PART ONE
Legends and lore, fairytales, nursery rhymes and all in between ... have you ever wondered about the origins of such things. Are they complete fabrications? They must be ... or so one would think if they were so inclined. What if they are based in reality? Not necessarily our reality but some other? Perhaps then exaggerated and embellished over time but what if there is some sort of existence?
Perhaps other existences, either believed to be real or something otherwise, did or do exist and perhaps not directly within our own but maybe somewhere alongside ours. Imagine if such tales can be true, and they do live as freely as we do, then they indeed do not necessarily need to be of our world but of a world or worlds completely separate to ours as well as to one other.
Imagine if a world or a number of worlds whose tales and legends drift over time and space to seep into ours not only creating literature or film but bedtime stories too. Then imagine a possibility, if these other world can exist and do exist ... what if one or more where to become endangered ... then who, or where could they turn to for help?
One could imagine such help too may be something too difficult to simply just ask for ... it would have to be sought after in the hopes that what is needed will perhaps travel, occur and save the day ...
I am ... the devil in disguise ... I bring the evil to your lies ... listen, listen ... listen what I say ... my name is ... Morgan Fay.
'Ten years' Samuel thought to himself, ten years with which, in a way, have lasted a lifetime while also seemingly having passed all too quickly. Ten years of marriage with the love of his life that he would not trade for anything. A moment of quiet reflection can bring about so many things. There are some things however that just don't come so easy.
The one and only regret Samuel has, is the fact that he never got to treat his newly-wed of ten years prior to the honeymoon, the holiday of a lifetime, the very special vacation that should have followed their very special wedding day, though there is one thing from way back when, that just does not seem to fit. Samuel cannot quite place what that one thing is.
There had been ... something ... hadn't there? And whatever that something is ... it more than just seems to be missing.
This one thing which cannot quite be placed is kinda like having an amazing dream, a perfect dream in which you wake from with the knowledge that an amazing dream occurred though no matter how hard you try, you cannot remember a darn thing from that slumber of wonder. But there is more to it than that, so very much more in fact.
The honeymoon had come, it did happen, but it was more of an adventure rather than a lover's getaway. Adventure? Honeymoon? If either had happened, then why can't Samuel remember it? And if a honeymoon really did happen, if it had come then why would he think that there hadn't been one at all? Something just doesn't add up.
Delia deserved more, she deserved everything so Samuel always felt, and not just deserving of a perfect wedding vacation but as perfect a life as any life could be. And how he wished he could have given her that more, given her that everything, given her the perfect life, oh how he wished he had been able to give her every single bit of absolutely everything. If you'd be able to ask her though she'd say she did have everything she had ever wanted, everything she needed along with plenty more too, that is just how wonderful she was.
He, being Samuel of course, would do almost anything for her, maybe even if that came at quite the cost to him and maybe even to her too. Even now, ten years after the wedding, he would do anything for her, and yeah, he would do anything to get her back too.
There is that real strangeness however, a feeling that the elusive perfect dream may not have been so elusive at all. It may not have even been a dream at all. It may also be the reason why Delia cannot be consulted to on the quality of her time as a bride for she is not in the right here or in the right now.
Whatever came before, if anything at all, it may have been something in which she seeks a return to in some way, and in such an explanation for a disappearance could be offered. If only Samuel could remember.
All the signs are there. Clues are obvious, well maybe they aren't clearly obvious, interpretation just may be the key and that is if there even is a key at all. A key needs to be turned in order to open a locked door ... a door? Unlocking a door, why is there something familiar in that? Believing that there can be so much more to a dream is where it can all begin. Getting to such a place, if such a thing exists, is the thing.
Within a photo album that he has at the ready, an album that spans the past ten years and beyond there is a dried flower, a flower so unique that Samuel does not know what kind of flower it is or how it came to be within that album. It holds importance to him for some reason or another but why exactly it holds importance is unknown.
There is one photo in that photo album with which Samuel can recall absolutely nothing about. He does not know when it had been taken though if he had to place a time on it then he would imagine it to be maybe ten years old. Having no actual recollection of when the photo had been taken Samuel also does not know where it had been taken.
In this photo Samuel is caught in a loving embrace with Delia. The backdrop in this photograph is awesome, amazing even; it most definitely has a surreal look about it to say the least as if it were somewhere that could not possibly exist but does. Not only does the photo have all that but in the photo itself Delia is holding a flower, possibly the same flower that is now dried and in Samuel's possession. He removes the photo from the album and places it within his wallet.
Continuing to allow his mind to wander, Samuel remembers where it all began, a day which had begun as ordinarily as any other only to conclude as extraordinarily as any day, or night, could. A night club that no longer exists, a group of ten had been out a couple of hours by a particular moment in time. The outing had not begun at such a place but had come here all the same.
Sam and Delia were both part of this group of ten and were also unknown to each other prior to this night and prior to this particular moment. It had been their acquaintances, their shared group of friends that ensured they both were part of this group of ten.
Unbeknown to him, present day Samuel is on his way to unblocking that dream of his. His journey to get answers, and possibly his wife back, has begun. Remembering where it all began, remembering that night club and remembering the particular night in question are the first steps down along a path he has travelled once before, a path he is destined to travel again, whether he remembers or not.
The music in the club that night played loud and due to one distraction or another, a point in time came where Samuel and Delia were left alone, sitting across a table from one another. Sam had noticed her a couple of times during the evening prior to them being left alone but it was only when they were indeed left alone that Delia's beauty came calling, hitting Samuel like a brick hurled straight at his face.
'What? ... Have you never seen a girl before?' she speaks in response to his stares, speaking loud enough to ensure she would be heard over the music.
'Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ... err ... to, ya know ...' he speaks becoming somewhat fidgety, speaking almost as much with his hands as he does with his voice.
'... Appear like a lost puppy?'
'... Yeah, that would work ...' a smile on his face grows uncontrollably, a contagious smile at that too.
Samuel was sold. He was hooked. This young lady before him, she has to be the one, she is the one. Ever have a revelation and know that the moment you are in has a touch of this is it about it, a kind of this is it, this is destiny calling me out? Fate is knocking at your door. To further this feeling that perhaps fate was indeed intervening, as soon as Delia spoke her lost puppy sentence the music changed. The heavy fast paced dance music mixed along with the odd nostalgic rock tune which had been pumping through the speakers up to now completely slowed, becoming soft and gentle.
'Would you ... perhaps you would ... maybe like ... to ...?'
'What? ... Dance with you?'
'Em ...'
As far as Delia had been concerned, she had no intentions of dancing with Samuel or anyone else for that matter but the smile that took a hold upon his face after she finished his question led her to think 'what the hell? Why not?' Sure, hadn't the smile been contagious? She stood and he was slow to move so she took him by the hand and led him to the dance floor. The rest as they say is history.
What Samuel wouldn't give to go right back to that moment in time, just to have that first dance all over again. Just fifteen months after that first dance, fifteen months after that first evening in each other's company, Samuel and Delia were married. After the marriage came to pass, did something unusual come their way?
Had some kind of a special opportunity come knocking, so to speak? Was there really ever a mystery? Is there a dream to be remembered at all? This door thing too, what was it? Those are the questions. Will they ever be answered?
Only now, ten years after the wedding, a memory returns. There was a man at the wedding reception who also just so happened to be at that night club fifteen months earlier, he was there the night of that first dance. This man came to both Samuel and Delia the morning after the wedding reception; well, it was more a moment of Sam questioning this stranger for that stranger had something to say. Why Samuel is only just remembering this so long after it occurred? This is something he doesn't quite understand.
