I Know Who I Am
Acnologia and Tyregenium crashed into the bonds of time and were separated. They tumbled into a valley that was surrounded by a huge amount of blue crystal spires.
Tyregenium snarled as he slowly got to his claws. He looked around and shook the rubble off him, Acnologia did the same. Tyregenium eyed Acnologia with hatred as they faced each other once again.
"You are foolish. You brought me to my world; I own this arena, not you!" Tyregenium laughed.
"If that was the case," Acnologia chuckled dangerously, "Then I probably would've been more cautious about jumping into this... but unfortunately for you; it's not."
The crystal spires around them shattered at Acnologia's words making Tyregenium jump.
"How so?" the elder dragon hissed trying to sound calm.
"This dimension may have been your home, but... It has always been my world. I devoured this magic and it merged with my own. This world... is mine."
Tyregenium laughed, it began as a quiet chuckle and then grew into roaring laughter.
'The damn bastard is laughing,' a voice in Acnologia's head growled.
'Something's wrong,' another voice growled.
'He's laughing, damn him!' the other roared.
'BE CAREFUL!' another voice warned.
"What's so funny?" Acnologia growled.
"You," Tyregenium laughed, "You are acting so confident but what have you really done?"
Acnologia's tail flicked angrily.
"So you got your little hatchlings to shed their skin for scales to give you an opportunity at victory and got me back in the bonds of time... but what have you really done? Oh yes, your hatchlings transformed but what does that mean? They'll lose some of their humanity; the more dragons they kill in cold blood the less human they'll become and what exactly are they doing right now? I know it's not feeling guilty about the corpses of dragons that lay behind them. Yes, you got me in the bonds of time. Yes, here you can beat me, but you can't kill me because my life force is tied to this place and so I will exist as long as time itself does."
Acnologia growled and his claws dug into the dirt. "You know for someone who talks so much, you sure don't think enough."
He knew the kids wouldn't be like him; because they weren't killing in cold blood. They were killing for each other - for their family and future. He gave a reassuring his growl and slowly his confidence returned.
With that, he lunged for his mentor. The two tumbled over the land, but Tyregenium noticed something; Acnologia was distracted. He grabbed his snout with his claw and forced it away.
"What are you planning my apprentice?" Tyregenium snarled.
Acnologia stayed silent, instead, he was reliving Anna's words. The instructions she had given him in her book. He could almost hear her voice.
"I know you tied Tyregenium's life force to the bonds of time and because of that, he is completely reliant on that dimension," Anna's voice instructed him.
Acnologia shoved Tyregenium off his face and bit into his master's shoulder.
"That means, that if you destroy the bonds of time, it is most likely that Tyregenium will die with it," Anna's voice explained.
Tyregenium snarled and clawed Acnologia's snout. Scales flew and Acnologia hissed as blood ran down his face. His other wounds were bleeding too and he knew that if it continued like this, Tyregenium would easily beat him. Acnologia growled and knocked Tyregenium to his back where he pinned him down for a moment and dug his claw into his chest.
"But... this is where it difficult," Anna continued. Acnologia could smell her scent, see her. She would be sitting on a large rock or fallen tree, her ankles crossed, her sun blonde hair hanging around her face waving in the wind. Her tongue would be sticking out as she wrote directions furiously and her large brown eyes would be sparkling with that determination that he loved. The very thought made his chest grow warm and all his fears disappeared.
"DIVISION!" Acnologia snarled jumping off of Tyregenium who tried to get to his feet quickly.
'I can handle this,' Acnologia's voice stated darkly.
'LEAVE IT TO US!' the other roared.
'We'll keep him distracted!' the last yelled.
Then, Acnologia was back in his world, on the battlefield. There were no other voices in his head, it was just him. He looked up through the smoke and could just barely make out the crack in the sky.
Back in the bonds of time, Tyregenium faced a very different dragon. The black and blue beast stalked towards him dangerously.
"What did you just do?" Tyregenium growled retreating slowly.
"DIE!" Acnologia roared lunging for Tyregenium. Then Tyregenium understood. Acnologia's humanity had left his dragon form. He had separated himself into two different bodies just as he had done in his past life, except it was reversed. Tyregenium faced the angered vengeful Acnologia who wanted nothing but destruction while Acnologia and all of his humanity stayed in the real world.
"I'LL KILL YOU FOR THIS MY APPRENTICE!" Tyregenium roared clashing with his apprentice's crueler self.
"WHAT'S WRONG MASTER! DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU'VE CREATED!" Acnologia's crueler half roared.
"You... you speak," Tyregenium muttered. He had assumed Acnologia's other half would have been nothing more than anger.
Acnologia's other half gave a cruel laugh and then attacked Tyregenium again.
Back on the battlefield, human Acnologia had begun writing magic circles. He had at least fifteen around him and was writing more.
"You see," Anna's voice instructed, "somehow, you need to ensure that Tyregenium is in the bonds of time. I fear that if he is physically outside of the dimension that he may find a way to tear his life away from the dimension... but if the dimension contains him, then there will be nothing he can do. "
Acnologia was sweating and panting, the amount of magic power in just one of the magic circles was enough to level a continent; there were now twenty of them. There was a roar as a dragon moved to attack him. Acnologia raised a hand and blasted the dragon into ash without even looking at him. The other dragons backed away knowing that they didn't stand a chance and Acnologia resumed his work trying to remember every magic circle that Anna had written down in detail.
"These magic circles should do the trick, but its all based on speculation," Anna had written. Acnologia smiled softly, he could see Anna's uncertain face. She would be holding her cheek in her palm and supporting herself with one leg if she had been there explaining it to him in the present.
"It's alright Anna," Acnologia breathed to the ghost in his mind, "I know what to do."
The magic circles Anna had provided wouldn't be enough to destroy the entire dimension of the bonds of time but Acnologia knew much more about that dimension then Anna ever could. But there was more to it... Much more to it.
Tyregenium hissed and ripped Acnologia's arm free of his body. Acnologia roared and clamped down on Tyregenium's wing ripping it clean off.
Acnologia gasped and held his arm; his other self wasn't doing too well, he could feel his pain. He finished the magic circle before him and went to activate it; then, he hesitated.
The bonds of time had allowed him to create this reality and... if he destroyed it. The reality he lived in now might disappear as well.
"DIE!" Acnologia's maddened self yelled. Tyregenium growled and the two clashed again, Tyregenium ripped into Acnologia's chest, Acnologia did the same.
Acnologia went to his knees as agony ripped through his chest and weakly he slammed the magic circle activating it.
If this reality did disappear and he was thrown back into his past life, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad. He closed his eyes as the magic circles began to glow giving off a blinding light.
Tyregenium looked around as the bonds of time began to crumble, "What did you do!?" he roared.
Then he realized the dragon before him was smiling. Acnologia's dragon half backed away and sat up.
"WHAT DID YOU DO!?" Tyregenium roared.
The dragon before him close its eyes and suddenly Tyregenium was facing three different dragons. All missing the same leg and covered in the same wounds.
One was pitch black, head to tail. The other was covered in thousands of tattoos, far more then he had possessed before, and the other was a bright neon blue.
"Does it pain you?" The dragon with the tattoos jeered leaning in.
"What is this?" Tyregenium murmured taking a step back.
"I am the Acnologia who could have been born if I cared for you master," the tattooed one stated, 'If I was truly loyal to you, this is what I would've become.'
"I am the beast you wanted," the black one hissed baring his teeth, "The attack dog you longed for."
"And I am what we should have been had you never entered our life," the neon blue dragon chuckled. "A CHARISMATIC DRAGON SLAYER!"
"What is this..." Tyregenium murmured again.
"This is the true power of the bonds of time," the tattooed dragon claimed.
"It possesses the power to show the different time-lines that could have been," the black one hissed.
The blue dragon grinned.
"No," Tyregenium choked looking to his now three opponents.
"The bonds of Time are being destroyed so for the moment, time is wild and anything can happen, beings from different times, different dimensions can be summoned," The tattooed one explained.
"That is why were emerged," the black one snarled.
"TO STOP YOU!" The blue one laughed getting into a fighting position.
"We will stop you from pulling any tricks. You will be trapped and then all time, save the one our original body exists in, will cease to exist. It is a fate we accept happily."
"And you with them."
"I will not be beaten!" Tyregenium roared.
"You don't have a choice!" the tattooed dragon roared.
And then the three pounced on the black and silver dragon.
Acnologia felt the time distortions and wondered what was happening.
"WE'LL STOP YOU!" the blue dragon yelled pinning Tyregenium down. The others helped.
The land began to glow a bright blue light and Tyregenium let out a terrified roar.
"This is for all the death you caused!" The black dragon roared.
"The lives you ruined!" The tattooed one hissed.
"THIS IS FOR ANNA!" the blue one roared.
"IDIOTS! YOU'LL DISAPPEAR WITH ME!" Tyregenium roared in desperation.
"That's alright," the tattooed one stated.
"We were not what made Acnologia, Acnologia... he did that himself, he made himself," the black one growled.
"WE ARE ONLY WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN!" the blue one stated forcing Tyregenium down again.
"Ain't that right... Acnologia," The black one chuckled looking to his two comrades.
"FOOLS!" Tyregenium yelled.
"It's time for you to die!" the tattooed one yelled.
"BEGONE TYREGENIUM! WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE AND ARE WILLING TO DIE FOR WHAT WE HAD!" the blue one yelled.
Then they were all immersed in a neon blue light and Tyregenium screamed his final words.
"NO!"
And then.... they were gone.
