Chapter 1: Agatha and Poe
An old abandoned house lies in front of you.
You enter the garden and walk towards the wooden door.
Unseen eyes seem to follow your every step.
Unable to stop yourself for an unknown reason you ring the bell.
A maniacal laugh echoes through the night.
You feel the ground disappearing from your feet and darkness engulfs you—
A girl woke up, startled from the nightmare of her sleepless sleep. She looks about 18 years old—with the jet black hair and a pair of deep brown eyes, she swung her legs over to the edge of the bed and take a few gulps from the glass of water placed beside her bed, on the bedside table.
"Are you okay?" ask the voice from the door.
Looking from the corner of her eyes—the girl saw that it is a boy around her age and it look like she is familiar with him, "Yeah, I'm fine, thanks Poe" the girl said timidly, looking as pale as a ghost because of her pearl like skin.
"You do not look fine Agatha" Poe said, looking worried. He missed the old Agatha—the one who is always cheerful about almost all things, aside from when someone took her food, she will be just fine.
"May I come in?" Poe asked raising his eyebrows at Agatha, instead of answering a yes or a no—she just rolled her eyes at Poe's antics. Poe stepped inside her room and sat beside her, the decoration of the room is very tumblr-ish, seeing that Agatha is probably one of the most active person on tumblr.
At times like this Agatha is feeling really grateful about the dim lights—because only at times like this she can see how handsome Poe is; dirty blonde hair, with a defined jaw and striking blue eyes, along with his muscular body—built with the hours of daily run every morning, she always admires him.
But she knows, Poe is just a friend, why would Poe want to do anything with her dull self-- her long wavy jet black hair cascading down to her chest area, along with her brown eyes, she is as dull as a porridge. The only good point of her body is her square faced along with the defined jawline and curvy body-- if that's even good enough.
"Atha, are you even listening to me?" Poe asked her by calling her with the nickname, Atha.
She never knew that that name would be that good to hear.
Backing up to reality, Agatha just stares at Poe while blinking her eyes—having no clue about what Poe was saying back when she is still admiring him.
"Sorry Poe, I have no idea" she said while looking at him guiltily, Poe just raised his eyebrow expectantly and let out a big loud sigh "As I was saying before, I think you should see a psychiatrist" He continued while rubbing Agatha's back soothingly.
"No, I don't want to do that, I can handle myself just fine" Agatha said while shrugging off Poe's hands from her back. She would kill herself than go to the psychiatrist—she's pretty sure that she's not THAT crazy, but Poe always insist on her going there.
Agatha looks at Poe and wondered why after all that happens in her life he would still want to be her best friend. She remember back then that when they first know each other—it was because of a simple park with a swing on it, she remember that Poe fell that day on the swing and started crying hysterically, it was and still the moment she will never forget, she can always tease Poe about that, all the time.
Probably that is one of the reason that he stays with her—that day little Agatha helped the little Poe to stop crying and be a man, and boy did he do it just fine, he become a man alright.
"You always got the nightmares, because of the accident one year ago" Poe said quietly and Agatha got the reflex to put her head on Poe's shoulder—like an instinct, Poe also cradle her body into his, while rubbing her head soothingly.
The car accident.
Oh, she remembers it alright.
Of course, it's not something that is that easy to forget—especially when it involves two of the most important person in her life, besides Poe.
Agatha's mom, Silvia Hawkins and her dad, Edgar Hawkins both died on the night of 13th October last year because of a car accident—the big blow has happened right in front of Agatha's eyes as the car swerved left to prevent the clash with a truck ahead, but instead it hit another reckless car that wanted to slip past the truck.
She is the only survivor of the accident, and it is definitely not the happiest moment in her life—well she may be alive, but her parents are not. The glass of the front window of the car was all broken and hit her parents right in every parts of their body which make them lose a lot of blood on the way to the hospital and pass away on their way there.
Agatha was saved because she sat in the backseat and the airbag was there to save her. She remembered seeing the bloody and horror face of her parents, they are holding hands to one another, until death do them apart. Without her consent, the treacherous tears started flowing out from her eyes and hiccups can be heard throughout the room.
Out of instincts, Poe wrapped his arms around her tighter and rubs soothing circles on her back, "It will all be okay Atha, you just have to learn to let it go" he continued to whisper sweet nothings to her. Only at times like this, Agatha felt safe like she is in heaven.
Agatha started to feel sleepy after the long tears, and she doesn't know when but somehow—with the dim lights, a good breeze from the window, and the comfy shoulders of Poe, that's when she started to fall asleep.
