looks like I'm going to have to deliver a little gift to the Garmadons."  He says mischievously under his breath.  "CLEAN THIS MESS UP IMMEDIATELY." he yells to the closest warrior near by.
A warrior rushes into the room and begins to clean up the bits and pieces of stone.  The figure leans back into the throne, his fists clenched.
Kai POV
~~~the next day~~~

Today we woke up early to get everything prepared for the departure to the Dark Island.  Yesterday, Sensei Garmadon and Master Wu dropped the bomb on us, and told us that we now have to team up with these random people we've never met before.  What?  I thought we were going to spy on the Overlord!  Master Wu says they can be beneficial because they are also training to fight him, but how beneficial can a group of random people really be?!

"Hello?  Earth to Kai?"  I'm snapped out of my thoughts by Jay.  "You good?  You've been staring off into space ever since we left."

"Oh, sorry.  Just thinking about the island."

"For an hour?"  I glare at him.  "Well, when you're ready to stop daydreaming the team and I will be in the dining room."

I watch him as he leaves the room.  This whole trip is annoying.  I think.  I eventually make my way up onto the deck and into the dining room.  Everyone is seated at the rectangular table placed in the middle.  I take my seat next to my sister and she turns to me.

"Nice if you to join us Kai." She says.

"Whatever." I reply.

"So, how long do you think it will take us to get there?" Cole asks us.

"My estimation is that we will get there tomorrow afternoon, unless we switch from flying to sailing." Zane says to us.

"How long if we sail?" Jay asks.

"Two to three days."

"But we won't switch to sailing, right?" Jay says.

"There is only a 3% chance of that happening."

Jay sighs of relief.

"Hey," I speak up.  Everyone turns to me.  "These people, who we have to meet and team up with, who do you think they are?  I mean, if there are whole populations of people on the Dark Island, who knows what else there is..."

Everyone thinks for a moment.  "I don't really know.  Maybe new species of animal." Nya says.

"Or a new species of humans." Cole adds.

"New species of human? That's just dumb." I tell him.

"You never know." He shoots back.

"Ooo! What is they have vegetables that taste like dessert!" Jay adds.  We all just look at him.

"Didn't Misako say that the people on the island speak another language?  How are we supposed to become allies with someone if they can't understand us?" Nya says.

"I'm sure we can find a way to communicate with them, after all, the lady who sent Master Wu the letter wrote it in Ninjagian, so maybe she can translate?" Jay says.

"Wow Jay," I tell him.  "You can actually say smart things?"

"Shut up Kai." He tells me.

"You may be right Jay, surprisingly." Zane tells him.

"Hey!" He yells.

"However we do things on the island, I just hope it isn't too hard because I really don't feel like learning a new language." Cole tells us.

"Agreed." Jay says.

~~~time skip~~~
I'm peacefully reading a book in my bunk bed while the others are off doing First Spinjitzu Master knows what.  It's been a day since we left Ninjago, and we're still just flying over endless ocean that I'm pretty sure, as I've already said, is endless.  If we keep going the way we are, I'm pretty sure we would end up right back on the other side of Ninjago.
I'm still reading my book when Cole bursts into the room and spots me on my bed.  "There you are!  We see the island in the distance!" he tells me. Talk about speak of the devil.  I hop off the bed and rush onto the deck. We go over to where Jay and Zane are and look into the distance, and sure enough, a large island sits in front of us.
"Finally!  Now we'll get to see what this island is really like!" Jay says.  Honestly, I've got to agree with him.  We have all been wondering for weeks on what the island is like, and now that we're actually looking at it, we all seem more eager than before.
"Preparing to land." Nya says over the loudspeaker.  We pull in and we land in an isolated spot in a bay.  Wu, Garmadon, and Misako come above deck and over to us.
We all turn to them and Garmadon says demandingly, "Now listen, we're setting up some ground rules.  None of you will go exploring until we've found a place to hide the bounty and checked our supplies.  None of you will leave the surrounding area unless you've told one of us.  And if you see something suspicious, do not investigate it.  You will come back and tell one of us.  Understood?"
"Yes sensei." We say in unison.
Nya comes from the control room and joins us.  Garmadon fills her in on the rules while I look out into the jungle.  It's very humid here, which is odd considering it's fall, but the wind from the coast cools you off.  I look above me at the sky to look at the clouds when I see something odd flying around.
It looks like a bird with a really long tail and big wings, but it's too far away to tell exactly what it is.  The thing flies around a bit more and I grab binoculars that were close by when I notice that the thing isn't a bird, it's... a person?
The thing then flys behind the clouds and I loose sight of it.  The others call for me to start setting up camp and I walk over to join them, looking back to see if I was imagining things.  All I find is a sky full of clouds.  This mission is going to be more interesting than I thought.
Lloyd POV
After training Splenda sent us out on our daily patrol.  I'm the one who has to take it today, Ash will be tomorrow, then Katie, then Haru.  The same goes for the night patrol.  I have to patrol all of the village territory that goes all the way up to the coast.
I turned into my dragon form and was flying over everything, looking out for any suspicious activity.  So far all I had seen was people from my village in canoes trying to catch fish.
After an hour or so of patrolling I noticed a strange figure on the eastern coast.  I stayed high up in the sky and looked with my sharp vision at the figure.  Is that a... ship?  I've never seen one that that before.  I notice that there's a group of people on the ship who, by the looks of it, are talking to one another.  If there's one thing I know for sure, that's not one of ours, considering the fact we don't even have ships, just boats.  I watch the people a little longer.  I should tell the others.  I turn around and disappear behind the clouds.  Whoever those people are, they're bad news.
~~~time skip~~~

"A ship?  With people on it?" Ashley asks me.  We are seated in Splenda's basement on her couches.  Splenda stands off to the side, listening to every word of our conversation.

"Yes.  It was a large red ship that looked to have a dragon head carved into it on the bow." I tell her.

"Where did it come from?  It must have come in today because I checked the east coast last night, and there was nothing there." Haru tells us.

"That's so odd."  Katie speaks up.  "And you said there were no stone warriors or shadow assassins?"

"No.  There wasn't anything there Overlord related."

"I don't trust it.  Not one bit." Haru says.  "I bet they have something to do with the Overlord."

"We don't know that babe." Ash says to him.

"We're you spotted?" Splenda suddenly speaks up.

"No, I wasn't.  I was too high up in the sky for them to see me."

"Hmm." She replies.  "We shouldn't take any chances.  You all are too important to be found out by the Overlord.  I want you all to spy on them, find out what their motives are."

"What if they don't work for the Overlord?" I ask.

"If they don't, try to find out where they came from.  I have a feeling there may be someone I know aboard that ship."

"Wait, someone you know?  How would you know one of them?" Ash asks.

"That is a question for a later date.  Now, tomorrow I want you to go and investigate the scene.  For now, we keep our distance."

"Yes Splenda." We say in unison.  We are all dismissed and we head out to get back to our activities.  I return to patrol and everyone else goes back to doing their own things.

Kai POV

We are all working to camouflage the bounty.  We had moved the bounty into a big mountain cave that is hidden by a large waterfall in the south, so there isn't much need for camouflage now.  But, Wu and Garmadon don't want to take chances, so they are having us reinforce the cave entrance.  How did we get the bounty inside exactly?  One word: Nya.  I can't stop thinking about that thing, no, person in the sky.  I mean, I'm sure it was a person... but what kind of person has wings?  Maybe I'm just going crazy or the sun was in my eyes.  Then I remember what Cole and Nya had said the other day:

"I mean, if there are whole populations of people on the Dark Island, who knows what else there is..." I had said.

"I don't really know.  Maybe new species of animal." Nya said.

"Or a new species of humans." Cole had added.

Cole's theory may have been right after all, despite how dumb it sounds.  Did I see a new species of human?  "Kai!" I'm snapped out of my thoughts as a female voice calls me from the bounty.  "Come in for dinner!"  It's Misako.

"I'm coming!" I tell her.  Should I tell them what I saw?  No, they wouldn't believe me.  I join the others at the table.  Zane prepared meatloaf.  I take a bite of meatloaf and swallow.  Would they?
