I watched outside the window as the rain poured heavily on the ground. I have no clue what and how I am supposed to do anything after what Aiden did to me. But I won't sit back and watch like this. I already called Emily and told her everything. She was as shocked as me knowing Aiden is the one to betray me. But Aiden knows me well and he knows it very well that just because he did something like this doesn't mean I will stop. People are just making it worst by provoking me by any means. He did exactly what that killer asked me to do and now I am thinking how can I get out of this house.
I kept looking at the woods. I don't exactly know what I was searching for but my gaze moved throughout the forest recklessly. The trees were brushing against each other with the fast wind that was blowing around as the water fell ruthlessly on them. The leaves were falling down on the ground. I saw some helpers running around with umbrellas in their hands tackling with this weather to check on the things around. I put my hand on the window sill and rested my chin on it. The sprinkles of water hit my face gently in between. I kept looking at the water falling on the rooftop as it made it's way down to touch the ground.
I heard the door creak as mom peaked through it pushing it further and making her way towards me. I adjusted myself in the seat moving my gaze back to the window. I am in no mood to talk with anyone at the moment and if I could find Aiden, I will kill him right there. I know I will regret it later but I don't care.
"Don't you want breakfast?" she asked settling beside me on the couch. I kept looking outside. I was mad at everyone. I don't know who to trust anymore. The person who I thought would support me in anything broke my trust. I hope he doesn't break me anymore. He knows much more about me than any of the people around. I have shared my whole life with him not hiding even the smallest part of myself. Especially about my birth mom and what followed after that. the part that I have kept away from everyone but him. Even Emily got no clue as to what exactly happened that night. It's just him. Was I fool to do that? Did I trust him blindly? Or am I thinking too much now? He did because he was concerned, right? Yes! I suppose and I hope that's the case.
"I have no appetite," I said without looking at her. I heard her let out a sigh. She kept her hand over mine.
"Faith," she called in an understanding tone. I let out a frustrated deep sigh and looked at her.
"Mom, I don't want to talk about it," I said and moved my hand away from hers.
"Why didn't you tell us about the note?" she asked again. Her tone was calming as always and she continued, "And why do you have to go all the way there? At the house?"
I know I shouldn't have done what I did but I have my reasons to do so. The main being people neglected the fact that the killer was at my window. They just said that they searched the woods. That's all. Who knows if they actually did it. No one bothered much about it. I have said countless times that I see someone in the woods but still got ignored so I got no option but to help myself out even if that means keeping my own life in danger. Anyway, I am not safe so it hardly matters.
"Didn't you think how dangerous that can be? That he might come to kill you?" she continued again when I refused to speak. I was getting more and more frustrated with every passing moment. The anger was engulfing inside of me but I was trying to contain it in the only way I knew. By staying quiet.
"He is already out there, mom. Ready to kill us at any moment," I said making my voice a bit louder, "What worse can happen?" she didn't say anything but the look on her face said she is a bit convinced by what I said.
"Either way he is coming for us," I said again making my voice low yet again.
"But Moore..." she was saying when I cut her off. I am tired of hearing the stuff that cops are doing their job. If they are doing what they have to do then how did that person reach my window each time and just vanish in nowhere?
"I know they are doing their work but nothing is happening. No one bothered to ask me how did he look when he almost barged inside my room," I said putting my thoughts in front of her, "I could have gotten killed, mom. That night itself." Mom looked at me with the worry and fear in her eyes. I felt bad for acting rudely. I know she is just worried. I moved to her side and kept my hand on hers.
"They said they searched the woods though I don't know how much truth is in there," I said again shaking my head. She let out a sigh and held my hand tight.
"We shouldn't have come here. It's because I insisted your father go to the countryside," she said in a low voice shaking her head a big. Looking at her made me feel guilty for some reason. It wasn't her fault. Nothing was.
"No mom. I met my friends here. I don't regret coming here," I said with an assuring tone, "It's just I feel..." I stopped not knowing how to put this in front of her. I am not sure if I am making any sense or making just some blind assumptions.
"I don't know but I think..."
"That someone is manipulating everything?" Mom completed the sentence for me. I looked at her with surprise. Somewhere I was happy that she thinks the same.
"I don't know. But something is up. That psycho reached my window, he was able to crack the glass by throwing a stone, he knows the ways. Isn't it weird that he just gets vanish in the woods without leaving any trace? No one is able to find him. How?" I asked and looked at her carefully.
"It sure is something to give a thought to," she said putting a thoughtful face. I didn't say anything for some time as the thoughts started running in my head. I badly want to get out of this house and only mom could help me. I want to put together everything one more time.
The thing Aiden said about the 9 number. What it might be? The thing Rose said about Mrs. Wittnakar. About Aiden's family. I want to widen my view and think of all possibilities that's when I can reach somewhere. Right now, I am just clueless.
"Mom, can I go at Emily's?" I asked finally. She looked at me and gave it a thought for some time.
"Faith, you know your dad won't allow," she said in an understanding tone.
"Someone will drop me there and then pick up as well. Problem solved. You have her mother to keep eye on us," I said assuring her about my safety. I honestly have no intention to run around because that's of no help. So instead, maybe I could use some brain and try to put the pieces together but I need someone to talk to. I could ask Emily to come over but I honestly want to get out of this house. These woods and this room won't help me think in any way.
"It's ok! Go," she said as I smiled for the first time since yesterday, "I will ask someone to drop you but don't break my trust." she said and put her hand on my cheek. I nodded at her getting happy.
"I won't. I will just go to Emily's house and then come back here," I said.
"Okay!" she said with a smile.
"Thanks, mom," I said and hugged her tight making her chuckle. I got up and started running around to grab my clothes and get ready.
"Just be safe," Mom said making her voice louder for me to hear.
"I will," I said and I mean it in every way.
*******************
Emily closed the door and locked it as soon as Edmund entered inside. I called him and asked to come over as soon as mom left the room. The main reason being he might know something about Rose's mom. I took out the sheets I made that day with Aiden and one notebook to write down the theories. We sat in a circle on the wooden ground of Emily's room. Edmund took out his own research which he did till now. I was quietly surprised to see that. Emily had the same expressions. Before he was doing this just for me when he didn't believe half of my stories but this time, it's different. He knows someone exists out there and most importantly, his own best friend is on the stake who he wants to prove innocent at any cost.
"Alright, I will start," I said as they both gave me a nod to go ahead.
"So we have two murders. And maybe one missing body. The ninth one," I said scribbling in my notebook. I saw Edmund doing the same while Emily was looking in my notebook.
"As Aiden said, it can be someone who used to live alone," I said again and both of them nodded. But it's strange that his or her neighbors didn't notice anything. Besides, if cops said it's of the same pattern then they might have discovered the numbers and so did the missing ninth. They might not have made it official yet.
"We have this note written with shabby handwriting but we can't go and match it with people so it's basically useless," I said shaking my head a little as I showed them the note killer send me. I put it aside with the hope that it might be useful someday.
"We have Mrs. Wittnakar, the Wright family, and Mrs. Clerk to doubt as they might lead us somewhere," I said making a chart with all of the names. Sure it felt a little out of way to write Mr. and Mrs. Wright's names in it including Aiden. But as I said we need to widen our view and think of all possibilities without being biased to anyone.
I saw Edmund's body toughen with mention of Wrights. I know it's as hard for him as it is for me but we still go ahead with it.
"So how should we go ahead?" I asked moving my gaze to Emily and Edmund. Emily gestured towards Edmund who was looking lost in his thoughts as he kept looking at his notebook. "Edmund?" I called out to get his attention.
He looked up at me as if I have woken up him from his deep slumber. He looked confused for some time as he looked in his notebook and then at us trying to get back to the things. We stayed patient and gave him his time to recover.
"I think we should keep an eye on Mrs. Wittnakar for time being," he said echoing my thoughts. I wanted to do this since Rose mentioned but I got no idea as to how to go ahead with it. Edmund said further reading our faces when none of me or Emily spoke anything, "Where she goes and who she meets."
"I think she will lead us somewhere," Emily said agreeing with Edmund. I nodded with understanding.
"If she is consistent in her schedule then we might even check out her home?" I asked raising my eyebrows. Edmund and Emily gave me a look of disbelief. Yes, I have gone crazy but there is basically no other option.
"Faith, it's a little risky. She is associated with some high-level people and her house has security," Edmund said which was true but it's not much and she doesn't have helpers that I know. She lives alone here.
"There might be some place from where we can enter without getting noticed," I said with a shrug as if this was so easy. I was nervous and scared of that thought but I won't let it show in front of them.
"You are going overboard. That's not needed," Edmund said again with a slight hint of irritation.
"Look, I am going whether you people like it or not. I just hope you both don't go to my parents and tell them about my plan," I said. The frustration and anger build inside me thinking about Aiden. I need to confront him sooner or later. I can't just let him go like that.
"We won't do it," Emily said with assurance in her voice and smile on her lips.
"Aiden might have his reasons. He was worried for you," Edmund said taking his best friend's side as always.
"That doesn't give him the right to do what he did," I said strictly. It pissed me off just thinking about how he behaved last night.
"Okay, forget him. How can we keep an eye on her? School starts tomorrow," Emily said changing the topic. That's right! The suspension came to an end along with the weekend and I don't think I achieved much apart from getting grounded by my dad thanks to my lovely boyfriend. Yes! I am going to mention that over and over again until he gives me some good explanation for the same.
"Hmm..."
"I will leave home a little early for a couple of days and we will go together home by taking that route. Anyway, her house comes between school and our respective homes so that won't be any problem," Edmund said as I looked at him gratefully. I know that no matter how these people act, in the end, they are the ones who have got my back. I don't think I will ever be able to repay them for anything.
"Sounds good," Emily said breaking me from my thoughts.
"Look I am sorry for pulling you both in this but I just don't know what else to do," I said feeling guilty all over again. I hope I am not putting them in any kind of danger.
"Since when we started with the formalities? No one told me," Edmund said making me chuckle all of sudden. He gave me a small smile adjusting his giant specs.
"Because no one likes you here," Emily said as Edmund frowned at her. I let out a laugh.
"You don't have to be rude always. Besides, people, I am the smartest in the room," Edmund said again dramatically. I was smiling ear to ear by now. I missed this so freaking much. It's like we have used to be serious all the time nowadays since the drama started.
"Says who?" Emily hit him to which he threw an irritated glare.
"It's the universal truth. There is no need to be spoken louder," He said again making a face.
"I was telling you to not involve him," Emily shouted looking at me. I gave her a shrug with a big smile.
"She is clever as she knows that you won't be of much help so who else than me?" Edmund said winking at me. I put on the known smirk as I looked back at him. He put up the hand for high five and I clapped him gladly.
"Faith, just do something about him before I choke him for real," Emily said and we burst into laughter. Emily's frown deepened as she watched us.
"Hold on, Faith. Are you sure you have zeroed down all of the suspects because I think you left one here," Edmund said recovering from the laughter.
"You brat, yes I am the killer and the next victim is going to be you," Emily said getting up and ready to beat Edmund when I felt I heard some footsteps approaching the room. I sat still and looked at the mess we have created. We need to gather everything before someone sees it.
"Shhh... I guess someone is coming," I said holding them both with hands. They stayed still as the sound of footsteps continued until it halted and we heard Emily's mom talking to someone. We let out a sigh of relief.
"Let's grab everything," Emily said in a low voice as we nodded at her and started gathering our belongings and keeping it inside our bags.
"Besides Mr. Wannabe, Aiden is the smartest one out there if you ask me," Emily said again giving Edmund a known look with a smirk. I couldn't agree more. He is the smartest both practically and academically amongst us four or you can say five if we add Ms. Roselia Clerk. But what a shame that he is in a different universe now that he doesn't want to help us. Oh, wait! He was actually helping Faith, but you fucked it all.
"That I won't deny but something is bothering him," Edmund said playing with the pages of a notebook in his hand. No one said anything for a moment and stayed in their own thoughts.
"I guess we need to understand him now as he has always done that for us," Emily said breaking the trail.
"The thing is that Aiden is not listening to us," I said with a frown.
"Should we follow him?" Edmund asked gaining approval from Emily. I would love to but after the last time, I don't think it's the best idea.
"I don't know if it's the best idea as we will be basically left alone in that place owned by Tyler and his family and friends," I said truthfully.
"True but we have to. If not today then tomorrow," Emily said again to which I nodded. Sure! We have to sooner or later.
"We will. Let's get done with Mrs. Wittnakar before she gets away," I said. Edmund and Emily exchanged a look and let out a chuckle.
"Yes," They said saluting me and making me laugh again. We were in our own little world when we heard a knock on the door. We stayed still without moving as if it will help us disappear. Sadly enough the door got knocked on once again followed by a voice.
"Kiddo?" Mr. Moore called from outside. We widened our eyes looking at each other and gathered the remaining things stuffing inside the bags.
"Dad?" Emily called and got from the ground to open the door. Mr. Moore came into our vision as he gave us his best smile. Looking at him now made me rethink about what Emily said about his state. He looked perfectly fine now or maybe he is putting up an act.
"I thought I heard you, kids, in here," he said coming inside looking at us and getting settled on the bed. Edmund and I got up and found the place on nearby chairs as Emily got settled beside her dad.
"Hello, Mr. Moore," Edmund said with a smile. He nodded his head. Something was surely off about his smile. He looked sleep-deprived. The dark circles were visible down his eyes and he just missed that bright smile. So he is indeed putting up an act to look fine.
"How have you been doing, Faith and Edmund?" he asked again.
"We are great, sir," I said with a formal smile.
"So how did it feel getting suspended? Long holiday, huh?" he said again making us chuckle a little. No one said anything so he went ahead.
"That's fine. One should have all the experiences," he said smiling himself.
"So what are you up to?" he asked. We exchanged a look and stopped at him again.
"Nothing much. Just catching up as tomorrow is school," Edmund managed to say.
"How is work going?" he asked again changing the topic. The boy got brave all of sudden. I was impressed. I fixed my gaze on Mr. Moore as he let out a sigh.
"This killer is getting on my nerves now," he said shaking his head a little, "Thomas Gracias, George Doppler. I don't find anything common in them." I nodded my head being in my thoughts.
"Maybe as Evans says the killings are random like how it happened before," he said ahead. William Evans! He is the one saying he searched the whole forest after that window incident. As Mr. Moore said before he is the one who suggested that it is the same psycho from the past after looking at George. I don't know who to trust and who to not.
"So, you believe he is the same from before?" I asked carefully.
"Maybe," Mr. Moore said with a nod, "Everything is the exact same way," he was gone into his thoughts again. I looked at Edmund who didn't look convinced by the answer.
"Are you doing fine?" Mr. Moore asked again as I diverted my attention back to him, "I heard someone tried to barge in."
"Yes, it was scary but I guess I am good now," I said giving him a small smile. He nodded with a small smile.
"Sorry, I got busy so had to send Evans to you else I would have come by myself," he said again. I nodded in understanding. Here comes William Evans again.
"That's fine," I said with a smile so he won't feel bad about it as I went ahead, "I heard they found nothing inside the woods."
"Yeah!" he said paying half attention as he drifted again in some thoughts. I again looked around at Emily and Edmund who just stayed seated in their positions.
"Anyway, enough of this depressing stuff," Mr. Moore said coming to earth again as he smiled at us. He moved his gaze and stopped at Edmund, "I don't see Aiden again?" Edmund looked at me immediately. Useless fellow!
"Busy?" Mr. Moore asked and I could feel the tease. I gave him an apologetic smile.
"He will come next time," Edmund said coming out as useful again.
"I believe your words," Mr. Moore said with a chuckle just when Mrs. Moore came into the room with her ever so bright smile filling the depressing room with brightness.
"Common, I have prepared the lunch," She said letting her gaze wander throughout the room.
"We should get going," Edmund said looking at me as I gave him a nod forgetting the fact that I am not allowed to go outside unless someone comes to pick me up.
"I have prepared for all. Faith, your mom would be picking you up. Let's grab something till then," she said again and I just couldn't refuse anymore. I got no reason to do so. Besides, I love the food she makes.
"Okay," I said with a smile and gestured Edmund to stay which he obliqued in no time.
We all made our way out of the small room and inside the kitchen as we got settled on the dining table. Emily helped her mom to take out the dishes and serve the food on our plates until it got overflowed. We chatted and ate until we were not able to move anymore. The laugher would fill the room in between when someone passed some funny comment. I was glad for the change of mood and deciding to come all the way here. It made me put behind the worries and fear for some time at least.
My mom came when we were taking empty dishes to the kitchen. She didn't stay for longer as that's how she is. She doesn't like disturbing people by going to their house. She just says the greetings and makes her way out. I waved bye to Emily as Edmund joined us in the car on the front seat. Mom offered to drop him home as she was worried about him going alone all the way. That was sweet of her.
But my mood got drastic change when the car made a turn and started proceeding towards the hill in the dark forest again.
***************
My eyes shot wide as if I felt something closer. I moved my gaze to the clock hanging on the wall. It stroke 2:45 in the morning. I had the nightmare again. I heard some noises in it and I felt someone watching me. Someone in the dark. I shifted in my position when I heard the house making the creaking sounds as if it was adjusting itself to the night. The rain was still constant as the droplets hit the closed window glass. The flowing water shone brightly in the yellow gasoline lamplight. I twisted and turned into the bed finding some comfortable spot so I could fall asleep again. But I was wide awake already. The ticking of the clock seemed louder. I took a deep breath and stared ahead in the darkness with nothing particular on my mind. It was blank.
The house made the same creak sound again when reality hit me hard. It wasn't the house that was making sound by adjusting itself but someone was walking through it on the wooden floor. I can clearly hear the footsteps outside. I couldn't tell where they were going but they stopped in between at some distance. I was damn sure it's not my door. I kept my eyes open and moved the comfort around my head as if it will help me in any way. The sweat was forming on my whole body as I breathed heavily. I just hope it was mom or dad or someone from helpers. But why would any helper come on the first floor this late?
My question was answered when I heard a loud shriek. I froze and my mind refused to correspond to anything. It was definitely from mom. Another loud shriek followed as I got up straight on the bed. My body was trembling with fear. It was refusing to move anywhere but I have to. With great efforts, and putting all of the strength I got up from my position and ran towards the door when I heard loud footsteps approaching my room as if someone was running to grab the door and open it. The thought made me feel sick and scared like shit. I heard the footsteps coming closer with each passing sound. The only thing I can think about at this moment was to shut my door and lock it. I did as suggested by my brain. The next moment someone pushed the door hard. I was scared for my life. I ran towards the telephone to call the only person I could think about and that was Aiden. I put up the receiver but the line was dead. He cut it. What am I suppose to do now? The thudding on the door got louder. He was trying to break the door by pushing it with full force. The tears escaped my eyes as the thudding of the door continued making sure the door would break at any moment. I need to prevent that but how?
I moved my blurry gaze around the room to find something and I did. I ran to the big side table cum cupboard kept beside the door. I made it to the one edge of the table and started pushing it with full force. I don't know from where I got the strength but it moved to my luck. I could see the door getting pushed inside with the loud force the person was applying to it. I kept pushing the table towards the door with the full force until it covered the door. I patted heavily looking at it but I was scared that the table would fall in no time if he pushes it. I need something more. I sniffed hard as the tears were still escaping from my eyes. My eyes landed on the bed which can stop the table from falling and it will lock the door as well. But I can't move the bed. It is too heavy for me. So I found the next option. That is a couch chair. I made my way towards it with a shaky body and pushed the chair to help the giant table so it won't fall. I moved behind taking big steps when the door broke making a huge sound but it stopped from opening it further because of the arrangements I made.
"YOU BITCH!" The wicked sound shouted from the outside sending shivers throughout me. The sound was different and I haven't heard it till now. It was rough. He banged the door which hit the table I kept in between but the table didn't move. I was relieved for a moment but the next moment his voice filled the space.
"Open the door before I move this shit by myself and strangle you," The voice came out a loud yet again. I started crying loudly and sat on the floor holding my ears tight. The loud banging of the door continued and I feared that he will actually move the table away creating the space to enter the room. I started shaking as it got difficult for me to breathe with each passing moment.
"MOVE THIS," He shouted louder this time making me a jerk. I got up and ran towards the window opening it wide. I looked out as the rain hit my face hard making its way inside my room and wetting the whole floor. There was no one outside. I can't see the two security people who are always on the rounds.
"I will kill you, bitch. I told you to stop," the voice shouted again. I was crying loudly.
"HELP! HELP! Ple..." I shouted but my voice got hitched inside my throat. I couldn't shout anymore. The tears were flowing without stopping.
"Please, help," I said but the voice came out lower. I looked beside as the table was starting to move aside now. I moved and trembled on my own feet with fear making the worst of me. My body felt heavy as it stopped responding to my brain. It was shouting to make an escape but I was frozen. I looked out of the window but I don't think if it was possible for me to jump out. Mainly because of this rain as everything is going to be slippery.
I heard the same creepy laughter which gave me chills in this creepy weather. With great efforts, I looked at the door again only to see a white eye peeking through the creek of the door while a wicked and creepy smile was intact on the face. My gaze just staring at the eye. As if something hit me I remembered it clearly in the window. It was white as milk. No black circle inside it. I felt my whole body cold and shiver with that look. His other side face was hidden behind the door. The light-yellow color falling on the face was making it look more haunted beside that the whole house was in the dark. I shut my eyes close and moved to the side as I got seated on the ground holding my head in between my knees.
"No one is going to come to help the little princess," The wicked voice said again but this time the tone was creepier as the voice got lower, "You know why? Because I already made the king and queen unconscious." he finished and started laughing louder. No, please no! Mom and Dad. I was shaking as the tears escaped. Even in this state, I could picture my mom and dad. Please god, let nothing happen to them.
"They are sleeping peacefully in their room," The voice was dramatic. He banged the door loudly and my biggest fear came alive. The door had enough space so he could come inside. I shrank my body closer to me.
"The security and helpers won't come too," He said making his way inside the room calmly. I moved aside to the dressing table to grab anything. My shaky hand traveled on the surface of the wooden table. I wasn't looking at the person in the room but once I got up, the round mirror gave me a peek and I saw the scariest thing of my life. The hood was on the head covering most of the part as the wide wicked smile was dimly visible. His teeth were black in the middle while he licked on his lower lip in between through that smile giving me shivers. The man was a little older but not too much that all I could tell. I haven't seen him all my life I know that. I definitely haven't met him. My shaky hands got hold of the wooden makeup kit. I held it with both my hands as the figure kept approaching me in the dark. I was sniffing and shaking hard and all I wanted at the moment was mom, dad, Aiden, or Emily, Edmund to find me somehow.
"What will you do?" he asked taking out a string from the pocket of his jacket and holding it with both of the hands, "Call your prince? But how? The phone line is dead," he finished and smiled wickedly. Just when he was a few centimeters away from me I took a swing and flung the makeup kit and hit his face hard showing all my force at once. The body trembled and a loud shriek left his mouth. He fell to the side but managed to cover his face. I started running out of the door but he grabbed me by my hair as I whined loudly. He pulled me inside the room again throwing me on the bed.
"YOU RED BITCH," he shouted with all of the rage left inside him. I looked at him with fear but he was in between the light and me covering himself with the shadow. He approached me with heavy steps and got on the bed and above me in no time.
"Please..." I broke as the tears were flooding my eyes. My mind was blank and my heart was thudding loudly. I just lied below his large body as he put his hands on my neck and started putting the pressure there making me chock. I moved my hands and legs rapidly to get out of it but his grip got stronger. I hit him with all the left energy but he was too strong.
"You should have stopped when I asked you too," he said. I opened my mouth wide to take the air inside my lungs. My eyes were wide as the tears escaped them. I made an attempt and poked my nails inside his flesh making him bleed. But it had no effect on him.
"Who are you trying to fool around? I know what you did there with that blonde and nerd," he said again, "A little birdie told me."
It was getting harder for me to breathe now. The darkness started filling my vision.
"I promised him that I won't kill you but you just provoked me," he said when the sound of sirens filled the silence. The red lights filled the room. I could feel the grip of his hand loosen up.
"Holy shit," he got up from above me as I started coughing hard taking all the oxygen inside me. "I am going to kill you sooner or later. Just be prepared," The man said and ran to the window and jumped outside in no time. I kept on coughing as the tears continuously kept on coming out.
I heard the footsteps inside the house. I was just lying on the bed in the same position crying loudly and taking the oxygen in.
"Faith," I heard mom. But didn't have the strength to get up or even look at her.
"Move aside, ma'am," someone else said which was followed with the sounds of furniture moving. I heard mom running towards me.
"Oh my god, Faith," she said pulling my whole body into hers and keeping me in her arms. I started crying loudly at the top of my lungs holding her tightly as she moved her hand through my hair, "I am so sorry," she said.
"I am so scared, mom," I shouted. Mom was sniffing herself but didn't let me go. I kept holding on her as if I lose the grip he might come again. I was scared. I was so scared that I just wanted to get out of this town tonight itself.
"Nothing will happen to you, I promise," she said in a low voice as her voice started breaking. She was crying by now as well.
"You were really brave, Ms. Anderson," I heard a voice and with great difficulty, I managed to look at the face. It was him. William Evans. Looking down at me with a small smile as his face that creeped me out in that red light.
