Shopping and a Movie

I wake to knocking on my door and a concerned Irish accent asking "Are you ok?" I can tell that I haven't been asleep long. Maybe an hour or so.

"Cecelia?" Jack questions through the door. I snap into awareness. I look at my arms to make sure they're presentable.

I get up and open the door for Jack. "Yeah?" I ask him, yawning. I wince a tiny bit. It hurts to talk.

"Oh. Were you sleeping? Sorry," he mumbles, embarrassed, bringing his hand up to rub at the back of his neck shyly.

"Don't worry about it, I was just taking a quick power nap," I assure him. His eyes are still shimmering with guilt, and dripping with apologies.

"Why did you want to talk?" I ask, trying to get his normal oceanic eyes back.

"I - umm. I sorta promised you in the hospital that I'd take you shopping for some clothes," he says, looking at the ones I had on.

I glanced down at the over-sized hoodie and sweats I was wearing. "Oh. That's probably a good idea," I said.

"Come on then. You ok with walking? It's not that far," he asks.

I remember my injuries. Mainly my side and leg. They'd been bugging me with all the walking I've been doing. But I'd be fine, right?

"Yeah," I reply, slightly doubtful. "Let's go."

Jack smiles at me and holds out his arm for me to take. I smile and shake my head slightly at his antics. But I play along. I grab his arm and he leads me downstairs.

¥¥ Time Skip to the Store ¥¥
Jack shrugs off my arm, running ahead to open the door for me. I giggle at him as I walk in.

"Where do you wanna go first?" He asks, looking around.

"I don't know," I reply unhelpfully. "To get clothes."

Jack gives me an exasperated look. "Really? I thought you wanted to look at shovels," he said sarcastically.

I just silently laugh at him. "Shovels?" I ask him. "Couldn't you think of something better?"

"Hey!" He says, putting up his hands defensively. "It was spur-of-the-moment. I can't just come up with awesome things that fast." He defends himself.

I just shake my head and start to drag him towards where the clothes are.

"I'll meet you at the front, ok? I'm gonna do some shopping of my own. Grab whatever," he tells me, walking off.

I end up getting quite a bit. I got a bunch of clothes, hair ties, headbands, shampoo, conditioner, a hairbrush, some more bandages, and a few other odds and ends.

As I'm going to meet Jack at the front of the store, I walk by the electronic area. I stop and gaze at the cameras longingly for a moment.

I also grab a couple pads of paper and some markers and pencils. I hope this all doesn't cost too much.

I walk over to checkout, looking for Jack. I see a flash of green and head over to it, seeing Jack with a bag in his hand.

"What did you get?" I ask him, gesturing towards the bag in his hands.

"You'll see," he says, smirking. I get slightly worried, but brush it off. 'It's probably something for a video. A new game or something,' I tell myself.

Jack then ushers me to checkout, claiming that he wants to hurry home. He buys me everything and insists on carrying the bags.

Jack and I are joking on the way back to his place, him more then me since my throat still hurts a bit.

We come back in and Jack follows me upstairs. He drops all the bags in a heap on my bed. He then rifles through the bags, looking for something.

"What are you doing?" I ask him, laughing at how silly he looks.

"Looking for a bag. You know, the one i had," he told me, still searching through the bags.

"You mean the one you asked me to carry back?" I asked him, holding up the bag in question.

Jack freezes for a moment. He glances over at me and the bag I'm holding. He straitens out and looks at my somewhat shyly.

"Yeah, that one," he says quietly.

"Well, here," I say, handing him the bag. He takes it and pulls out what's inside. It's a box. I can't really tell what's inside because it's dark.

Jack is fidgeting with the box. Trying to open it, I think. He manages, after a moment. He pulls out a slim object.

He holds his arm out to me, offering me the object in his hand. I grab it, looking at it closely. It's a phone. An iPhone something/or-other.

I look up at Jack with pure shock on my face.

"Jack... What?" I say, unable to formulate a complete sentence.

"I noticed that you didn't have one. And you've been helping me a lot lately. So I wanted to give you a thank you present," he says, answering my shocked question.

I look at the phone in my hand. Then at Jack. Then at the phone. I look back and forth between them. Jack is trying to hold back his laughter.

I have a phone. I can call or text someone whenever I want. Rosa Faith, specifically. I miss her. I miss hanging out with her and watching YouTube. I miss the times when we would blast music throughout the tiny apartment we used to have, either singing and dancing along loudly and off-key, or have a drawing competition, arguing about whose was better, ending in us laughing hysterically on the floor.

I don't realize that I'm crying until I feel Jack hug me. Until my tears start to soak his shirt.

I immediately put I one of my masks. I shouldn't cry right now, I don't have anything to cry about. I'll just call Rosa Faith later.

I pull away from Jack's arms, a part of me wishing I could stay there.

"Are you ok?" He asks me, concerned. Him still holding onto my arms gently.

"Yeah," I say, nodding my head. "I - just - thank you," I tell him, looking up into his face shyly.

"You don't need to thank me. This is a thank you for everything that you've done for me," he replies. His face is shining with sincerity.

"Don't worry about it. You didn't need to do this for me," I tell him, looking away.

"Sure I did. I'd feel guilty of I didn't do anything," he says, rubbing soothing circles into my arm.

I stay silent, not knowing how to respond. Jack just continues to rub circles into my arms, making me scared that he sees beyond my mask.

"Hey, wanna watch a movie?" He asks me quietly.

I look up and give him a grateful smile for changing the subject.

"Sure," I say, nodding. "Just let me send a quick text first?" I ask, holding up my new phone.

"Ok, I'll get everything ready," he tells me, starting to head downstairs.

I hold up my phone, pushing the home button. I swipe to the side and push the app that's at the very bottom left. I tap the plus in the top right and type in Rosa Faith's name and number.

I then go to contacts and text Rosa Faith.

Hey, Rosa Faith. The guy
I'm staying with - Jack - just
bought me a phone. This is my
number. This is Cecelia, by the
way.

I send to her, excited that I'll be able to talk to her more often now. I turn off my phone as I head downstairs.

I sit on the couch and wait for Jack to come out of the Kitchen. I can hear him making popcorn in there.

The TV is on, and paused on some opening credits of a movie I don't recognize. I feel the couch dip down next to me, and I look over to see Jack holding a bowl of popcorn.

He's sitting right next to me, under a foot of distance between us. He sets the bowl in his lap, gesturing for me to come closer. I do so, a bit unwillingly.

"What are we watching?" I ask Jack, looking at his unwilling and slightly scared face.

"Some horror movie. I lost a bet with Mark so I have to watch it. You don't have to of you don't want to," he says, gripping the bowl tightly.

"No, I'll stay," I tell him, watching his fingers and expression relax a bit at my words. Then I remember, he doesn't like horror movies. I scoot closer to him, hoping to relax him a bit more.

He picks up the remote and pushes play. Creepy music immediately starts playing.

As the movie goes on, I get closer to Jack.

Suddenly, there's a jump scare and I accidentally jump into Jack's lap, knocking over the popcorn. I hide my face in his neck, gripping his shirt tightly with my fingers.

"Sorry," I mumble into his neck, gripping his shirt tighter in fear.

Jack's chest vibrates a bit as he chuckles at me, but he wraps his arms around me, causing my face to redden more then it already had.

"It's alright. You can stay here if you want," he says back, still fixated on the movie in anticipating fear.

We stayed like that for the rest of the movie. Me in Jack's lap as he watched. Sometimes, he'd jump and pull me closer.

When the movie was over, he changed it to some rom com that was on TV. I adjusted myself do that I was still in his lap, but I could see the TV.

I see maybe 10 minutes of it, before my eyes become too heavy to keep open and they fall shut, sending me to sleep. Still curled up in Jack's lap and wrapped in his embrace.

Ok, first of all I'm sorry there's no song. I was busy Thursday and my internet sucked on Friday so I didn't have time to look for one. If you know of a song that fits, leave it in the comments and I'll put it in.
I hope you like this chapter, I worked hard on it. It's over 1600 words, so I hoped you enjoyed it. Sorry if it's bad, I didn't get a chance to thoroughly proof read it.
Please leave feedback in the comments and vote if you liked it.
I'll see you all in the next chapter, bye!
