Meeting A Mate
The Morphwings all morph and fly off, save for my family and one female, who clings to Asher tightly. "I thought I was going to lose you," Asher breathed, hugging her. "Who's this?" I ask, though I can already take a guess.
"This is Adriana, my mate," Asher smiled. "Adriana, this is my little sister Indigo. She's the one we had to leave behind all those years ago."
"You're Indigo?!" Adriana questions. "Asher's told me so much about you! It's great to meet you!"
"Likewise, Adriana," I reply. "Now do me a favour and make sure you get that mate of yours out of here before he gets himself into any more trouble because clearly he doesn't care a bit about what I say."
"Oh trust me, I'm going to," Adriana smiles, then morphs and takes to the skies. Her scales have a slight tint of hot pink to them when they catch certain lights. I've come to realise that all Morphwings have a unique coloured tint to them.
Adriana roars at Asher, who nods and hugs me. "Stay safe, Indi. Don't hurt yourself," he says. "No promises," I say, causing him to chuckle, remembering an earlier discussion we had. He then takes Melanite and puts her on his back before Morphing and flying off with Adriana.
I mount Stylive and she dips downwards. Selene morphs before following. "Get out of here," I snap at her. "It's not safe. Especially for you."
She growls lowly at me, which gives me the idea to flinch back as though she scared me. She instantly stops and whimpers. "Go and I'll catch up with you in a minute," I tell her. "Please. I can't lose you guys again."
She slowly nods, accepting that she can't win this, and flies off reluctantly. I sigh in relief, then continue my work.
Stylive sets the ship aflame. The wooden contraption easily catches fire. It should be fully engulfed within the hour if it spreads well.
Pleased with my efforts, I move onto the next ship, freeing the dragons on board and then burning the place down.
Thankfully I come across no more Morphwings and the fleet is soon a raging fire on the ocean, prepared to leave no survivors. The moment I'm satisfied that I've done enough I join the Morphwings.
They're all still in the cover of the clouds as instructed. "If any of you want a bonfire, there's one down that way," I state, pointing in the direction of the fleet.
They all let out a roar of triumph before we make our way back to their island, keeping to the cloud cover in case of another wave of attack. Once we arrive Asher, Selene and Adriana morph into human form and come over to me.
"That was incredible!" Adriana gushes, running over to hug me. I mentally prepare myself not to instinctively draw my sword just as her arms wrap around me. "Thank you so much, Indigo," she says to me.
"It's my job, you have no need to thank me," I reply, slowly hugging her back. "Just don't go crazy about grabbing me in future. Ask your mate why."
"Oh, sorry," she quickly pulls away again. "It's fine, its not like you knew," I reply. "So what do you mean it's your job?" She questions. "Part of my job is taking out dragon hunters," I explain. "If they take out a dragon, I'll take out them. End of story."
"You seem exactly like the kind of person we could use around here," Adriana smiled. "So how about we have what humans call 'girl time'?"
"If it gets us away from Lord Vanity over there," I gesture to Asher. We both laugh at this description. "Let's fly then," she smiles.
"Sounds good to me," I agree, mounting Stylive. "Too young to morph still?" Adriana asks. "Still need a week," I confirm with a nod. "Hey, how does it feel to morph, anyway?"
"It's not a painful process," she replies. "First one will take a while to complete itself, but once that's out of the way you can do it quite quickly."
"Cool," I say. "Let's fly, then."
She smirks. "Try to keep up, Miss North," Adriana teases before she morphs. "Oh trust me, we'll be right with you," I reply, smirking myself underneath my mask.
Adriana takes off and starts flying. I give her a head start before pointing to her. "Stylive, fetch," I say. With a rawk of joy, Stylive jets off after her, quickly catching up.
Adriana looks over her wings, her eyes widening when she sees how fast we're going. I chuckle and manoeuvre Stylive next to her. "Try to keep up," I mimic her words before Stylive flies ahead.
Adriana roars indignantly at us. She says we're cheating, Stylive translates for me. "I'm not cheating, Stylive here is just fast," I say to Adriana, who looks surprised and roars again.
She thinks you can understand her, Stylive says. "Stylive's translating," I explain to Adriana, who nods in somewhat understanding.
We fly around a while longer until Adriana starts to tire out. Need a break? I ask Stylive. I could go on for years, Stylive replies, and to be honest she doesn't seem the least bit fatigued despite the fact that we've been flying around like crazy for at least an hour now.
"You need a break?" I repeat my question out loud, but this time I direct it to Adriana, who nods and dives downwards. Stylive follows her.
While Adriana morphs back into human form I dismount Stylive. "Good flight," I say to her. "I don't know how Stylive isn't tired as well," Adriana pants.
"Must be her training," I shrug. "She can go back-to-back eight-hour flights and still be ready for an attack. Found that one out the hard way."
"That's so cool!" She says, looking at Stylive in awe. "She really is," I agree proudly, patting my oldest partner's side. "All my partners are."
