Chapter 18

Taco hid behind a tree, nervously glancing around. Once the lights had turned back on when Leafy ran away, Four explained everything to her.

Needless to say, she was pissed off. When Needle came to tell them where Leafy was, Taco immediately took off. She wasn't going to let her girlfriend be trapped by this psycho.

As she waited for a moment, she realized it was clear, and quietly tip-toed over. However, she didn't realize Pin was there. Taco knelt down beside Leafy, smiling slightly.

"It's okay, I'm here now..." She told her unconscious girlfriend with a hushed tone. "Let's get you somewhere safe." Before Taco lifted Leafy into her arms, she held her hand.

That was when Pin stepped out from behind a tree. "What are you doing?" She asked, shocked. Taco blinked. "Holding my girlfriend's hand?"

Pin flinched in shock, her mouth hanging wide open. "You're...dating her?" Taco glared at her slightly. "Yeah? No one knew about us, until now." She said.

Pin shifted uncomfortably. "I know this probably isn't the best time to mention it, but Leafy is a thief." Taco scoffed at her. "And how many years ago did that happen?"

They were both silent. Pin glanced to the side, sheepishly avoiding eye contact. "Taco. Everyone hates her..." Taco stood up. "And that's your justification why I shouldn't love her?!"

Pin glared back at her. "How do you think I feel?!" She raised her voice. "She was my best friend! I didn't stay angry like the others!"

Taco's glare turned into a surprised look. "...what...?" Pin covered her face, turning away. "Everyone hated her...and then there was me."

A few moments of silence passed. "Anyone who even showed the slightest bit of regret for running Leafy off was shunned until they said they hated her."

Pin thought back to those days. "Of course I was quick to forgive her, we had known each other before BFDI even started!" Pin turned back to look at her.

Her eyes wandered to Leafy, still unconscious on the ground. "But I couldn't let anyone know. And...overtime...I believed I hated her."

She frowned. "When I saw how scared she was...how helpless she seemed...it made me remember when we were kids." Taco stared at her, shaking her head slightly.

Pin shivered. "Someone was guiding her. I saw it." Taco stepped closer to her. "What did you see?" She asked. Pin looked at her, a slightly scared look on her face.

"I'm not even sure. It was so faint, like it wasn't even actually there!" Suddenly, an unfamiliar noise interrupted the two girls, and they froze.

Turning to look at Leafy, she was starting to stir awake. She sleepily sat up, rubbing her eyes. Taco approached her, sitting beside her. "Hey..."

Leafy gasped, tensing slightly. She stared at Taco with widened eyes, trembling. Taco gently raised her hands. "It's okay...I would never hurt you."

For a moment, Pin felt odd. The feeling grew stronger, when Leafy's tense shoulders dropped. She stared at Taco, still a bit unsure.

However, she slowly rose one of her hands up, and intertwined it with one of Taco's. Tears slid down her face, as her arm shook slightly.

"W-Why..." Leafy stuttered. "I f-feel like...I-I know this p-place..." She sniffled. Taco offered her a reassuring smile. "It's okay..." She told her in a soothing tone.

Taco paused for a second, thinking. "It's a lot prettier when the sun is out." She quietly chuckled. Leafy glanced at the waterfall, feeling an odd, but familiar nervous energy wash over her.

"...Something is...m-missing..." Leafy thought out loud, staring at the waterfall with a confused expression. Subconsciously, she scooted closer to Taco.

"I-I feel like m-my heart is about t-to beat out of m-my chest..." She admit, unknowingly leaning her head against Taco's side.

Pin shook her head slightly, covering her mouth. She felt like she was seeing a memory, a very personal one. Guilt and frustration burned away in her stomach.

She knew what was going to happen next.

Taco wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into a hug. "I think I know what might be missing." She said. Leafy looked up at her.

"Leafy, I have to tell you something."

Leafy's eyes flashed with realization, as she gasped slightly. "You...can tell me... anything..." She mumbled, as Taco held her hands.

"Leafy...I love you..."

Everything went quiet. The silence turned into a tense moment, as Leafy didn't say anything. Taco frowned, looking away slightly. She thought it would work...

"You...You forgot."

Taco quickly turned to face Leafy. "What?" Leafy stared at her, a confused expression on her face. "You forgot the part where we did this."

Before Taco could question her, Leafy leaned in.

She gently kissed Taco.

Taco gasped slightly, before kissing back, tears rolling off her face, as she hugged her girlfriend. After a minute, Leafy broke the kiss, glancing at the surroundings.

She glanced at Taco, confused. "How did we get here...?" She asked, as Taco smiled through her tears. Leafy gasped, as her confusion turned into concern.

"Taco, are you okay?!" She asked, wiping away her tears. Taco laughed, pulling Leafy closer to her. She gently caressed her face, planting a kiss on her cheek.

"I'm better than okay!"
