Part 50
"Talk to me... yeah... yeah... no, I can't come back yet... personal business... yeah... do you know me at all? Of course I'm keeping up with my training... yeah... a few more days, at a guess... you heard me... no, I don't know... look, I'll tell you when I'm coming back, okay?... good... got it... yeah, bye."
I hang up with a sigh. Boss is calling, and not Eon. He wants me back at work. Still, I know he can't afford to fire me so I'm not worried. Besides, it's not like I need this job.
I feel a wing drape itself over me and smile as I look over at a groggy Night. "Who was that?" He asks, yawning.
"My boss," I shrug. "Everything's fine, he's just wondering when I'll be back." "Oh, okay," he nods, then licks my cheek. I blush slightly and lick his back. What? We're dragons!
"Come on, let's get some breakfast," he smiles. As if in agreement, my stomach growls. He chuckles and leads me towards the river.
We grab some fish, munching on it absentmindedly for a while until Night speaks up. "So, Vex... when were you planning on returning?" He asks curiously.
"I don't know anymore, to be honest," I reply. "My plan was to go home after I completed the rituals, but now that I have you..."
"I could come with you, if you'd like," Night offers. "I'd love to see your home." "It's not much," I shrug. "Cave's really small. And you don't have to go all that way for me."
"I want to," Night insists. "I'll have to at some point, anyway. Besides, I already told you I'd love to travel outside the Citadel. This seems like as good a place to start as any."
"If you say so, then," I smile. "But first I kinda wanna practice this whole invisibility thing you mentioned I'd be able to do."
"Oh, sure," Night agrees. "Maybe Cleo could teach you since she's another female?" "Uh... I'm not sure that's the best idea..." I reply hesitantly. "After the whole mate thing, I'm not sure she'd be happy to teach me."
"That's fair..." Night admits. "Oh well, I guess I can try to explain it to you. Not sure how well it'll go, though." "That'd be great," I smile. He smiles back and we start walking towards the training area.
"So how do I do this?" I ask as we walk. He considers for a moment. "Well... as far as I know you try and channel all the emotions you can into one beam of rainbow aura. Then you kind of... spit it out, I guess... and it does the rest."
"That... isn't going to be easy..." I comment, frowning. Is it even possible for me to channel all those emotions into a single beam? Well, I guess it must be for it to be something Night knows, but still. It just seems unfathomable.
"No, but that's all I can really tell you. I'm not a female," Night sighs. "Just... give it a go, I guess. I know you're good at this stuff."
I nod and attempt to follow Night's vague instructions once we reach the training area. My eyes close, my focus moving to my powers. I hold my jaw open and hold a red burst of aura there. Once that's steady, I add an orange one. Unfortunately, this replaces the red rather than joining it, making me frown.
I try to add red to that, but once again the colours are swapped out rather than connected. I sigh and release the shot at the ground weakly, letting it sizzle out into nothing at my feet. "I can't get two stable at once," I sigh to Night.
"Maybe you just need practice?" Night suggests. "Yeah, okay," I nod, trying again. Night encourages me when he sees I need it, but mostly just stays quiet and observes.
We spend the next few hours like this, occasionally taking a sort of break to practice forging the different colours. We have no issues there. It's just keeping multiple set at once that's the difficult part. Occasionally I manage to get a flicker of the colours aligned, but before I can add the third one in it's already deteriorated.
I sigh once I'm worn out. "I don't think this is gonna work out like this. I think I'm going about it wrong." "Probably," Night agrees. I mean, you've completed the rituals, this should be a piece of cake for you. I guess a female's input would be best."
I nod, then sigh, lying down. Man, I'm exhausted. "How about you go rest up for now?" Night suggests. "I'm going to go talk to my dad about going with you. I really do wanna see your home. And this Academy you keep talking about."
"You'll love what I've done with the training arena there," I chuckle, getting back up. He wraps a wing around me and walks me back, chuckling. "I'm sure I will, Vex. I'm sure I will."

"You mind giving us a minute? I wanna wind 'em up first."
"Sure," Night chuckles in amusement, sitting outside. "I'm gonna watch, though." "Go for it," I smirk before I walk in casually. At first none of the Skylanders notice, so I sit down between Stealth Elf and Eruptor on the sofa, tapping at my phone. Wow, how long's this gonna take?
After a full minute I look around at them all. Everyone's on their phone as well, they haven't even looked up. I clear my throat. "Hey, Master Eon..." they all mumble distractedly. I roll my eyes, getting back up so I'm in the middle of the room.
"RROOAAAARRRRRR!!!"
"Ahh!" Everyone shrieks, leaping up and dropping their phones in the process. I laugh at their collective heart attack. "Finally have your attention, then?" I tease as they realise what's going on.
"Vexelle!" Four out of the five grin, auras radiating yellow. The fifth joins quickly, though their aura is cyan in their panic. I frown slightly, noting, not for the first time, something very odd about them.
"So... anyone care to explain Spyro's new... look?"
