Part 28
My first class are simple; Roller Brawl, Hex and Skull, Chill and Cynder. I haven't really met Chill before, but she knows who I am and I've heard decent things about her, so I'm hoping we'll get along alright.
I've got Jet Vac supervising my class to make sure things go smoothly, as per Eon's request for my first few lessons just to make sure I'm doing things right. He's got a clipboard and pen with him and he's making notes about every little detail.
"Alright," I say to begin after Jet Vac formally introduces me as the new training instructor. "We're going to start things off with something simple so I can see what all of you need to work on. Everyone stretch and get ready."
I watch them all stretch out, then I make them line up at the start of the obstacle course. "Ok, you're all going straight in," I say. "I need to see your best work for this. No slacking off or you'll find out what my kind of punishments are. Ready? Go!"
Everyone springs into action. I start by watching Roller Brawl. She's very precise in her movements and is obviously very skilled, but her dives could use a little work. "Looking good, Roller Brawl, keep working on the dives!" I instruct.
Then I watch Hex and Skull, who aren't doing quite so good. I think it's Hex's long dress that keeps tripping her up, but her balance definitely needs to improve. "Hex, straighten out! Skull, work with her to make sure you both improve!"
Chill comes next. She's clearly got to improve her evasion, though her speed is good. "Look for new angles to approach, Chill!" I tell her. Almost instantly she shows improvement. Very marginal improvement, but improvement nonetheless. "Looking better!"
Finally, Cynder. She's pretty good, phasing through obstacles she almost gets hit by and generally doing good with other forms of evasion. "Good instincts, Cynder!" I say. "Now try and speed it up if you can!"
I then fly upwards and look down over the entire course, watching them go. They're all improving now, which is good. I hope they can keep this up. I'll have high standards now, not that they were low before. I take their training just as seriously as I do my own, especially since I'm certain every one of them will one day become Skylanders. They need to be trained well for such a task.
I keep watching them, often shouting down praise and improvements, until they all eventually make it to the end of the course, panting slightly from the effort. I land beside them and give them a moment to regain their breaths before I address them again.
"You all did good today. Like with everyone, there's much room for improvement, but clearly you guys are up to snuff. Roller Brawl, your balance is excellent, but I want to work on your dives. Hex, I want you to improve your agility, though you and Skull both work well together when you want to. Chill, you'll need to further your evasion, but you're already getting much better at that. And Cynder, you're generally great, so the best use of your time is to pick up more strength and especially speed. Is everyone clear?"
I receive nods, so I grin and use a yellow shockwave on them all. Even Skull starts smiling... well, as much as Skull ever smiles, anyway. "Alright, class dismissed. Get out of here before I make you run this thing again."
It was meant as a joke, but they all still ran quickly. I chuckled in amusement at that.
Jet Vac comes over to me. "Not bad for your first class, Vexelle," he states, still scribbling away on his clipboard. "You'll do fine work as training instructor if you keep this up."
"Let's hope so," I reply. "Honestly, I'm kind of enjoying this." "Glad to hear it," Jet Vac nods. "I'll hand in my report to Master Eon, I'll see you later."
With that, he leaves, so I start up the obstacle course again and begin practicing on it. I duck and dodge and dive around everything that the course throws my way. Of course, my eyes are closed throughout my little training session. I don't often train with my eyes open.
I keep going, not noticing the time, so when I finally realise my surroundings it's already night. "Whoops..." I mutter, shutting off the course. It whirred to a stop, causing silence aside from crickets chirping pleasantly. I hope I wasn't keeping anyone awake.
I start flying back to my cave through the darkness. It's no problem for me, especially since I've trained to fly at night. Training really does pay off and anyone who says otherwise should take a look at me go.
I land at my cave within a few minutes, then I scuttle inside. The dark, cozy cave is the best place to sleep in. I curl up on my pillow and soon fall asleep.
~•~
Huh... this is a strange dream.
For some reason I'm watching some weird blue floating head laugh at me. I decide to see what this dream has planned and just go with it. "Uh... what the heck's supposed to be going on?"
The head smirks and floats around me quickly. I keep an eye on her... it looks like a her, anyway. It's got a giant pink bow. "Look, dumb dragon girl, I just needed to talk to you and frankly your cave is way too cramped and ugly," she says, flipping her blue hair.
"Uh... you've seen inside my cave?"
"Not me, someone else took some pictures while you were out. How do you live in there?" I'm guessing she's supposed to be a teenager by her attitude and whiny, young voice. "I prefer function over form," I shrug simply. "Just because it's not beautiful doesn't mean it's not useful."
"Like you," she snickers. "Anyway, I've been sent by the Golden Queen to get some information out of you, so let's make this easy."
