Chapter 26 - The Devil has another side
Callahan's POV
I sat on the leather chair of the office and I looked around the decor. It wasn't to my liking at all. I will tell Hiriotus(Mr Denver) to change it for me. I had already told him to change the door and he did it perfectly.
I had already distributed the tasks among the workers and now I had nothing to do. Other than some of the businesses here but that can wait since I need to do my actual work in Hell.
I was about to go when a knock came and I knew who it was. Emily Williams. I could feel the lust sipping out of her. Nice!
Her dirty thoughts could be heard from here and I knew why she was coming.
But I sensed another emotion that spread across my whole body and that wasn't from Emily. If I was feeling that much strength in those emotions, it only meant it was from Carson. There was a mixture of anger, sadness and insecurity but there was another emotion slightly poking through all of those. A little weak but I could feel it. It was tender and soft yet painful. I could not decipher what that was.
But the question was, why was Carson feeling these? Did Emily say something? It wouldn't be a shock because that girl only wants money, power and fame and above all she wanted everything that Carson had. There was a kind of jealousy that I see in humans. It amuses me.
Emily didn't even know why she felt hatred and jealousy toward Carson yet she would go for anything. It was more like an obsession of hers.
"Come in." I said as the woman entered. Her whole body felt dipped in lust. As soon as our eyes met, her heartbeat rose and colors added to her cheeks.
"Sir, I have done the files. Can you kindly check those?" She asked with a ringing voice and that confidence in her steps made me think why men would jump on each word she said.
She knew how to play them like she batted her eyelashes feigning how she was sending signals without her knowledge. She could be a good asset...later.
She handed me the files as I checked them and she undoubtedly did a great job.
'I would snatch him away from her. How could she get a guy like him?' Her thoughts came into my mind.
I smirked to myself.
She stood there while I checked the file. More thoughts came into me. She was thinking about how to degrade Carson so I could start disliking her. She thought of the moves she would make on me and the things she would do to break Carson.
I scoffed and that got her attention.
"Is there any problem?" She asked concerned but the concern wasn't for the files.
"Are you even aware that all you think about is only Carson?" I asked as I placed the file on the desk.
She blinked at me. She couldn't understand what I asked.
"Err... Sir, what do you mean by that?" She chuckled nervously but I could feel she wasn't nervous but shocked. She was debating in herself if what I said was truly what she heard or not.
"Why do you hate Carson?" I asked and that made her eyes round and she stood there frozen.
"I-I don't hate her." She chuckled and said, "Is that what Carson told you about me?"
"She has been just a little angry with me. That is the reason she told you that I guess?" She added.
I gave her a smile as my palms clasped together.
"You know, Emily, you amuse me." I said as the corners of my lips curled up and she thought she got a chance but the words froze her.
"You amuse me greatly but not as much as Carson." I said and her face fell. Anger shot through her but she didn't let it show it on her face.
I could see all she had done up until now for the sake of that jealousy she felt toward Carson. Even seducing Devis. The moment Carson cracked the deal, she saw the yearning for Carson in Devis's eyes. She was trying to get her promotion yet Carson snatched it away. Jealousy and hatred drove her to lust and now she was epitome of lust.
"I don't understand why you are talking about Carson to me?" She said still maintaining her delicate posture.
"Because you miss no chance to harm her and I am not pleased about it at all."
"I-when did I ever harm her?"
I laughed. Was she seriously going to feign everything? "The pen drive." I said and she froze.
"If-if Carson told you that then you can ask her to give a proof."
"I don't need proof. I can tell it but," I tapped on the keyboard and followed through some security footage and opened it as I turned around the laptop. "If you want a proof, there is one."
As soon as the video footage played, the ground beneath Emily's feet evaporated. She looked at me with a horror struck face.
"Devis might overlook it but not me, Emily." I smiled, "I am not Devis."
My sentence told her that her seducing techniques won't work on me ever. If I was Devis then might have been but then I was Callahan and I would always know when and what they were trying to accomplish.
But right now, I needed to see what Carson was trying to accomplish because I kept getting her overwhelming feelings and it was making me a bit restless. I needed to check on her.
"Why?" Emily's voice caught my attention as I looked at her. "Why are you all so intrigued by her? What does she have? She is a dense girl yet everyone is so into her that it makes me mad!" Emily clenched her fists on both sides of her.
That was true. She certainly was a dense girl who didn't understand if anyone was trying to make a move on her or if anyone was trying to harm her. But from what I could tell, Carson never thought of harming others. All she was trying to live her life on her terms. Maybe that was the reason they were attracted to her.
"Because she is my girlfriend." I didn't give her a straight answer and added, "Don't ever try to harm her in any way."
I warned her. "Otherwise the consequences wouldn't be good."
She looked at me with her wide eyes and I could hear her heartbeat.
"Now, get out. I am busy." I said and she left immediately as if her tail caught fire.
I went toward the door and saw Carson was typing at a fast pace and she was so focused that she wasn't even looking at anyone. What was she feeling a few moments ago? I shrugged at my thought.
Since we had enough time before lunch, I thought it would be good to go check out my hell-ish work.
I came back after the lunch hour started. As I looked at the human time, I saw I was ten minutes late. Carson might have been gone to have lunch. I concentrated on her energy and found out she was still at her desk. She hadn't brought any lunch with her then what was she having?
I opened the door and my eyes found her still typing on her screen.
My lips pursed as annoyance took birth in me. I got it she was a workaholic but skipping meals, I didn't like that. I went near her desk as some of the clarks were leaving or coming after buying food. Their eyes were on me but I didn't care.
I reached her desk and coughed. She was so into the work, she didn't hear. Great!
I looked at the files and saw she had done two of them already and it was the last one she was trying to complete. Wait! Had she been thinking to complete that before lunch?!
I tapped my foot and when I was certain that her attention wasn't going to break any time soon, I placed my hands on her desk, bending my back.
I peered at the screen as her focus broke and finally, she looked at me with wide round eyes.
Not bad." I said, nodding in appreciation, "That was fast."
Well, I was a bit impressed because I thought it would keep her busy till 5p.m. but she had almost completed her work. There were hardly a few pages left.
"Let's go have lunch." I said and she raised a brow. It seemed like she hadn't noticed yet that it was lunch hours already.
Her eyes moved to the clock and a large gap parted her face in two. She just realized that she worked through the whole lunch hour. There were only ten minutes left. I was glad she noticed that.
Her gazes fell on people around us and then her eyes followed the papers that laid on the desk. I could hear her thoughts. She was thinking of finishing those.
"Don't even think of it." I warned her.
"Don't read my thoughts!" She shouted with a low voice.
"Then come have lunch. You need to eat if you want to keep going." I said in a calm voice because I was beginning to get irritated. I had clearly told her that time when she was about to hit against the truck that she needed to take good care of her but whenever her work came, she would ditch everything. It made me irked a bit. Especially when someone disobeys me.
"But I only have like a few files-"
"Carson..." My eyes moved down at her and I stood straight. My serious tone made her a bit rigid and I could hear a heart beating loudly. Good! "If you don't want me to delete those files and make you do them again, then come have lunch."
I threatened her knowing so well that was the only way she would do it. Otherwise she would become strangely stubborn and I feel myself breaking her slowly. And I didn't wanna make her see that side of mine.
It was better if she didn't see that side otherwise she wouldn't be comfortable around me anymore.
It seemed like she gave in and knew that I would do it if she didn't listen, she nodded and we went to have our lunch.
