Chapter 3

Chapter 3: cutest little girl

*Ash's POV*

"where the hell is she?!" I muttered as I walked round the school looking for Cassie.

She wasn't in Math class. Is she avoiding me because she doesn't to return my diary to me. But that'd mean I would be able to keep her diary, which wouldn't make sense seeing as to how much see wanted it back.

She wouldn't play a game with me. She's too timid -which is pretty cute if you ask me- to try play games with me. I'm the bad boy of West Wood. She should know more than enough to play games with me. I would never hurt her though, she seemed too fragile, like she could break if someone talked to her about whatever she was hiding. She has a pretty darn high wall if you ask me.

You want to be the one to break the wall.

I do not!

I decided to skip school and find her house. I need my diary back. I want my diary back. It's not like I've never skipped school before. I've done it like a million times, the teachers all already know that.

Maybe I'll pick Vanessa on the way. I bet she'd want to hang out with her cool as older brother than that lame old baby sitter. I was pretty sure she was bored of Margaret. That lady was freaking boring. I don't even talk to her that much but I can already tell she's a boring person. Even Vanessa has told me that herself.

"hi, may I get Cassie's home address?" I asked Mrs Reynolds, the lady at the counter outside the principal's office.

"and why would you want it?" she asked, raising her eyebrow.

"I'm her partner in a project and I need to hand her the assignments as well. she didn't come to school today so I thought I'd drop by hers after school" I lied, adding the last part just so she'd think I was staying in school until it ended.

"okay..." she said, skeptical.

"thank you," I grinned.

She was so naive.

"here you go," she said, passing me a piece of paper with the address on it.

"thank you," I smiled and walked away.

*Cassie's POV*

I groaned. And groaned. And groaned. I was suppose to get my diary back today! But here I am, sick in bed with a cold with a temperature higher than Mount Everest -maybe I'm too dramatic- and with a slight head ache, not being able to go to school. I would've, but mom said that I was burning up, had a cold and I couldn't go. So of course I didn't, I wouldn't mind skipping school, but my diary!

The door bell rang. And I groaned again. No one's home which means I have to go get it. I swung my legs out of my bed and went downstairs towards the front door. It rang again. And I groaned, annoyed.

Can't that person wait? It's less than a minute, sheesh.

"coming!" I yelled, as much as it hurt to talk loudly with a headache.

"what?" I asked annoyed as I saw Ash's face.

I'll admit, I was pretty surprised that he found my address or he'd actually come over to my house.

"hi!" a little sweet voice spoke.

I looked down a little and saw the prettiest, cutest little girl ever. She had soft dirty blonde locks that fell below her shoulders until her chest and beautiful brown eyes. She wore a pink shirt under her denim overalls. She simply looked adorable. She looked a lot like Ash, of course much more cuter.

"well, hello little munchkin," I smiled at her, bending down, "what's your name?"

"Vanessa," she said, smiling from ear to ear.

"hi Vanessa, are you Ash's sister?" I asked, smiling.

She was a little girl, of course I was nice to her. She was easy to talk to, unlike Ash. Okay, honestly Ash wasn't that hard to talk to, but this little girl was just an angel!

"yes!" she exclaimed, hugging Ash's leg.

I looked up and raised an eyebrow at Ash, as if asking him why she was here with him.

"her babysitter is the worse ever, so might as well let her tag along," he shrugged.

"well, come on in." I gestured to both of them, then sniffed as my nose felt blocked.

"you sick?" Ash asked.

"you have no idea," I muttered.

"so what's your name?" Vanessa chirped.

"Cassie," I said holding my hand out.

"that's a nice name!" she exclaimed, ignoring my hand and hugged me instead.

"so is yours," I chuckled, pulling away, "but I'm sick, so don't get too close"

"okay!"

I smiled at her as she backed away and stood closer to Ash. She wasn't scared of me though, I could tell. She never stopped smiling at me. She's a four year old, she can't possibly lie, right? Besides, she looked like an angel.

"what's up?" I asked Ash.

"my diary." he stated.

"could've just asked for it tomorrow," I rolled my eyes.

"a) I couldn't wait. b) tomorrow's Saturday."

Tomorrow's Saturday? Thank god he came today. I needed my diary.

"how'd you get my address?"

"Mrs Reynolds." he shrugged.

"well okay, I'll go get yours," I said, walking up to my room.

"your room's so cool!" Vanessa squealed and I jumped.

She's like a ninja! I didn't know she was following me. I didn't hear her footsteps as we walked up the stairs. Then again, she's 4. She could be sneaky. Yet, she's a complete angel.

"thanks!" I smiled down at her.

"Sleeping with Sirens, Green Day, Pierce The Veil, Fall Out Boy, Coldplay, The Beatles, All Time Low... you have a damn good music taste!" Ash exclaimed, examining my chalkboard wall.

It was a wall in which I decided to paint with chalkboard paint, and I designed it with bands that I liked, making it look like a cool wallpaper. I kinda liked it like that, also, if I didn't like any of the bands anymore, I could always rub it off and draw on another.

"thanks, I guess" I shrugged.

Ash cleared his throat as if remembering who I was and what he was here for, his diary. He probably felt weird even talking to me right? Again, I'm a nobody.

As I started to walk towards the nightstand where I had taken out the diary and left it there, Vanessa beat me to it.

"what's this?" she chirped.

"no, don't op-" I tried, rushing to here but she was faster.

Huh, I got outrun by a 4 year old, and my room isn't that big! I was sick though, so that's going to be my excuse to myself for a litte while.

"7 September 2009-" Ash cut her off, almost shouting, "stop it Vanessa!"

I was frozen to the ground. I literally couldn't move. 7 September 2009. 7 September 2009. 7 September 2009. 7 September 2009... The date kept replaying in my mind. That day was the date of the incident. Of all pages, she chose that specific page to read in ash's diary. 7 September 2009. 7 September 2009...

I tuned back into reality when I felt something hugging my leg. I looked back down and saw Vanessa, the only thing different was the fact that she had teaary eyes. I frowned and sat on the floor, planning to talk to her.

"what's wrong?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Ash shouted at me," she said, wrapping her little arms around me.

I was about to narrow my eyes at Ash but he had a remorseful look. Well, he better have it. How does someone shout at this little munchkin?! I smiled at Ash as if telling him to apologise and comfort his younger sister. He got he hint and started walking towards us, as I pulled away.

"now I'm sure he didn't mean too, yeah?" I said, wiping away her tears.

Ash smiled at me gratefully and sat next to me, our knees touching. I felt tingles in my stomach, but I ignored it.

"I'm sorry Nessa. I just don't like it that day, okay?" Ash asked, hugging Vanessa.

"okay..." she said.

I wanted to take a picture right now. It was so cute! I wish I had a brother when I was youngger to take care of me and protect me. I watched them hug each other, then felt a little bit awkward, so I cleared my throat. They pulled apart and Vanessa asked hopeful, "can we go to the park tomorrow?"

"sure, why not," he shrugged and smiled at her.

This older brother part of Ash was freaking cute. Wait what? Scratch that. Nope, actually I'm keeping it in my mind. It's so cute!

"can Cassie come?" she asked excited.

I couldn't decide on which I found more surprising. The fact that she remembered my name or that she actually wanted me to go to the park with her.

"if she has nothing to do," he shrugged.

"yeah, sure. come by whenever." I smiled at Cassie and I think I saw Ash's lips twitch up from the corner of my eyes.

Was he happy that I was coming? Yeah right. He might just smiled because I didn't put the little girl's hopes down. But somehow, I was kind of hoping he did want me to go.

I hope this little sickness goes away, because I really want to spend time with him. Wait no, with them.
