Secrets Revealed | Part 2
I haul the unconscious girl over my shoulder. Thankfully she's pretty light and I'm strong. I hurry out and onto the deck, hoping that I can get her somewhere safer than here.
A Scauldron - the same Scauldron who was next to the ship when we first arrived - looked to Artemis with a guilty expression. Why is it feeling guilty? Maybe I'm just reading it wrong.
It leans it's neck down and for a moment I think it's trying to get a good aim for a blast at us, but instead it sniffs at Artemis and offers it's head to carry her on. "You want to help us?" I ask it. It narrows it's eyes at me, but nudges Artemis gently. I carefully ease her onto the dragon.
It moves her onto it's back as carefully as it seems to be able to, then blasts water at the hunters. Stormfly lands next to me, rawking happily. I smile and mount up, ready to abandon ship.
"Did you get her?" Hiccup asks me the moment we're away from the boat. "The Scauldron is looking after her," I reply, pointing to Artemis. "She's out of it and she's got some bruises but apart from that she looks fine."
He seems relieved, but there's more I need to say. "Hiccup, they took her mask off," I tell him. Hiccup freezes while Toothless and Stormfly rawk out a cheer for some reason.
"Let's get her to the Edge. It's closer. Besides, we don't need any guests peeking at her."
I nod at Hiccup's suggestion. "To the Edge!" I yell to the others before flying over to where Heather is keeping Flashwing company.
"She's safe, she's with the Scauldron, I think it might be one of her dragons," I tell them. Flashwing looks relieved to know her rider is safe, but when she sees her she grows nervous.
Heather nods and flies off so I turn to Flashwing. "She's unconscious but she doesn't look like she's been hurt. Go grab her and follow us, we'll take care of her."
Flashing looked to me, fear in her eyes, before obeying. The as cauldron didn't seen happy to have Artemis taken from it, but after a few roars from Flashwing it seemed fine again.
We start moving to Dragon's Edge, Flashwing carrying Artemis in her talons. Of course the others notice that her mask is off and get curious.
"My babe is so beautiful!" Snotlout coos. I punch him in the face. "That was on Artemis's behalf," I say before punching him again. "That was just for fun." At the second one the twins snicker.
Once we arrive Hiccup tried to take Artemis from Flashwing but she growled at him and wrapped her up in her wings like a protective shield, hissing whenever we dared to come near her.
"Easy, Flashwing, we're just trying to help," Hiccup tries to calm her down. He offers his hand slowly, as though he's trying to train her, but she just snaps at it. It clearly wasn't supposed to make contact, only frighten him off, but he still retracted his hand quickly.
"She's really protective of Artemis," Heather said. "She's trying to keep her rider safe. It's her instinct." "Well how does that help us now?" Tuff questions.
"Astrid, you said she didn't look too bad, right?" Hiccup asks me. "She's covered in bruises, but that looks like it's it," I nod. "Then we'll let Flashwing Keep Artemis sage for a little while, just until she's happy to let us near Artemis so we can check her over," Hiccup finalises. "If there are any objections, take it up with Flashwing."
Snotlout opened his mouth but one snort from Flashwing was all it took to shut him up again. I chuckle. "We need you here more often if you can keep doing that," I tell Flashwing. She warbles slightly but doesn't release Artemis. The twins and Snotlout leave, apparently bored.
"We don't want to hurt her, you know," I tell her. "If we did, we would've done it by now. Or we would've left her on that ship."
She nods. It's almost like she understands and already trusts us enough, but something is stopping her. "Take all the time you need, just let us look at her at some point so we know she's not hurt," I tell her softly before starting to walk off.
A tugging at my sleeve stops me from leaving and I look at her in surprise. She looks around, as though checking nobody is watching, before letting out a sound that was almost like a sigh and unfurling her wings.
The four of us suck in a breath at the sight of her. This is our first chance at a good, clear look at her face. I still think she looks like Heather, to be honest. They could seriously be twins. They'd be less annoying than our current twins, that's for sure.
"Hiccup, doesn't she look familiar somehow?" Fishlegs asked. "Yeah, I cant quite remember where I've seen her before," Hiccup replied. "It's hugging me, too," I say.
"I don't think she looks familiar, this is probably something you guys did before I came along," Heather says. I nod, then notice that Hiccup has his thinking face on.
"Maybe this is why she didn't want us looking behind her mask," he guessed. "She knew we'd recognise her. That could be what the dragons know, too. It would explain why Artemis knew Windshear wouldn't go crazy around her but our dragons would."
We all nod slowly, realising that he has a point. "Only question is..." he trails off as he starts to look Artemis over for any visible injuries. Thankfully she didn't look like she had any on her and whenever he lightly pressed her bruises she didn't flinch in her sleep. All good signs so far, so she probably was lucky in the end.
Hiccup then stood up again and finished his sentence from before.
"Who is she?"
