The Day The Dragons Descended On Me

In a wooden house near the woods, lived a family a four. A mother, a father, and two infants located in a field of grass, far away from any town that surrounded them, secluded in a remote location that was easily visible to the naked eye. It stood out as the only house in the area. However, a forest to the south of the house was nearby and was one of the regions where the father goes out hunting easy prey. This family was not a normal one by any chance. After a series of events that led to nothing but havoc, the family decided to flee. After having their first child, the family moved from one location to the next, hoping for a quiet life, away from the watchful eyes of evil. However, the past always caught up to them. Eventually, the family vanished, not leaving a single trace. After discovering the means of traveling between worlds, the family started life anew in an uncharted land, away from humanity.

Not long after arriving, the mother would soon give birth to another infant. A boy she and her husband named Justin. She wished to raise her children in this new world without the need to fight for their life every single day. Everything was peaceful and splendid for the family, living a normal life in a house built by their own hands. Secluded, silent, and peaceful. It was a dream that became a reality.

On a fateful night, thundering roars filled the sky. The ground shook intensely and plates that the mother had cleaned shattered on the ground. Awakened by the noise and shear horror in their hearts, the family rose from their beds and headed to the living room to look outside. Justin's mother looked through the window and saw something that would haunt her memories for the rest of her days. Shaking, she took a few steps back and grabbed the children, holding them in her arms as tight as she could.

The father, unable to believe what he saw in the starry sky, held his crying wife's shoulders. "Hide." Was all he said before he took off to another room.

Four colossal dragons circled over the tiny house. The enormous dragons could be spotted by the naked eye with ease due to their sheer size and overwhelming presence. One of these dragons was wrapped with lightning all around him. Another was red and engulfed in blazing fire. The third was white and glowing with bright colors in certain areas around his head, horns, claws, and tail — Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, White, and many more. The last one was gold in color and glowing brighter than the stars.

The dragons were colossal and struck fear into the heart of the two parents, especially after the mother realized that the mythical creatures were circling the very house she resides in. The terror made the mother unable to move and she stood in front of the window, helplessly watching as four creatures of divine origins targeted her and her family.

'Is... Is this divine punishment?!' The mother asked herself as tears fell from her eyes. 'D-Did we enrage the gods by moving to another world?!'

The dragons landed down, surrounding the house. Justin's mom started screaming and crying for her life, having fallen on the ground by the sheer force of the landing that shook the entire foundation of the house. The father arrived a few seconds later, with a long sword that was gold and red in color. The sword glowed with an intense blue magical aura. The father is a master martial artist and swordsman. He planned on passing his knowledge and expertise on his children, but the colossal dragons had other plans in mind.

"Protect the children. This is not gonna end well." He said before taking a deep breath and gripping his sword like a noble warrior, ready to die in the name of his family. In his mind, he knew he could not stand up to the divine beings, but nothing is stronger than the love this man harbors towards his wife and children.

The ceiling went flying off as the dragons tore it off the house with ease like a paper ripped out of a notebook. The four dragons stared down at the horrified family, but their eyes were fixed on the wife and the children. Justin's mother held her children tightly in her arms and hid under the kitchen table. The dragons' eyes followed the mother as she went into hiding, seemingly focused on her rather than the sword-wielding father. They did not roar, attack the man, or even give off a menacing stare. Instead, they looked calm and simply stared at the table, ready to remove it at any second. Seeing the creatures focused on his family, the warrior readied his sword and pointed it at them.

"You won't hurt my family!" Justin's father shouted. "I will proudly sacrifice my life if it means their safety!"

All of a sudden, he started to hear an otherworldly voice speak inside his head. A voice that was so deep and overwhelming that the father had to put a hand on his head. "The dragons of yore doth not intend to harm thee or thy family. The newborn child, thy secondborn hath been chosen by the light. T'is a blessing bestowed upon thy infant by the will of the fallen deity of war. Defy his fate if you must, but knoweth that thy efforts will all be in vain." The voice spoke.

"What?!" The father asked. "Who's talking in my head?!"

With a simple movement of his finger, the red dragon pushed the father away and propelled him to the kitchen, where he hit the wall and fell on the ground. The mother looked around her in a state of uncontrollable panic. She looked left and right, desperately trying to find a method of escaping. It was evident for her that it would be impossible, but she was ready to do anything for the safety of her children. It is her wish to shield her offspring from her and her husband's past. The parents fought against myriad enemies to protect themselves that they both became battle-hardened. But after the birth of her children, the mother became soft and caring. She became less of a fighter and more of a mother. However, her resolve to keep her children alive is stronger than ever.

She looked down on them and started rocking her arms back and forth and smiled. Seeing her children brought ease into her soul as she relaxed and took a deep breath before humming to her children, who ceased weeping as soon as they heard her voice. "Everything will be okay, my children. Mommy's here, and she will not let anything happen to you..." She said in her soft, tender, and loving voice. She then kissed her sons on their foreheads. "I will keep you safe, no matter what."

She then looked at Justin and smiled, seeing her little baby boy with his eyes closed, opening them for a brief moment before closing them again. She smiled at his blue eyes that looked unbelievably gorgeous, unlike any other eyes she has seen before. "Justin... I'm still weak, but I promise... I won't allow any harm to befall you. Remember that, my little angel."

The table she was under was slowly and carefully raised over her. She looked up only to see that the dragons' eyes were fixed on her and her children. The otherworldly dragons merely stared at the children without making a single sound and the mother looked back at them in utter fright.

"Please... Leave the children out of this..." The mother pleaded, her tears falling out of her eyes, knowing that there was nothing she could do. No act of desperation would be enough to save her, but her children are innocent and do not deserve to be punished for wrongs they did not commit. "Punish me if you must, but spare Maximus and Justin... I beg you..."

Her husband was unable to move his legs as the red dragon gently placed his claw on them, immobilizing the man. He tried to push the claws off of him or try to pull his legs out, even going as far as stabbing the claw with his sword. However, the dragon felt none of it. There was a brief moment of silence. Only the breathing of the mother and the children could be heard, alongside the grunts and screams of the father. He shouted at his wife to run, but he knew that there was nowhere she could go.

"Don't rob them of the chance to live," The mother cried. "They are not at fault for anything. I may have committed many wrongful deeds, but the children... they..." She paused to weep, knowing that they did not get the happy ending they dreamed of. But her heart was shattered that her children will have to experience the same end and will not get to live. "They did no wrong!"

The golden dragon moved his claw and carefully pushed the mother away. Her children fell from her hands as she got propelled into the distance. Justin then started levitating in the air and got gently placed on the back of the golden dragon. Seeing her firstborn on the grounds weeping, she ran to him and held him in her arms before looking around her for the child she recently gave birth to. "Justin?! Justin!" She cried, but she could not see or hear her baby. But when she looked at the dragons, she watched as her son got taken away by the mythical creatures. She could not understand it, but she felt the grief and sorrow of the creatures as her son landed on the back of the golden one. She sensed pain within them but did not understand why they felt that. Do they actually feel her grief? Do they understand what it means for a mother to be separated from her own child? These were all questions going through her mind.

"My son... Where... Where are you taking my son?!" The mother cried, feeling like a piece of her was taken away. She was then overwhelmed with a sense of shock when the four dragons bowed down to her, seemingly apologizing.

Suddenly the sky was split apart and a golden light came down on the house from above. All four dragons took to the sky, disappearing into the blinding light that illuminated the house and the house alone. When the light vanished, neither Justin nor the dragons were anywhere to be seen.

"JUSTIN!" Yelled his mom.

Justin's father got on his feet and looked around him, confused. He was not able to discern what was happening in the other room and only heard the screams and yelling of his wife. When he ran to the other room, he saw her crying and looking up at the sky. He noticed that she only held one child in her arms and it was not Justin, his second child. Staying true to the voice's words, the giant dragons took Justin and flew away, never to be seen again. The four dragons just robbed the family of their newborn and left.

"Honey... W-what happened to our son?!" She asked, screaming her words.

"They... they took him..." He said. The mother then continued crying as she held on to her remaining son, who was weeping as well.

"I... I heard a voice. It said that Justin is chosen..." The father revealed but stopped. He did not understand what the disembodied voice meant by what it said, but one thing was clear to him. Justin, his son that was just born, will never be seen again.

"What?! What kind of bullshit is this?! Chosen? Chosen to do what exactly?!" The mother cried. "My son! My baby boy! I barely just got to see his beautiful eyes! It has not even been a day!"

"It is most likely punishment for the sins I've committed... We shouldn't have left... We shouldn't have left..."

The father collapsed on his knees and looked at the sky.

"But why?! Why did you have to punish me like this?!" He screamed at the sky. "Why did you take my child?!" The father of the missing child slammed his fist on the ground repeatedly, having lost something more valuable to him than his own life.

"This... Cannot be..." He got back on his feet and trudged slowly towards his wife on the ground, cradling her remaining son in her hands, fearing to let go.

"What should we do now?" She asked. The father remained silent.

"I... We can only hope he returns to us..." He said.

"But when? How?"

"One day... One day for sure..."

"B-But what if he did not recognize us by then? What if he doesn't choose to come back?!"

"I... I don't know..."

The man looked at his wife, his grief overshadowed by his determination. With his hands holding her shoulders, he caught her attention. The tears that fell from his wife's eyes only filled him with more determination and strength. "But I promise you. No matter what happens, I will find him. Even if it takes me years or even decades, I will find Justin. I promise you."

A faint smile found itself on her lips. "I know."
