Chapter 3: The Creepy Side of Agatha Mary

Poe went out of Agatha's house and started to march towards his own, her lawn is nothing but brown leaves and dead plants, ever since her parent death—Poe knows she never had the energy to even live the life, and that scared him the most.

To be saying the truth, if he claims that he doesn't love Agatha, that will be a huge mistake, seeing how deep he cares about her-- he does hope the best for her. He tries to help her on many occasions but seeing how she, herself is not ready to be helped, he doesn't push further—he is afraid that he will be the one that pushed her away.

As he passed an old man, the neighbor, Mr. Smith, on his way to his house right in front of Agatha's—he noticed the old man gave him a strange look. He is staring at Poe like he has grown two heads. Poe thought deeply about what made Mr. Smith look at him like that, he made a conclusion that maybe the old guy thought that Poe did the dirty deed with Agatha yesterday—he laughed internally at the thought, ha, like that's going to happen.

"Good morning Mr. Smith, are you okay?" Poe greet Mr. smith with his usual award winning smile, the thing will always get everyone on his good side within minutes. As if snapped out of a trance, Mr. Smith smiled warmly at Poe, "Of course I am fine young man, what can go wrong?" Mr. Smith smiled but it didn't reach his eyes.

"I thought you are having a problem again with Mrs. Smith—like last time, but maybe I was wrong" Poe said and laughed out loud and the old man just smiles warmly—this time it does reached his eyes. Poe still remembered the day that the old couple got into a heated argument.

Mrs. Smith was shouting loudly that even Poe and his parent are all awake due to the loudness of her voice—after it is being inspected, the only source of the argument is the trivial matter of Mr. Smith not taking his socks of when entering and roaming around the house—the smelly feet sure can give you headache, Poe learns by experience.

"Nah, she loves me too much to have divorce with me" the old man says while watering the plants, "What are you doing, coming out from Agatha's house today?" he continued—his eyes strained to me for a fleeting time, before going back to water his plants, deciding which one needs it, which one not.

"Oh, you know, I always try to bring Agatha's body out of the house, feeling the set of fresh air—but as always, she rejected the offer, I get mad at her, and here we are" I explained to Mr. Smith and he just nodded knowingly.

"Maybe you should just stop forcing her to do it, maybe she wanted to be left alone" the old man says quietly—as if there's another meaning of the words that is coming from his mouth. Poe looked lost and confused at Mr. Smith words, he doesn't know how to respond to that—is he trying to let him down and just give up on Agatha? Well that's likely not going to happen.

"Pardon me?" Poe said to Mr. Smith while smiling warily. As if snapping out of a trance once again, Mr. Smith smiled—but this time it didn't reached his eyes again, it's like there's something controlling and holding him back.

"Nah, I am sorry young man, Poe-- I really am sorry, lately I'm just not in the right side of my mind, weird kinds of words and replies came out from my mouth uncontrollably" Mr. Smith confessed and smiled meaningfully. Poe just nodded and smiled sheepishly at the old man, "It's alright, totally understandable, I've been feeling like that too lately".

Mr. Smith pats Poe on the back "Alright, I have to finish watering this plants, they need to live just like us, go, do whatever you need to do" he smiled warmly at Poe and Poe also gave him a smile back "Sure, I will let you finish where you left off, see you later too Mr. Smith" Poe said while waving and walking backwards to his house, just right beside Mr. Smith.

Just as he was about to enter his house, Poe saw something rather peculiar—he saw from his front porch that Mr. Smith is looking at Agatha's house blank minded, he didn't even realize that he has been watering the same plant over and over again, the water even flooded out from the pot.

Mr. Smith will surely be getting scolds from Mrs. Smith—Poe just laughed at the thought. But as he was about to shout about the water leaks to Mr. Smith, he saw from the corner of his eyes that Agatha is standing right in front of her second floor bedroom window, looking straight at Mr. Smith.

A look of confusion passed Poe's face as he saw Mr. Smith frightened gaze as he was stunned for a few seconds, but as soon as he snapped out some kind of trance—Mr. Smith immediately ran inside without turning off the water pipe, if his looks could describe one thing, it was screaming bloody murder—but somehow, something prevented Mr. Smith on doing it.

As Mr. Smith disappeared to his house, only then Poe could take off his eyes from Mr. Smith and went back to look at the bedroom window of Agatha's house to find that she is no longer there. Poe blinked for a few times and as if sensing something strange he quickly opens his house's front door and went inside—his parents are not home because they are visiting a friend to the other town and Poe stays here, in Winchester to help a friend in need, that is Agatha—but now he is not so sure anymore.

Her antics just now creeps him out—more than he should be.

Still curious about the strange looks Agatha gave to Mr. Smith from her bedroom window, Poe peeks between the curtain of his front porch window—what he is seeing right now is even more questioning.

Why is Agatha marching her steps to his house with a strange smile?
