Chapter 12

I dived forward and snatched the letter from his hand. He tried to grab it back so I held it tightly against my chest and climbed on the farthest corner of the bed. He sighed and I read the address aloud. He listened carefully and each word which I read made my heart skip in excitement and joy.

"Oh my god! This place is just three hours away from my city. How can this be even possible? It's a weird coincidence," I muttered and blinked in disbelief. I sat on the bed and Ted too sat beside me. He peeped into the letter. He looked up and asked, "Really?"

"Yes, your dad must be the manager of the textile mills over there since it's the office address," I said and he nodded. We did not talk for a while, instead we stayed silent. It was way too much information to sink in. I asked cautiously, "How is you dad over there while the rest of the family is here?"

He hesitated but then finally spoke in a soft tone, "Normal divorce between parents due to some indifferences. He always wanted to work abroad but mum wanted to stay over here. So eventually we parted our ways. They are still good friends though," He said and shrugged.

"Then from how long did you not meet him?" I asked. His Adam's apple bobbled and he said, "Five years."

I looked down at my feet sadly. I could never imagine how a family worked when the parents are divorced. Staying away from mum or dad and separating from Poppy, this thought itself made me overwhelmed with emotions.

"We were all busy in our lives and it was difficult to visit him. We were to celebrate each Christmas together but every year our plans got delayed." He got up and slid the letter into the drawer. He glanced at the letter and asked, "Can you send a letter to my dad?"

"I'll be glad but can't you just mail it? It sounds ridiculous to send him a letter on your behalf though he is just few hours away from my city. It doesn't makes sense unless.. you in person meet him," I suggested and he stared at me with such serious intensity. I squirmed under his gaze. He thought for some time and quickly shook his head. "No, we cannot just use the closet as a means of transportation and suddenly pop into my father's life."

"Come on man! Of course we can use the closet for whatever we like. We are blessed with it unlike other people and I reckon we should take full advantage of it," I said and he still looked unconvinced. He ran his hand through his blonde hair and said, "But what if he calls mum and talks to him about me being there. How would she react when she suddenly finds out that her son is not in Norway but in the States? They wouldn't really believe about the closet theory."

"Uh that's a major issue. Well you can - " I scratched my head and suggested, " - watch him from a distance maybe? I am sure he is worth the time. It will be fun and you will also be able to visit some new places. We can make the most use of our gift and live each moment of these winter holidays. Besides it's comparatively warm over there and you'll like it. Also you get to - "

"Okay, fine. We'll go tomorrow morning at around ten according to your city time. Your place is seven hours earlier than here so in a few hours we should leave," He interjected and I was mentally counting the time difference. It was so confusing since in northern Norway during winters it's dark most of the time.

"Yeah, then I should plan some arrangements and excuses to explain for our tomorrow's little trip. I should probably go now. Ta-ta."
