Hatching The Truth

Indigo's POV:

When I wake up again Asher, Selene and Melanite are all around me, waiting. Stylive is just behind them, keeping a careful eye on me. Camo is nowhere to be seen, so chances are he's hanging out on the wall or something. He loves scaling walls for some reason.

The memories that Camo resurfaced for me instantly slap themselves into the front of my mind. The memories of my father almost make me want to cry. I wish he was still here. I miss him.

But the memories of Selene and Asher make me so happy it's indescribable. They're my real family! I have a brother! I have a sister! I have a mother! They're all alive and with me right now!

I finally decide that I can really trust them since they're definitely my real family by blood and not just some cruel monsters trying to trick me. I sit up and look at the three of them, a smile on my face beneath my mask.

"You're finally awake!" Melanite cheers, licking my face. I laugh and lightly push her off of me. "What happened?" Selene asks me. "Camo helped check my memories for you guys," I tell her as well as Asher.

"Let's just say that I'm convinced you're my family now."

Their expressions turn to ones of glee. "That's great! What did you remember?" Asher asks. "That campfire I set up that one time, mostly, you were both there," I laugh, but then my mood turns more somber. "I also remembered dad and the day I realised you guys had left."

They look to me, also saddened at the reminders. "He was a good man, your father," Selene states. "A very good man. If only he was here today so he could see how much you've both grown and meet little Melanite just once."

"He died because of me," I say, hanging my head in shame. "I'm so sorry." "In the end, it was his own choice," Selene brushes me off. "Nobody forced him to step up, he did that of his own free will. At least you're safe, Indigo. That's all that matters. Never blame yourself for his death."

"I still do," I whisper. Thankfully they don't seem to hear me because they don't argue. "So what was it you wanted to show us?" Asher asks after a moment of silence.

I hesitate, nervous, but I don't back down. My hand slowly and shakily moves up to my mask, trembling. I close my eyes, gripping the fabric for dear life, before gently tugging it down.

I hear sharp intakes of breath and will my eyes to open again. I take in their shocked expressions. Selene reaches towards me and I flinch away at first, but after a moment allow her to cup my cheek in her hand.

"I trust you three," I say, my voice as shaky as my hand but still firm. "Don't make me regret it."

"Indi... what happened to your lip?" Selene asks in a hushed tone. I know what she means. There's a nasty scar on my bottom lip. It's been there for a long time now. It's there for life.

"When I was around seven or eight years old, Stylive was just a small hatchling," I explain. "We were practicing tricks and long story short I got a flaming spine right through my bottom lip."

"What?!" Asher growled at Stylive, who stared back at him, unfazed. "Relax, it was years ago and it was only an accident," I point out. "Indigo, you're physically scarred for life because of her!" Asher argues. "I can't just let her get away with that!"

"You're a decade too late for that, buddy," I snap, annoyed that he thinks he needs to rake over old ground. "It was sorted out ten years ago, so just drop it already."

Asher raises his hands in mock surrender. "Jeez, keep your hair on!"

Melanite nuzzles my other cheek. "I think you look pretty, Indigo!" "Thanks, sweetie," I smile to her. "At least someone thinks that."

"Indigo, thank you for showing us," Selene says, hugging me tightly. Asher and Melanite are quick to join in. I hug them all back, glad to finally be sure and know that they're my real family and that I have them with me right now.

"You'd most likely see at some point anyway if I'm being made to stay here for a month," I point out. "But it's nice to have you guys see. I'm glad you know."

"I'm just glad that you trust us enough to show us something so important to you," Selene smiled. I couldn't help but to smile back. Could this day get any better?

Indigo?

Yes, Alpha?

One of the Night Fury eggs are hatching.

What?!

If you're fast, I'll let you come and see.

I'm on my way!

My smile only widens. Finally! Another Night Fury egg is hatching! I can't wait to meet them!

"What's up?" Asher asks me. "My Alpha Just contacted me!" I explain, unable to keep the excitement out of my voice. "One of the Night Fury eggs are hatching! I'm allowed to go watch if I'm fast!"

"I wanna go see!" Melanite cheers, climbing onto my shoulder while I stand up. "Only if Selene says you can," I tell her. "She can go if you're happy to have her," Selene agrees. "Just be back here before dark, the both of you, and make sure you both stay safe!"

"We will!" We chorus. I quickly hug Asher and Selene before running out, Stylive following. I decide ride Stylive to the sanctuary so I can keep hold of Melanite. That and I have a trick up my sleeve to get us there extra fast.

"Fetch!" I tell Stylive. "Yay!" She screeches excitedly before zipping off towards the sanctuary at lightning speed. I laugh at her enthusiasm.

Melanite and I hold on tight as Stylive flies. I hug the baby dragon lovingly. I'm so glad I get to share this experience with my little sister.
