Kicked Out... Again

Eventually I'm forced to give in to Hiccup and Astrid's demands when I'm tackled by two Night Furies and a Deadly Nadder, who all grab me and start moving, lead by Nightshade of course. "Nightshade, why are you helping them?" I demand, slightly annoyed.

He roars at me and gives me a gummy smile. "I don't care, this isn't funny," I tell him, though as usual he doesn't care. Soon we make it to the exit and I'm dumped outside while the doors are closed too fast for me to join the others. "Idiots," I mutter to myself and I get up and try the door.

Either this thing magically gained a brand new lock or they're blocking the door.

I sigh and just sit down, waiting for them to give up and let me back inside. They will sooner or later, I just know it. They can't keep me out forever... right?

The door suddenly opens and Stylive hurries out, using her tail to keep it open. I mount her quickly so she can take us back inside, but as we turn to get back in she shrieks. I instantly notice why.

Hiccup has decided that it's necessary for him to scare Stylive out with an eel. "You're sick!" I snap to him, petting a fearful Stylive. "You'll thank me later," he shrugs, though he's clearly not happy about this himself.

Stylive backs up and her tail moves away from the door long enough for Astrid to reach over and shut it, leaving us both outside while the others stay indoors. I groan in frustration.

"Fine! I'll be back by sunset and if I'm not then chances are I've been captured, killed or some other issue occurred. Either way, I was right about this!"

I pet a still trembling Stylive. "We're having a break today, girl," I tell her, pulling my mask up. "Let's get away from boys, from humans, from nasty eels... just you and me, just like old times."

Stylive eagerly takes off. "I know just the place for us to go," I tell her. "Fawnfall Island. You feel like it?" She rawks excitedly, knowing exactly which island I'm talking about. It's the island I grew up on until I turned fourteen. We have a long way to fly until we get there, but we've got all day and I want to make the most of it with my first partner.

I like to think of us as the originals, her and me. Then came Skyvolt, the Sentinels, the Night Terrors, the Cave Dwellers and Alpine when Skyvolt set us down on our new island. She took me there for a reason. I remember it like it was only yesterday.

We landed on a beautiful island that seemed untouched by humans, but I had little time to admire the scenery before I was picked up by dozens of little claws and pulled along in the air. I was dragged, screaming out of surprise, down a mass of tunnels that seemed to wind and spiral forever. I had no clue what was happening.

It wasn't until I noticed the icy cave that I realised what I was about to face. Sure enough, a large white Bewilderbeast loomed over me. I was dropped by the Night Terrors that had carried me here, but I didn't even notice.

The Bewilderbeast eyed me up and down, large icy blue eyes seeming to penetrate into my soul. Normally I'm not scared of dragons, but after that little skit with the Night Terrors I'm still a little shaken up. I start to back up slowly, not looking the enormous beast in the eye so I don't accidentally provoke it.

I'm held gently but firmly in place by slightly familiar claws and look up to see the Skrill. Her eyes have turned to slits, showing she's under the control of an Alpha. The Bewilderbeast must be the Alpha. That's why the Night Terrors brought me to them.

The moment I work it out I bow my head to the Bewilderbeast, showing respect. "You must be the Alpha around here. My name is Indigo Artemis North. My partner is Stylive." I show the Alpha the Deadly Nadder hatching that's curled up, somehow still asleep, around my neck.

"I don't wish harm to you or any dragons at all. I protect dragons. I will do so with my life if necessary. I am no threat to you."

The Alpha dipped their large head and sniffed at me. Stylive woke up at the feel of their cold breath and looked to the Alpha, then her jaw dropped. The Alpha gave a small smirk at that, then blew a few tendrils of frost at her, humouring her. She leapt off of my neck and started chasing the faint wisps. I keep my eye on her, but the other remains focused on the Alpha.

After a few more moments of sniffing at me, they straighten up and snort, covering me in snow. The Skrill releases me and starts moving towards Stylive, wings crackling with electricity, her eyes still mindless slits. "No.." I can barely whisper that one word.

"No!" I say it louder and run towards Stylive just as the Skrill fires. I curl my way around the hatchling protectively and feel something capture my back with a sharp force that knocks me over.

Stylive goes tumbling from my arms and across the ground, but she'll live. When I realise I'm still alive and not electrocuted, I slowly turn to the Skrill, putting myself between her and Stylive.

The ice wall separating us had taken the blast for me.

I look up to the Alpha, the great ice-spitter, who looks back down at me, expression unreadable. Their eyes hold great intelligence and wisdom, filled with stories fit to be told. I slowly take Stylive into my arms and keep her close to my chest, where I can keep her safe.

"I told you I would die for a dragon," I say simply, not meeting the Alpha's eyes.
