The Problem

We flew in a comfortable silence for most of the rest of the way. I have no clue where they're dropping me off, but right now I don't really care. As long as they're not stupid enough to head to my own island, which I'm hoping they're not.

It appears they're even more annoying as they help me to Berk's forest. Heather pushed me a little roughly off of Windshear, apparently still not pleased with me unless that was her usual way of doing things. I hope her 'Beserker honour' was as binding as it sounded. I really can't say much about Heather or her loyalties.

Luckily I pull myself into a position to handspring back up while I'm falling off of Windshear. I'm already too low for it to really work, so I quickly substitute it for a single tuck roll that will prevent any harm.

When I've sprung back up at the end, I turn to look at Heather again. Everyone else is apparently doing the same thing. "You are strong, I'll give you that," I say, not wanting to get on her bad side at this point. Usually I wouldn't care, but right now I'm supposed to be weak and defenceless with them as my best hopes of getting back home.

My lack of retaliation causes the onlookers to return to their business. Whether they were actually worried or angry or anything or if they just wanted to witness us fight, I have no clue, but frankly it doesn't matter and even if it did I wouldn't exactly care either way.

"And you are crafty," Heather replies, then goes off to talk to Fishlegs. She'd better keep her word or else. Hopefully she'll consider the fact that I have no loyalties towards her and think twice about betraying what little trust I have for her.

"I hope you're happy to train a dragon to get you home," Hiccup says, coming over to me. "Unless you want to tell us where your sanctuary is so we can take you there."

"No," I say icily. "None of you are welcome there. I'll find my own way back. Thank you for the help."

He nods, smirking slightly as he knows I'm just putting on an act, then he walks off to Astrid. Eventually the others trickle away. I sigh in relief and lean against a tree, sliding down it to the grassy earth.

I just sit there for a while to make sure they're all gone before I leave. If any of them saw what I was capable of, I'd never hear the end of it. I morph the moment I'm sure I'm alone, then I fly off back to Morphwing Island.

I make sure I check that nobody is following me as I fly. That would go against the point of making sure Morphwings stay hidden. I eventually arrive in the caverns, tired. Maybe I'll rest up for a bit. Yeah, that sounds nice.

I enter Selene's cave, scuttling along. I hear giggling and feel a small weight perch on my back. "Melanite, are you here?" I call out, playing along. More giggling ensues, but she doesn't come out, so I start looking around. "Are you... in your nest? No... are you... on the ceiling? No... are you... on my back?"

As I say the third thing, I bring up my hind legs, causing her to slide down my back, across my head, then slip into her nest, laughing her adorable little head off. "Found you!" I announce, nuzzling her happily. "How are you, Melanite?"

"I'm bored, mummy made me have a nap!" She complained. I chuckled. She always gets hyperactive after her naps. "Will you play with me?" She asks. "Pwease?"

"Just for a few minutes, I think I need a nap myself," I tell her, unable to resist her cute little charm. "Yay!" She cheers, flying off. I follow her, making sure she's alright. If anything happened to her, Selene would have my head.

She starts flying around outside, just for the fun of it. I chase her, the both of us laughing. I let her think she's faster than me just to amuse her. I feel like a snail seeing as how slow I'm going. Yes, she's fast, but just for her age. Plus I've gone through a lot of physical training over the years, speed included.

In the end some of Melanite's friends come outside and start playing with her while their parents keep watch, so I decide to get that rest of mine. Finally.

I spend the rest of the afternoon sleeping, but Selene wakes me up for dinner. I've been doing the fishing rounds often to make up for taking up space, though Selene always claims she loves having me around. But this time she had to be the one to fish because I was nowhere to be found.

"I thought you'd left to go back to that sanctuary of yours!" She said, both of us morphing into human form so she could properly hug me. "Where were you?!"

"Dragon hunters," I give her the gist of the story. "They have dragon root arrows. Nasty stuff, even on Morphwings, apparently. They captured me, but I broke out. They're trying to find a dragon powerful enough to kill me so that they can take the sanctuary. Obviously they had no clue it was me that they'd captured."

"What?!" She's shocked and appalled. "That's it; no more trips out of the territory! This is getting ridiculous! I'm not risking my baby girl!"

"Until I leave, that's fine by me," I agree. "Um... Indi? Can we talk for a minute?" She asked nervously. "Of course," I nod, instantly alert as to what she's about to say.

"Well... I just... I don't want you to go back, okay?"

Her words catch me off guard. "I can't leave my pack," I point out, choosing my words carefully. "I need to defend them. Especially now that I know another threat is coming. I can get information that nobody else can, human or dragon, but I also have my whole life there."

"But what about us?" Selene says, looking upset. I realise she's right. They're part of my life now. I can't be so selfish as to ask them to relocate to the sanctuary; like I have my life there, they have their lives situated here.

What am I going to do?
