Part 2

The second I embraced the energies around me, they became visible to my mind's eye. I didn't need my real eyes to see them, I could sense them and the colours they possessed. It was my power. It was my kind's namesake.

Aura.

I can see the auras of the trees that surround me. I can see the tiniest of bugs scuttling along the forest floor. I can see the slight swaying of each and every blade of grass beneath me.

But unfortunately that's not the only thing I see and I have to suppress a sigh. Instead I keep still, not showing any sign of life. That dragon is carefully dodging trees, looking around to find me. I could fly way faster than him through this forest with my eyes closed. Just saying.

He finally spots me and stops, happy that he found me. Then it turns to confusion at my current state. Then concern. He comes closer, trying not to disturb me. Once he's close enough that he can reach out and touch me, I snap my eyes open, causing him to yelp and leap back.

I chuckle. "Never gets old. Now why are you here?" "What were you just doing?" He's curious now. "Special training," I reply. "By... going to sleep?" He asks.

"By... let's say looking at the parts of the world that nobody else can see," I decide to say. "You see things by closing your eyes?" He grows skeptical.

"I can always demonstrate," I offer with a smirk. "Start flying around above me. I bet I can hit you with my eyes closed, or at least get very close depending on how good your evasive manoeuvres are."

"Uh... okay?" He's concerned about this idea, but still grabs a large leaf from a tree and wraps it around my head like a blindfold. It works effectively. He starts swooping around at random in the area. I sense his aura, focusing in on it. I know exactly where he is.

I charge up and shoot a beam of aura out of my mouth towards him. The colour turns out red. Sounds about right. He's not expecting me to be so accurate and gets shot down by the blast, smacking into a tree. "Are you alright?" I ask, hurrying over to him, still blindfolded.

"Yeah," he nods, rubbing his head a little. He grows curious. "How do you know where you're going, anyway? Is the blindfold not working?"

"Oh no, it works perfectly fine," I reply honestly. "But my kind don't need our eyes to see. Well, we have other methods of knowing where things are."

"Speaking of dragon kinds, what else can you tell me about mine?" He asked eagerly. I chuckle at his enthusiasm. "Nothing else, really. I never knew much. I just know those few basics that I've already told you. Sorry."

He droops, disappointed. "Oh... then what about your dragon kind?"

"Well fear isn't the only emotion I can make you feel," I smirk. "I can alter any emotion, however indirectly." "Really? Like what?" He asks.

"Well... there's this." I emitted another aura wave, this one yellow. The second he gets hit by it, he starts grinning and bouncing around happily. I laugh. "Happiness. A powerful, positive emotion."

I revert him back to normal and he stops, a little embarrassed. "Uh... that never happened." "What never happened?" I smirk. He smirks back. "Right, now onto the big question... what were you doing in the Academy?"

I shake my head. "Investigating a source, then gathering strength. That's the easiest way to explain it, I guess." "If that's the easiest way, the hard way must make brains explode because I still don't get it," the dragon remarked. I can't help but laugh.

"It's simpler to me, but I guess since we're different dragon kinds and I was born with these powers it means I know much more about it." "What dragon kind are you, anyway?" He asks.

"I'm an Aura Dragon," I reply. "We can sense and manipulate auras, to put it simply. I alter your emotions by tampering with your aura. That's how I caused all of you to get so scared earlier and how I just made you do a freaking happy dance."

He chuckled, embarrassed again. "I can also read your aura to tell what your emotions are," I add. "Never bother trying to hide your emotions from me. I can see right through all the lies."

"I think I've heard of Aura Dragons before," he says, thinking. "I thought there weren't any more." "We're naturally a reclusive species," I shrug. "There may be more of us out there. Someone had to have come before me for me to be here."

"Just like with me and my dragon kind," he says, a hint of sadness creeping in. "I don't know where they are, Master Eon found me not long after I hatched from my egg. He and the Skylanders are the closest thing I have to family."

"I'm sorry to hear that," I say carefully, noting that he's more sad now. "It's fine, I guess," he sighs. "I just wish I knew more about my family and where I come from."

"I know the feeling," I agree. "What happened to your family?" He asks. "I... I'd rather not talk about it with a stranger," I say hesitantly. "Well what's your name?" He persists. "Vexelle," I answer. "And my name's Spyro," he grins. "Now we're not strangers. Want to talk?"

I chuckle. "It's not always that easy, Spyro. You may be happy to just chat away about everything under the sun to someone you only just met, but I'm more reserved."

"Oh come on, I told you about my family!" He sits like a small child getting ready for a bedtime story, excited now. I roll my eyes and sigh, hopping gracefully down from the branch I'm on and using my wings as a parachute to fall slowly.

"I guess I'll have to tell you about myself, if only to shut you up."
