Insanity Strikes

A/N: Okay fair warning. This chapter took forever by my standards and actually left me really freaking emotional. That never happens.

Have fun!

Gameknight999 could barely keep his eyes open, so when Hunter, Herder, and himself emerged from the forest, he almost wondered if he was dreaming- no having a nightmare.

Nightmarish creatures were attacking the gates of the village. They appeared to be villagers with sickly pale skin, carrying cross bows and axes. The makeshift repairs seemed to be holding up on the village gates, but who knew for how long.

Pain ripped through him and he could have sworn he'd heard a rip! before his knees gave out and he tumbled to the floor. He didn't hit the ground though- something else happened.

Everything disappeared around him- and it wasn't just dark. There was nothing there. Then something else disappeared- or wait what was- how a- what do you call- something- almost-what-

Panic set in. Nothing made sense and nothing was there- or maybe everywhere? Gameknight couldn't differ right from left nor forward from back, and knowing something was amiss sparked a fear like no other. Terror held him in an iron fist, but then something else changed. There was a shift. Something held reason, but there was something in front of... whatever. Looking down, he saw nothing but a cloud of numbers and dull white light. Somewhere in that swarm, for a moment, he saw two beacons of white, but they came and went so quickly he must have imagined it. Looking up (down?) a scene presented itself. A series of figures sat in front of him. One was a girl with long, curly red hair, her back to him (?) and there was another, much smaller one standing to the side with hair similar in length, but black hair, which was slicked to his head. To to the smaller one, a creature sat growling, posed for attack next to the child. Something seemed wrong, but 1001001110 couldn't figure out what. His attention was drawn to a new figure that had appeared, one that look similar to (him?) but was surrounded by a cloud of numbers. Strangely, those numbers were different-less noticeable. Almost as if they weren't there at all...

Something shifted again, and loud noise began to fill 1001001110'0 ears. A strange, uncomfortable sensation shot through the cloud, but something else drew his attention. The strange figure was moving and the girl was firing her bow, but the arrows were missing. They were going though the numbers and doing nothing to slow down the threat. Why was she missing? Something about her seemed familiar- she was.... a... marksman? No.... not...

One arrow whizzed past the nullifying creatures head and then things went wrong. Jumping to the side, he surged forward, the world moving in slow motion. His sword cut gracefully through the air with his arm out stretched, almost as if he was going to slice it through the-

Something snapped. And clicked. The marksman. The girl. The figure.

A word formed.

"No."

The world began to speed up. The girl took a step back and kept firing. Sweat slipped down her neck and something sparked in her eyes. Fear.

"N-NO!"

Something was happening to 0am1kn1g0t. Things were wrong and right at the same time. He was moving. Forward. And he knew that.

"Hunter, MOVE!" Gameknight yelled, and suddenly he was there, in front of Null, in front of the blade. Surprise flickered across Null's face at his sudden appearance, but the blade slid into Gameknight's abdomen at the sudden speed up. Something was wrong here, however.

Very wrong.

Numbers surrounded the entry wound, where the wound was so deep , the sword was fully sheathed at the start of his chest. It kind of reminded him of what happened earlier when the sword went through him, but this time, it was kind of like he wasn't even there. He stepped to the side and his body dissolved around the sword, only to reform once he was separated from it.

Weird. And also worrying.

Gameknight looked up and jumped on Null, pushing him back a few steps. He tried punching him, but even when he connected, his fists were only solid enough to do anything less than half the time. The surprise of the attack however seemed to catch Null off guard. He stumbled back and nearby fell on his bum, only to teleport away at the last second. Gameknight scanned the area before him but saw nothing. Turning, he went to check on the others.

"Hey, guys wh-" his eyes landed on the scene before him.

He could only muster up one thought in that moment. No. Nononononononono.

Hunter was laying on the floor, curled up into a ball. Herder was at her side, worry heavy on his face. His wolf sat at her side, head down. Hunter was slowly flashing red, over and over, loosing more and more HP by the second.

Gameknight scrambled forward and dropped to his knees in front of her. Her hands were criss-crossed over her midsection and her face was contorted in pain.

"I-I don't understand." Gameknight stuttered, his mind reeling.

Herder sniffled. "You collapsed while we were walking and kind of dissolved, somehow, into that number thing. Like earlier, but more extreme." Hunter shifted and opened her eyes, looking up at them, squinting through the pain. "Then Null showed up out of nowhere and started attacking us, and he went to attack Hunter and you kind of appeared, but the sword..." Herder whipped his eyes and looked at Gameknight's abdomen. "It went right through you."

Gameknight's hand drifted down to his stomach, but it felt solid(ish). No wound. So Hunter was right behind him when he got stabbed? It was like he wasn't there at all...

Gears turned in his head. This changed a lot of things. If he even made it to the next part of the plan, this complicated things. He didn't have to time to worry about that now however, as Hunter flashed red again and groaned. She looked him in the eyes.

"Gameknight." She said, quiet but stern. "You can do this. I know you can do this. You're an idiot, but..." she faltered. "But your my idiot."

Gameknight's chest was doing something funny. He ignored it. "Hunter, you're-you're gonna be okay- I'm gonna think of something-" tears were rolling down his face and Herder's sobs were uncontrolled and irregular.

Hunter flashed again, but this time she didn't even flinch. "Take care of Stitcher for me."

Flash.

"Hunter-No!"

...

Null dropped next to a tree and held his chest. Tears streamed down face as emotions ragged through him. Damn that girl and Gameknight's emotions. He felt as though he was mentally being torn apart.

His legs shook as he stood. He had to follow through with what he started. It was what he'd want in the long run. He was almost there. His stupid counterpart was almost gone.

But what then?

With a deep sigh of regret, Null grabbed his sword and ran.

...

Herobrine tumbled to the ground. He had no idea what was goin on. One minute lil ol' Tommy was on the brink of extinction as Herobrine sent him tumbling to the ground and wreaking havoc on his code, the next Herobrine himself had lost control and was being overwhelmed by the mess he'd created to destroy Gameknight. The broken scape around him was doing whatever it wanted. Herobrine began to panic as he tried to fight a fruitless battle.

What was going on?

...

Gameknight doesn't know what happened.

Something just happened.

Time began to move very slowly again. He had an idea. There was no way it would work. Not a second time, and definitely not on a different person. But he was going to try anyway. The world faded away to a codic mass as Gameknight reached forward, where numbers swarmed what used to be hands. Hunter's eyes were closed and the code around her seemed to be growing dull. He grabbed the dying code. It tried to wiggle away and decay but different sets of 1001's kept them there. Someone said something far, far away from here, but G1me110ght ignored it.

He tried to keep the code together but it fought to separate. It wasn't going to stay like this on its own. Just like the rift from earlier, it needed glue, maybe even flex tape. Too bad that didn't exist here.

But numbers did.

1001001110 concentrated on what was in front of him. The figure before him (?) was surrounded by weak, dissolving code, but it all branches out from the central, weakest part. If he could fix that...

His h10d glowed brightly as he reached forward. The numbers were almost jumping to replace the old, and now bright white replacing the dull. The figure got brighter until it was just marginally more brilliant than the landscape around it. It sat up slowly.

"10me11ight?"

Gameknight blinked and looked at Hunter. She was sitting across from him, hand on his shoulder. Her eyebrows were drawn together in concern, but she looked fine, healthy.

Safe.

Her lips were moving, she was saying something, but Gameknight couldn't hear anything but ringing. Herder emerged from behind, and he was yelling, pointing at something behind Gameknight. Tear stains remained on his cheeks, but terror was firm in his eyes.

And with that, Gameknight passed out.
