The Dove
There came a high and lonesome dove
Looking at the earth from up above
Headed east but the wind was blowin' west
After flying all night he was looking for some rest
Down below there were people
Building like he'd never seen
Knocking down trees and scraping the ground clean
So he moved on hoping for something more serene
He came upon an ocean
Poisoned by distress
Drowning in garbage and choked by all the rest
And the dove shed a tear resigned to reach his nest
But he was headed east and the wind was blowin' west
He saw two armies fighting
Fighting like he'd never seen
People killing one another in a bloody scene
So he moved on hoping for something less obscene
The twilight hid the lovers
Naked in the hay
But they cast off lights of love that split the gray
He slowed down to listen but they didn't have much to say
And he moved on thinking that things might be okay
There was a high and lonesome dove
Looking at the earth from up above
Tired of his journey and worn down by the stress
He was headed east but the wind was blowin' west
