Edgy Attacks

"Hey! Artemis!"

I turn to see Hiccup. "Can I help you?" "Did you wait for me to fall asleep just so you could take me back or did something else happen?" He asks sheepishly. "Nope, that sounds pretty accurate," I reply.

"Wait, what happened last night?" Snotlout asks. "Someone refused to leave me be and followed me all through the forest," I answer, gesturing to Hiccup. He chuckles nervously.

"Hiccup!"

We all look to Astrid, who's being flanked by Fishlegs and the twins. "What is it?" Hiccup asks her, instantly alert. "Dragon hunters?"

She nods. "They're near Dragon's Edge. We have to go now. You have the Dragon Eye, right?" "Of course," Hiccup confirms. "Let's go. Artemis, you want to join us?"

"If it means taking out more hunters, count me in," I agree. Flashwing rawks out, ready for a fight. "But can I ask what the Dragon Eye is?"

"It's this," Hiccup shows me a sort of scope. "It contains priceless information on almost every dragon ever!" Fishlegs adds excitedly. He must've gone through this a million times, knowing him.

"Okay, now let's go sort out some hunters," I grin beneath my mask. This should be fun. Hiccup nods and we set off for wherever Dragon's Edge is.

It doesn't take long to realise we're heading in the same direction that I take to get to my island, but before we get very close at all we land someplace else. The island is roughly the same size as mine, though I think mine is just a little smaller.

The multiple ships surrounding the settlement on the island confirms that they're under attack. Flashwing and I keep our distance for now, sizing them up. We need to know exactly the kind of threat we're dealing with.

The hunters have a small fleet with them. Five ships. Around five to ten to each of them. We're dealing with twenty-five to fifty enemies using seven dragons and eight riders.

"Flashwing, take them out nice and quietly," I instruct my partner. She obediently snaps some of her silver barbs towards the hunters, taking a few down without much noise. It still, however, alerts the hunters to my location.

Once the original surprise wears off, the hunters start attacking, trying to take us down from the skies. Suspicious-looking arrows flew at us along with other kinds of weapons. "Ready, girl?" I ask my partner, who roars and moves into a nose dive to gain speed.

We bank up again before they can get too clear a shot and Flashwing continues to avoid any attacks while I try and find a weak point in the ships.

"No!"

My head snaps around and I catch a glimpse of Heather and Windshear, the poor dragon being slowly but surely pulled in by some metal chains around its tail and two talons.

"Blast it," I tell Flashwing, but her fire does nothing to break the chains. "It's dragon-proof, we need another way to get her out," Heather yells over the commotion to me.

I nod and pull a jar from Flashwing's saddle bag, then pour its slimy contents onto the chains. They melt away as though they were never there and Windshear flies off, shaking the remains from her scaly reptilian body.

"What was that stuff?" Heather asked. "Changewing acid," I reply. "It can burn through pretty much anything."

"Thanks for the help, we can take it from here," she smiles, then Windshear loops around and blasts the ship a few times. "And let you have all the fun? Never," I retort, pointing to a few hunters. Flashwing ends them with her barbs.

"You know, you're not too bad at this," Astrid remarks to me, flying past on Stormfly. "I know their tricks," I shrug. "They're like cannonballs. All aim, no direction."

"Is there some kind of meaning behind that?" Heather asked, avoiding more arrows. "I mean that they rely on a clear target or someone to tell them what to do. If they don't have that, they crumble."

"And that helps us how?!" Snotlout screeches, narrowly avoiding a bola that was thrown at him. "Cover me and I'll take out the cannon," I reply. "Flashwing, solo."

Flashwing dives into the sea and resurfaces quickly on the other side of the largest ship. I scramble onto the deck. she quickly flies away again before she can be caught. I draw my sword and take out the closest hunters, making sure they go out silently.

Once they're dealt with, I make my way inside the boat, keeping my footsteps light. I hear a heavier set or two coming so I duck into into a corner. The moment two hunters get close enough I slice at them, then leave before I have to watch their heads roll.

I reach a door and press my ear against it to check nobody is inside. What I hear is two voices instead. Not wanting to miss out of what could be an enlightening conversation, I listen in.

"Are they here?"

"Yes, sir."

"How many?"

"Eight riders, sir."

"Is he with them?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good. Lure the Dragon Master in and capture him. Alive. Their knowledge will be invaluable to us."

"Yes, sir. The men are already on it, sir."

"Good."

I hurry out of the ship again, keeping as silent as possible. They knew I would come. They wanted to lure me out. They're trying to find out what I know, presumably about dragons.

I just put all the dragons in danger!

Once I'm back on the deck more hunters are surrounding me. It would be ridiculous to fight them all at once. Dragon fire hails down over them, but it only traps me in until the flames die down a little.

Once they do I hurtle over them and look around, ready for a fight. Most of the hunters were swarming the door so now I just need to get to Flashwing and I'll be fine.

Talons grab my shoulders and pull me upwards, though they don't belong to a Razorwhip. "If anyone is getting answers from you it's me," Snotlout states from atop Hookfang, smirking down at me and striking a dumb pose. I roll my eyes discretely.
