All In The Family
A night in Shanghai was similar to a night in Paris, it's breezy and beautiful and the food and drinks are welcoming. Jonathan had a club in town so we decided to surprise him. The club was more fancy looking, the insanely wealthy could regularly go if they wanted. Jonathon was at the bar having a glass of what looked like scotch. We stopped a few feet from him, Rick and Evie wanted me to go first. I sat by him and put my hand on his shoulder.
"Hmm?"
He looked around confused until he noticed me.
"DD, is that you love!?"
I hugged him.
"How are you Jonathon!?"
"Enjoying this lovely night. What brings you-"
That was when his sister and brother-in-law surprised him. They greeted each other happily.
"Fancy a round?"
"Yes please," Rick said.
"No thank you Jonathon, I don't drink."
"I never saw you have a single drop since we met you D," Jonathon said.
Because I've been 14 for hundreds of years.
"Well I'm sorry, it's just that abuse of addictive vices runs in my family, I don't want to continue that cycle whatsoever."
"That's perfectly fine dear, I'll whack em if he forces you," Evie said.
Jonathon drunkenly patted me on the back.
"If you don't want any, that's alright, but I know someone who might...Alex!"
We saw Alex walk to us. We didn't expect to see Alex in China. Alex had a friend with him, it was an older gentleman.
"Where the hell have you been!?" Rick asked.
"I've been traveling Dad, plus, I'm a grown man now."
"You're still our son, we were so worried," Evie said.
It started to escalate to Alex storming out.
"I'll go talk to him," Jonathon said.
"I'm right behind you."
I followed the two men outside.
"They still treat me like I'm 10 years old," Alex vented to his uncle.
"Well Alex, they love you very much, it worried them that you left out of nowhere," I said.
He smiled as soon as he saw me.
"I didn't realize you were there Auntie D, I'm sorry."
I gave him a side hug.
"You've been here all this time?"
"Yes, me and Wilson discovered something amazing recently."
"What is it?"
"It's a surprise for all of you."
"It's a big mountain of treasure isn't it?"
"Not really, it's better than gold."
"You can tell me, we've shared secrets for as long as you can remember."
"You can wait, you're good with patience."
I playfully nudged him. I sensed Rick and Evie behind us. We turned around.
"Hey, I'm sorry I overreacted," Rick said.
Him and Alex hugged it out.
"Mom, Dad, I understand your overreaction, but I'm safe now, that's what matters."
"It's good to see you darling," Evie said.
He gave her a hug.
