Long A/N at end
-----------------------------------------------------
"I'm telling you mines better," Rosa Faith says, crossing her arms.
"And I'm telling you that mine is better," I sigh, running a hand through my hair. This was going nowhere. We've been here for half an hour repeating those words over and over again, like a broken record.
"Are you blind, Cecelia? Mine is obviously much better then yours," Rosa Faith argues, wriggling her back against the pillows.
"No offense," she quickly adds, unwilling to hurt my feelings, even in this argument.
"Are you blind?" I ask her, raising an eyebrow defiantly.
"Of course not, no, definitely not!" She exclaims.
"I think she doth protest too much," I sing out slightly, grinning, causing her to shoot a glare and huff my way.
I let out another sigh, and look at the ceiling, thinking.
We were unable to decide who's was better, so we'd need outside help. A judge, if you will. Problem was, the only person available was Jack. And we drew him. This is going to be awkward.
"Rosa Faith?" I ask lightly.
"Yeah?" She responds, calm now that the arguing has stopped.
"I think we need outside help deciding this one," I say, flopping my head to the side to look at her.
"I think you're right," she says, turning her eyes away from the ceiling.
"The only person here is Jack," I state.
"Yeah," she replies emotionlessly.
"We drew Jack."
"Yep."
"This is going to be awkward, isn't it?" I ask.
"Mm hmm."
"Great. This is gonna be fun," I say sarcastically.
"Pretty much," she says, moving to get up. She stands and waits at the foot of the bed, giving me a 'come on' look. A look that said 'let's just get this over with'.
"Come on," she urges, shaking my foot with her hand. "Let's go."
"Is he even free?" I ask, tilting my head to the side as I listen. Quiet. Guess so.
"Well I'm not hearing anything, so...." she says, giving me an impatient look. "Come on!" She says. "Let's just get this over with already."
"Fine," I sigh out, getting up and grabbing both drawings from their position.
"Let's go," I say as I walk out the door. I walk to Jack's and pause, unsure. What if he's busy editing or answering comments or something?
"Cecelia...." Rosa Faith warns, giving me a hard look. "Knock on the door."
"I'm getting there! Keep your pants on, jeez," I say, bring up a hand to twirl a strand of hair around my finger nervously.
"Well it didn't look like you were doing anything!" She defends herself, raising her hands.
I give her a small glare and turn back towards the door.
I raise up a hand and gently knock on it, turning away slightly, squeezing my eyes shut the tiniest bit, memories of Luke flashing through my mind.
¥¥ Flashback ¥¥
Loud laughter echos through the door, causing my head to throb even harder with pain. I whimper quietly, digging my thumbs into my temple in a weak attempt to ease the pain.
They all boo loudly at the TV, causing me to jump and let out a startled, painful yelp. I roll over and unwrap the blankets from around me, throwing them off my head. I get up and pad over to the door, keeping my head down and eyes half closed.
I gently push open the door a little, just enough to poke my head through.
"Hey, Luke?" I ask, "Can you keep it down in here? I have a really bad headache," I explain quietly, wincing at all the sounds flitting through the air, like needles being flung at my brain.
"We're watching football," he says offhandedly, "go sleep it off or something."
"I can't sleep with you guys being so loud," I tell him, taking a half step into the room, leaning against the door frame.
"I don't care, stop bugging us, we're watching the game. You're distracting," he responds, fixing his attention back to the TV as the commercials end.
"My head really hurts, though," I tell him, rubbing a hand absentmindedly at my forehead.
He turns up the volume, gets up and excuses him self.
"Be back in a bit," he mumbles to his friends. They nod offhandedly and give me a quick grin, evil shining in their eyes.
Luke walks towards me, grabs my upper arms and drags me to our room.
"What have I told you about interrupting us during a game?" He asks coldly, sharply as he whips me around to face him, releasing me.
I look down, fearful.
"Not to do it," I whisper, afraid of him for one of the first times ever.
"What was that? I couldn't hear you." He speaks in a cold, dead, emotionless tone.
"You told me not to interrupt you during a game," I say a little louder, still not looking him in the eyes.
"That's right. And what did you just do?"
"Interrupt you," I whisper, cowering away from his large frame.
"Don't interrupt us again. Just stay here, and stay quiet. I'll deal with you later," he tells me, voice heavy with malice.
He walks to the door and slams it behind him, causing me to flinch at the pain.
"Ok," I whisper, "I'm sorry."
¥¥ Flashback Over ¥¥
"Cecelia?" Rosa Faith asks, cutting through my thoughts. "You ok?"
"Yeah," I say, giving her a tight smile. "Just got lost in thought," I explain.
"Okay...." She says, unconvinced.
I turn back to the door and rap my knuckles against it five times fast, three slow, and two fast; a special knock I'd come up with a while back, something I'd always do before entering.
"Come in," Jack yells.
I turn the knob and enter, ushering Rosa Faith in also. She looks around in awe around the room. The one she'd seen for hours, but never in person.
I reach out and push her jaw up with two fingers.
"Do you need something?" Jack asks, still working on his computer. "Sorry, I'm busy editing the latest video."
"It's fine," I tell him. "But we do kinda need your help."
"With what?" He asks, taking off his headphones and spinning around to face me.
"Well Rosa Faith and I just finished a drawing competition, but we can't decide who's is better. Can you be the judge?" I ask, half hoping he'll say yes, and half hoping he'll say no.
"Yeah, sure," he says, slightly surprised. "Let me see them." He reaches out his hands.
I walk over and move to hand them over, but hesitate, scared that he'll think mine sucks or that it's weird I drew him or something.
I shake it off and hand them over, placing them in his open palm.
He takes them and studies them, scanning his eyes over every inch of the paper before looking at the next one and doing the same thing. Once he's looked at both, he hold them up and then holds them side by side, flicking his gaze between the two, brow slightly furrowed.
"These are both really good," he says. "Which one is which?" He asks.
"We're not gonna tell you till after," Rosa Faith says, "since you'd be bias to pick Cece's." I glare at her for the use of my childish nickname.
Jack glances towards us for a moment, confused. "Cece?" He asks.
"Cecelia's nickname," Rosa Faith says, grinning proudly.
"From when we were five," I chime in.
"Really?" He asks turning towards me. "Why didn't you tell me you had a nickname?"
"Cause it's stupid and I hate it and it makes me feel like I'm five again," I tell him bluntly.
"Oh, ok," he says, turning back towards the drawings.
He glances back at them before he puts one on top of the other and passes it to me.
"That one. They're both good, but if I had to choose, it'd be that one," he says, looking slightly bashful.
"Thanks," I tell him, grabbing them and glancing down to see mine on top. I send a secret grin towards Jack before putting on a disappointed face, letting out a sigh.
"Sorry, Cece, looks like I won again," she says, grinning, without looking at the drawings in my hand.
"Yeah, guess so," I mumble out, fake-ashamed.
"Better luck next time!" She chirps out, happy.
She twirls around in place once before throwing her arms up and shaking her hips obnoxiously, just to annoy me to prove that she won.
"You too," I say, grinning. "Since you need it," I proclaim happily. Rosa Faith stops doing her happy dance, confused.
"Wait, what? But I thought I won?" She asks, puzzled.
"Nope," I say, turning the drawings towards her to reveal mine on top. "I did. Better luck next time, though," I tell her in mock sadness, grinning.
"You pain in the butt," she laughs, shoving my shoulder playfully. "I thought I won! You tricked me!" She accuses, giggling.
"That was kind of the point," I inform her, grinning back.
Jack chuckles behind us, entertained by our exchange.
"Actually," Rosa Faith says, glancing at her phone. "I should get going. I have work," she frowns at her screen, not wanting to leave so soon.
"Really?" I ask, already knowing the answer. She nods glumly in response.
"Well I had fun, so you should come over again soon," I offer happily.
"As long as it's ok with Jack, that is," I backtrack, realizing that this is Jack's house not mine and that I'm still just a visitor here.
"Of course," Jack says from behind me, pushing himself into a standing position. He walks over to Rosa Faith, pulling her into a gentle hug. "You're welcome anytime. Just give me a heads up so I can join in, though, ok?"
"You sure you wanna watch chick flicks and braid out hair?" She asks, pulling away to look at his face. A look of slight horror passes over Jack's face for a moment before he pushes it back and swallows heavily.
"Sure, yeah," he says, holding on to Rosa Faith's upper arms, nodding. "Sounds like fun," he says.
"Ok then. I'm looking forward to it," Rosa Faith says. She turns and pulls me into a hug. "Bye, Cece. See ya soon," she whispers in my ear.
"Yep. See you then, shorty," I whisper back, smiling.
"Bye!" She declares again, turning and walking out the door. "I'll see you all soon," she says over her shoulder.
"Hey Rosa Faith!" Jack yells, stopping her.
"Yeah?" She asks, confused.
"You'll have to teach me how to braid hair," he tells her, a serious look on his face, "I don't know how to."
"What?" She gasps, pretending to be scandalized by his confession.
"Yep," he says seriously, fake fear on his face.
Rosa Faith sighs, shaking her head before the smile works it's way to her lips.
She turns to me.
"I'll be back soon. I'm disappointed in you," she says, hardening her expression.
"Teaching someone is a two person job, I'm sorry," I reply, raising my hands in defense.
Rosa Faith giggles, giving one last hug and a quick peck to the cheek. "Bye!" She shouts out gleefully as she runs out the door.
"Bye," I say even though she can't hear me.
~~~> Later that night <~~~
I perch my elbow carefully on the edge of the counter, my arm hovering over the sink. A dark towel covers the counter. I tighten my fingers slightly, feeling the blade dig into my palm. I sigh and readjust it, turning it away from my hand, towards my wrist. I bring it down and drag it across my flesh, sighing at the calmness than overwhelms me, my knees almost buckling.
I watch the skin slowly tear open, red blood oozing out. Crimson dripping is the only sound in the room, aside from my light breathing. I bite my lip harshly and turn away for a moment.
Why am I doing this? I have no reason to be upset or sad.
Today was one of the happiest days I've had in a long time. So why does it still end the same as the bad ones?
Me in the bathroom, dark towel, a razor, and an open wrist.
And the salty tears that slip down my cheeks.
Hey guys! So sorry for the long wait. I just haven't had any passion or inspiration to write lately. I'm sorry :/
PM or comment what you want to see next. It'll give me inspiration and the next part will be up a lot faster.
Sorry again for not updating in forever. My birthday was the 18th, and that got in the way of writing. I also got my hair dyed and it looks decent, if I may say so. (Comment if you want to see & I'll post it at the end of the next chapter)
Thank you all for putting up with my sporadic updates. Forgive me, please?
I apologize if this part is boring/horrible. Since nothing really happens, this is basically a filler chapter. I'm sorry, I usually don't do those. Sorry. Also, not edited or revised in any way.
Please vote and comment for quicker updates or if you liked this part, and I'll see you in the next chapter. Buh-Bye!
