Chapter 2: A Helping Hand-Monique
When my family moved to Springhill, Britain from Paris, France, I didn't expect to make friends right away. But I expected to make friends eventually. Well, I have proved myself wrong. I have no friends.
I thought Isabelle might be nice to me, since her family also moved from France when she was young. Her parents changed their names so they would fit in, but names can't change your heritage. But it turns out her best friend was Elizabeth Pendlebury.
This is why I was very surprised when Isabelle approached me in Period 1, April 30th, 1953. She explained in a hushed voice about the disappearances and what she and Elizabeth were trying to do. Finally she got to the most important part.
Isabelle to a deep breath and said to me, "So Elizabeth and I were wondering if... You might like to... Lend us a helping hand?" I sucked in a breath.
They had never in my life asked me for even the smallest thing, not even a a pencil. This is why I said, "Sure!". Well that, and the fact that I loved mystery books.
"Alright. Meet us in our room at 6:30pm tonight. This paper has our room number and a couple more important things on it," Isabelle was saying, handing me a price of paper. I just nodded. I wasn't sure how to respond.
"Make sure no one overhears us," Elizabeth told us carefully, coming up next to Isabelle. "We don't want anyone to know about what we're doing."
