Beefy

"My goodness..." Delilah closed her eyes and savored the flavor of the hamburger, "This is by far the second best tasting meat I have had all day."

Donovan laughed as he and Delilah sat out on the deck to eat dinner. It was a gorgeous night out and the setting was perfect.

"So, tell me a little about your wedding planning business," Donovan said, "I am under the impression you and Millie started it years ago when you were still in college together?"

"Oh, yes! I absolutely love planning weddings," Delilah said, "It's such a fun time. Mostly after the two of us plan, Millie stays the planner for the day and I take on the photography task."

"Have any crazy stories you care to share with me?"

"Plenty!" Delilah nibbled on a fry, "I have had horrible toasts, brides left at the altar, grooms left at the altar..I even caught the best man with the bride one time!"

"Oh, that's awful!" Donovan scowled, "I would have been mortified."

"What's worse was that he was the groom's brother!" Delilah shook her head, "I was appalled and couldn't bring myself to tell the groom so Millie did for us. It was sad."

"Do you ever keep in touch?"

"Only with a few like ones who are from the area or my own friends and family," she replied, "I...we..well, Brett and I had a nice wedding. It was small, but it was nice."

"And...did you plan it?"

"What do you think?" Delilah laughed, "Everyone thought I was pregnant because we got married so young, but we were in love and that's what matters, right?"

"Melanie and I had a pretty small wedding," Donovan told her, "In Vegas, actually."

"You eloped?"

"Yep," Donovan chuckled, "For no real reason except that we wanted to."

"That even sounds romantic, to be honest," Delilah swooned, "I have planned extravagant weddings and I have planned very tiny weddings—even a reception with one at our courthouse."

"If you were to marry again, what type of wedding would you have?"

Delilah thought about it, gazing up at the sky where the sun was setting.

"I'm pretty simple, but I kind of want a big wedding," Delilah grinned, "I want to feel like a princess."

"A Queen, you mean.."

"Or a Queen," Delilah blushed, "I don't want to sound like I wouldn't be happy with a little ceremony because I would, but I would love to have a wedding that I probably can't afford."

Her laughter sent a sensational chill down Donovan's spine. He hoped that for her, too.

"The dating scene is low in Salem, though," Delilah shrugged, "I feel like I either know the men through Brett or school."

"What's your type?"

Delilah froze. She wanted to say it. She wanted to look him dead in the eye and tell him, but they barely knew each other.

"Me?"

"What?" Delilah shuddered, "Oh...I...uh...you?"

"Yes, would I be your type?"

Delilah smiled, her entire body trembling as she averted his gaze.

"I mean, if I got lucky then I'd probably snag a man like you, Donnie.."

She felt so stupid after saying it—of course, he didn't feel that way about her! He could get any woman he wanted. Why would it be her?

Besides, he was leaving...

"Snag a man like me?" Donovan took a sip of his tea, "You are a gem, my Queen. I would...I want you to know that I.."

A buzz startled them both and Donovan looked at his phone.

"Oh, excuse me. It's my business partner in Dubai," Donovan said as Delilah smiled, waving him on.

"Stop this, Delilah!" Delilah mumbled to herself as Donovan escaped to the confines of the house, "This is just friendly sex. There's nothing here..."

"Yes, Pate! I was wondering when you'd call," Donovan chirped into the phone, "Yes, I am still a go for Tuesday..."

He watched her through the window as he stood in his kitchen. She looked so beautiful, so worthy of all the love in the world.

"Good!" Pate answered, "We're looking forward to you showing up and reeling these big wigs in. Hey, Les told me you've got a little piece back home."

Donovan sighed, "Good ole Les...he's not wrong, though.."

"Wait! Wait! Wait!" Pate chuckled, "You're telling me this isn't just some woman you're screwing? I mean, word has it she's at your home....YOUR HOME, DON!"

Donovan sighed, "Yes, she's staying the weekend."

"Oh, fucking hell...you caught the god damn love bug, you ole son of a bitch!" Pate squeaked into the phone, "Is she hot?"

"I'm going to hang up now, Pate," Donovan smiled, "And yes, she's more than that.."

"Yep..I fucking knew it," Pate sighed, "The last one has pulled at those heart strings, eh? Shit, why're you coming here then?"

"Because it's my job, Pate," Donovan laughed.

"Oh, so you aren't denying some sort of feelings for this,-"

"I will see you next week, Pate," Donovan said before saying goodbye.

He hung up and kept his gaze on Delilah who was now staring up at the night sky.

"Well, how the hell am I supposed to leave you now?"
