Chapter 20

Leafy dashed through the forest, trying to find the mansion. "It has to be here..." She mumbled, glancing around the forest. The mansion seemed to be hidden away.

"Firey!" She called out, continuing forward. She was unsure if he would hear, after all...not once had he left the mansion while she was there.

Without warning, she tripped over something. Before she could stand up, the thing wrapped around her leg, dragging her across the ground.

She yelped, bumping into a few twigs and rocks. This went on for a few moments, before she heard a door close behind her. The thing around her leg lifted her into the air.

It took her a moment to adjust, but as soon as she did, she gasped.

Firey was glaring at her.

"Why did you leave?" He asked, looking away slightly. Leafy nervously glanced around. "I don't even remember leaving..." Firey sighed in frustration, clenching his head.

He mumbled to himself for a moment, before the thing holding her in the air snapped. She gasped, closing her eyes, and bracing for impact.

It never came.

Leafy slowly opened her eyes, feeling her heart race faster. Her eyes widened, as a green aura was seemingly holding her in the air. Her eyes wandered to Firey.

His hand was in the air, emitting the green glow. He stared at Leafy, slight tears in his eyes as he stared at her in fear. "I don't want to be alone anymore!"

Firey lowered her to the floor, before clenching his head again. "Why did I ever let you leave in the first place?!" He asked himself, turning away from her.

Backing away slightly, Leafy felt odd. It was like her emotions were mixing together, into an indescribable concoction. Firey whipped back around, making her flinch.

"What is it going to take?!" He stepped closer to her. "Did I choose wrong?! Is this not your friend?!" He asked, and she began to notice a slight accent slipping through.

Leafy looked to the side. The door was firmly shut. "What did I do wrong?!" Leafy looked back at Firey, as his arms lowered back to his sides.

As tears fell down his face, his expression fell slightly. "...Or are you even looking for friendship...?" He asked, as his body went limp.

She gasped, quickly rushing over to him. "F-Firey!" Leafy shook his body gently, before lifting him up. As she was about to take him to the couch, a door swung open.

Nervously turning around, she nearly dropped Firey, once she saw a familiar face.

Her girlfriend.

She looked like one of the dolls, every feature of her body gray. Holding her friend close to her, Leafy backed away from the doll, scared.

"I can be whoever you want!" Taco said, stepping closer to Leafy. She shook her head in confusion. "W-Wait..." Leafy mumbled. "Firey?"

The Taco doll nodded, smiling, revealing the tooth gap Leafy knew her friend had. She stood there, frozen. Her face paled slightly, as he approached her.

Leafy tried to process how it was possible, while he continued to talk in Taco's voice. "I fill the void, any void!" He said, as she backed away.

"I can be your girlfriend, boyfriend, whatever!" He said, backing Leafy into a corner. "If a friendship isn't what you're looking for..."

He knocked the Firey doll out of her hands, grabbing them with his own. "I can do romance! Just stay..." Leaning his forehead against hers, he frowned.

"...Please stay..."

Leafy tried to stay calm, as she thought. It was difficult to think, however. Her mind was buzzing with fear and confusion. Firey had just switched bodies with another doll.

Taking a deep breath, she gently squeezed his hands. "...Firey." She started, as he smiled. "Yes?" He replied. Leafy glanced to the side.

"I think we should invite them for tea." She said. Firey's breath hitched, and he squeezed her hands, shaking. "What?" He asked, looking at her.

Leafy could feel her anxiety rise. "I'm sure if we explain the situation...everyone will see that you aren't a threat." She calmly explained to him.

Firey let go of her hands, backing away slightly. He dropped to the ground, and the Firey doll sprung back up. He glared at the ground, clenching his head.

"What don't you understand?!" He almost screamed, turning away from her. Leafy nervously stared at him. "B-But-" Firey whipped back around, glaring at her.

"THEY LOCKED ME IN HERE FOR A REASON!"

Leafy yelped, her eyes snapping shut again. A few moments of silence passed. She flinched back when she felt a hand touch her shoulder.

"I'm sorry...I'm sorry..." Firey spoke softly. "They're going to take you away...I'm not allowed to have friends, Leafy." She opened an eye, and he attempted to put a hand on her shoulder again.

"Then let's talk this out with them." Leafy said, opening the other eye. She stood up, bringing her hands back down to her sides. Firey covered his face in frustration.

"Fine. I guess I'll have to prove it to you." He snapped his fingers, as four emerald green ribbons descended from the ceiling. Leafy gasped, backing into the wall again.

Firey glared at the door.

"You want to have tea with them? Then let's throw one hell of a tea party."
