Ch 20: the temple of light

Sorry for not updating, motivation hasn't been on my side as of late.

Lloyd POV

"So, where is this 'Temple of Light' again?" Jay asks everyone.  During the meeting, Wu told us about an ancient temple called the Temple of Light.  The temple is said to have the power to give the destined green ninja and his protectors the power to defeat the Overlord.  It will also be the key for me unlocking my true potential, the golden dragon.  I have no idea what any of it means yet, but we'll find out soon enough.  Wu also sent us all out to find the temple.  We are currently trudging through the dense jungle in search for it, using a special medallion that works as a compass to find it.

"I don't know." Cole answers. "I guess we'll know when we find it."

"We do have the medallion after all." Haru points out.

"How does it work again?" Katie asks around.

Nya looks over her shoulder at my sister.  She's the one who holds the medallion.  "See these three holes?" She says, pointing at three small holes near the top of it.  "Misako said that if we point it somewhere, three ominous lights will line up with the holes, and that's how we'll know the location."

"Three ominous lights?" Ash interrupts.  "That could literally be anything though." She points out.

"The temple is sacred.  I'm sure they won't just be any kind of light.  If anything, it may look supernatural." Zane says.

"Let's not concern ourselves too much with what we'll do to find it, and focus on what we'll do when we find it. Misako mentioned that I have to strike some 'instrument of peace' whatever that is." I say.

"I'm sure you'll figure it out." Kai tells me. He's been walking closely next to me for the whole trip so far. "Besides, you're the green ninja! You got this." He nudges my arm with his elbow as he pep talks me.

I give a light chuckle. "Yeah, okay." He attempts to ruffle my hair but I bat his hands away while laughing. "Hey! No!" I say while smoothing my wavy hair down.

No One's POV

Jay leans over into Nya's ear. "Is it just me, or is your brother and Lloyd like, really close."

"Well, they were stuck traveling and doing really dangerous stuff together. That kind of stuff can bring even pure opposites together." She answers back.

"I guess, but they hardly ever talked before the attack on the cliffside two weeks ago. I don't know something just seems off here."

"You're just paranoid." Haru comes up behind the two, causing them to jump a little.

"Have you been listening in on our conversation?" Nya asks him, suddenly defensive.

"Pretty much. You two aren't the best at whispering. You're just lucky I'm the only one who heard it and not them." He says, gesturing to Kai and Lloyd. "Anyway, I've known Lloyd since we were babies. He's actually pretty easy to get along with. Even if Kai and Lloyd never talked before now, they were bound to become friends eventually."

Jay and Nya look at each other. Haru retreats back to where Cole and Zane stroll along the damp, luscious earth. "See?" Nya says to Jay. "There's nothing to be suspicious about! They're just friends!" Jay looks over at the two, gives them one last suspicious look, and then draws his attention to a new conversation Katie and Ash are having.

Kai POV

~~~time skip~~~
"Man, we've been searching all day. And so far, we've found nothing!" Katie says aloud. We now all sit on the rocks next to a river not too far from a couple of mountains, resting from all the walking we've done so far.
"We've even gone outside of your village territory!" Cole says. "It's well past afternoon now. At this rate it'll take us all night to get back!"
"Oh come on, is this all you guys do? Complaining won't get us any closer to the temple." Ash says.
"Agreed." Zane says. "Who has the medallion now?" Jay, who is laying on his back on top of a large boulder, holds up the medallion.
"Hold on, who gave Jay the medallion?" I ask everyone. Nya shrugs.
"Jay wanted to try it, so I have it to him." She says.
"And so far I've found nothing." He says while sitting up, frowning at the artifact. Lloyd stands up.
"I'm done sitting around. I'm going to get a look from above. Wanna come with, Katie?" He asks his twin. The brunet stands up with stars in her eyes.
"Would I ever!" She says. "I'm so bored and I've been meaning to stretch my wings!" She says as she turns into her dragonkin form. Lloyd does the same and they take off I to the air, leaving the rest of us to think of what to do.
"Well, surly we'll be able to find it soon." Haru says. "We'll just wait for Lloyd and Katelyn to come back."
"I don't think we really have a choice." Zane says to us. "I'm sure they'll be back soon though."
~~~half an hour later~~~

"I spy... another tree!" Jay says as he looks through the largest hole in the center of the medallion. Everyone groans at Jay's annoying game. Haru has just been shapeshifting into multiple different animals this whole time. One form even being a grizzly bear.

"Jay, how did you ever become a ninja, like, seriously?" Cole asks him.

Jay props himself on his elbows and looks at his best friend. "Master Wu saw something in me.  He saw that I was the master of lighting."

"Or maybe you just talked his ears off and he labeled you the guy who talks as fast as lightning strikes." I say to him.

"And as loud as thunder." Zane joins in.

"Ha ha, very funny you two." He says sarcastically with a glare.

"Man, where are those two?" Nya says, looking up at the sky. As if on cue, two figures swoop down from the clouds and land gracefully on the ground. "Huh, talk about perfect timing." She says more to herself than anyone else. They don't transform out of their dragonkin form, and they both look a little panicked.

"Sorry we were gone so long, we tried flying over everything to try and find it but we found nothing." Lloyd explains urgently.

"Actually, we did find something, troops of stone warriors are headed this way! We've got to get moving!" Katie says.

We all scramble up from our sitting positions at the news. We look around for somewhere to start heading towards. "We need to find the temple, now!" Zane tells us.

"Hold on!" Jay yells to us so we stop. "I've found it!" He says sitting up and pointing the medallion at the mountains.

"Wait, seriously?" I ask him. I grab the medallion from his hands and sure enough, three ominous lights are aligned perfectly with the holes in the medallion. "Zap Trap's right! The temple has to be over there!" I say, pointing to the mountains.

"Well, lets get going, because the warriors are on their way here!" Lloyd says.

"Let's go!" Ash says as she leads the way towards the mountains with everyone following close behind; The twins flying overhead in the sky. When we reach the mountain we look up at it. It's too steep to climb. We can hear the roaring of the warrior's vehicles in the distance coming closer to us. Haru draws his kwando and Ash grabs out her whip.

"You guys go," Haru says to us. "The prophecy says for the ninja to get to the temple. We'll hold them off!" Katie, still in her dragonkin form, draws her bow and loads it with an arrow, ready to release it the moment a warrior breaks through the tree line.

"Are you sure?" Lloyd says, worried for his friends.

"Yeah, go!" Katie says. He turns away from them and signals Cole over to him. He says something to him when he reaches him.  Cole nods and together, they make a platform rise from the ground with their earth elements.

"Hop on, we'll send you up the mountain!" Cole says to us.  We get onto the platform and they use their elements to send the platform sky high up the mountain.  It stops somewhere where the rocks arch in so we can stand on the mountain.  Not a moment later, Lloyd comes flying above us to set Cole down beside us.  He lands gracefully next to us and starts looking around frantically.

"Start looking for it!" He commands us.  We all spread out in search for the temple.  Lloyd takes off into the air once more while I start to climb the rocks to get higher up.  After a few minutes, Nya's voice is heard above the howling winds blowing in our faces.

"Any sign?" She calls out.

"Nothing over here!" Jay says from below.

"Not over here!" Cole says.

"Same result!" Zane says.

Where is it... I think to myself.  Then I remember Lloyd taking off.  I look into the sky for the green and gold dragonkin.  I spot him hovering in the air, scanning the mountain.  "Lloyd!  Any sign?" I yell to him.  At first, he doesn't acknowledge my call, but then he looks in my direction.

"I found it!" He yells to me.

"Guys, over here!" I say to them and start to lead them to where Lloyd has now landed.  When we climb up there I'm shocked at the sight.  The tall glittering temple stands like a relic, the beautiful golden walls are scratched up with a faded glow caused from the time that has passed.  The large doors are decorated with many paintings and engravings that are extremely ancient.  I go to stand next to Lloyd as he puts his wings and tail away, staring in awe at the sight.

"Come on, we've got to hurry!" Zane reminds us, snapping us out of our daze.  We walk up to the large doors and make an effort to push them open.  After a few moments of pushing, we finally move the doors open and light floods into the dusty and worn out room.  There are five pillars surrounding the center of the rounded room.  Along the walls are several paintings of people who are all doing different things.

"Hey, that's us!" Jay says, pointing to a couple of the paintings.

We all look suspiciously at it the paintings. "Wait, how is that possible?" Cole says.

"They are prophecies." Zane says.  "And look, each one alternates from us, to The Silent Soarers.  This one is of when the five of us met." He says pointing to one. He points to another. "And this one is of when we met Lloyd!  But look, one's different from the others."

He points to the one in the center.  "Wait, that's of right now!" Jay says.

"How is that possible?" I ask aloud.

"Destiny..." Lloyd says.

"As great as this all is, what are we suppose to do now?" Nya asks us.

Lloyd POV

I look around the room.  Misako's voice rings in my head.  For once the green ninja finds the instrument of peace, he will strike it, and know the power of the Ultimate Spinjitzu Master. "Instrument of peace..." I mumble to myself.  My eyes fall onto the floor in the center of the room.

I walk up to it and crouch down, keeping my eyes on it.  I can feel my teammates eyes on me, but I stay silent.  I brush the thick coat of dust away from the floor to reveal many colored stone tiles in the shape of a green and golden dragon.  My eyes dart around the room at the five pillars.  "This shape on the ground... I think it represents me!  Go to a pillar and brush away the dust, there should be one for you too!" I say.  It's just a hunch, but I'm positive this means something.  The others go to a pillar and brush away the dust to see tiles with dragons colored and symbolized to their element as well.

"Wait, how did you know that?" Jay asks me.

I shrug my shoulders.  "Just a hunch I guess."  Everyone now stands in their places at the pillars.

"So... now what?" Make asks around.  I look around again and then above me at the ceiling.  A large bell hangs from the peak and center of the roof.  Realization dawns over me.

"The bell, it's an instrument!"  I look around at them.  "You guys ready for this?"

"Go for it kid!" Cole says excitedly.  I summon my wings and tail and I take off into the air.  I whip around quickly and strike the bell hard with the kick of my leg.  I drop down into the position I was once before and put away my wings.  A beam of light shines around me from the bell.

"Woah, what's happening?!" I yell out, scared at the sudden light shining onto me.

"No one move!" Zane yells at us.

I level my breathing and suddenly, I can feel a new spark of energy and overwhelming peace flood through my veins.  I tilt my head up slightly and close my eyes, letting the light lift me up into the air.  Smaller beams of light shine from where my heart is and bounces off the crystals embedded into the walls towards the ninja.  Their gi change from their solid color into a jet black base with stripes of their original colors running along it.  They summon their powers and they look 5 times stronger then they were a couple minutes ago.  The light fades away and I'm dropped onto the ground, also dressed into a gi like the others.

"Lloyd!" Kai calls out, worried that I was dropped onto the floor.  Calls from the warriors are heard from outside the doors and they suddenly burst the door open.  I get up onto my feet, looking at the army charging in before us.

"Let 'em have it!" I say to the ninja.  They summon their newly enhanced powers and use them against the army, actually beating them up unlike all the times before.  One by one the warriors are beaten, but more come in and the ninja circle up around me.  "My turn..." I say.  I summon all of my elements at once and leap towards the warriors, sending all of my powers at the them.  The warriors are knocked all the way back, causing them to be thrusted off the cliff by a big explosion of power.  The team surrounds me and sends their praises at me.  Kai comes up behind me and wraps his arm around my waist, his hand ruffling my hair.  I yelp in surprise and everyone laughs.

"You're officially the green ninja now!" He says in pure delight.

"You were so powerful!" Jay tell me after I've wrestled my way out of Kai's grip.

I laugh as I fix my hair.  "I couldn't do it without you guys."  They give me a group hug and Kai sneaks a kiss on my head, which goes unnoticed to to everyone else.  I blush as they let go of me.  I'm taken back to reality as I think of the Silent Soarers.  "Oh no, the others!" I say as I take off running out of the temple.  The others follow me and out of pure instinct I almost summon my dragon form.  No, I'm an actual ninja now, and I'm pretty sure one of their mottos is that "ninja never leave another ninja behind". So, I will travel the way they do, on foot.  The others follow close behind me and after a few minutes of descending the mountain I'm met by the sudden appearance of Katelyn.

"Katie!" I say, relieved that she's okay.  We hug.  "Are you okay?  Are the others okay?"

"Yeah, we're all fine.  They broke through our defenses and started to go after you guys, which I'm sure you already know."  She looks us over.  "Wow, nice gi!" She says, impressed.  "Does this mean it was a success?"

"Yes, it was." Zane says.  "And now we should be getting back to the bounty."

"Zane's right.  Where's Ashley and Haru?" Nya says.

"They're waiting at the bottom of the mountain.  Come on."  We make our way to the bottom the mountain, the same way we got up, and we reunite with the other couple of the group, looking slightly worn out.

"Damn, where can I get me one of those?" Ash says, referring to our attire.

"Come on, we'll get you one once we get back to the bounty." I say, already walking in the direction of the bounty.

"I'll take you up on that deal!" She says, bouncing after me.

~~~time skip~~~
"Well done, ninja." Wu praises us for our successful mission.  "With your new enhanced powers, our attack on the Overlord should be slightly easier, but don't let your guard down.  Evil may be lurking all around you."
"Yes Master!" We all say in unison.  Garmadon is next to speak.
"Splenda, Wu, and I have been talking, and we believe it is time for the Silent Soarers to become official members of the ninja team."  We all light up.
"You mean, actual ninja?!" Ash asks him.  He nods.  We break out into smiles and become even more excited.
"Wow!  Looks like Lloyd isn't the only one becoming an official ninja today!" Cole says, ruffling my hair.
I bat his hands away playfully.  "What is it with you guys and your obsession over my hair?" I ask them.
Splenda talks before I can get an answer. "My students, you have all come so far. I am so very proud of you, and I am overjoyed to have had the privilege of training all of you. And for the rest of you, who I've only met more two months ago, I'm so glad destiny pulled us together. Without all of you, we would not be this close to actually defeating the Overlord. This is the moment we've all been waiting for." She says.
Wu, Garmadon, and Misako nod. "Now, you've all had a long day. You four, go home and go to sleep." He says, gesturing to me and my friends.  "The rest of you, head to bed.  You all have a long day of training tomorrow."
"Yes Master!" We all say.  We start saying our goodnights when Kai pulls me aside into another room that doesn't have any lights on.
"So, green ninja, how do you feel about this whole thing?" He asks me.
"Nerve-racking." I say.  "I mean, I'm the one destined to defeat the Overlord, and I know I won't be doing it alone, but it's still so stressful!"  Kai places his hand on my cheek.
"Hey, relax, you'll do great.  We'll all be there for you."  I laugh quietly.
"I know, I know." I say, eyes on the ground.  Kai moves his hand from my cheek to under my chin, tilting my head up to look at him.  He kisses me softly and I melt into the sweetness of his lips.  His free hand grabs mine and we stay like that for a couple of seconds until we pull away.
"I love you, okay?" He says, making me blush madly.
"I-I l-love you t-too." I stutter, burying my face into my hands out of embarrassment.  Kai just looks at me lovingly and embraces me into his arms.
"You're so cute." he says.  Before I can protest a sudden voice comes from the doorway of the room.
"What the-?!"
————————
Yeah yeah, I know, you're wondering why Lloyd wasn't given golden power at the temple of light.  Don't worry, I have a plan.  All will be explained soon, you just have to trust me.  Also, I know I've been gone a while, and I'm sorry for that, but I'm trying to develop more ideas for the story and, well, writers block.
Also, I realize I don't have a group name for Splenda's students. I'm gonna have to fix that... any suggestions???? 6/14/20
Well, with that out of the way, enjoy the rest of your day/night!
