Chapter Nine | Truth Be Told

My head is killing me... Why do I feel so nauseous?

I shot out of bed, rushing to the bathroom as fast as I could and leaning over the toilet as vomit hurled out of my throat. I groaned when it finally stopped, and heard someone tsk three times behind me. Without looking, I flipped off Viv.

"I don't know what you think I did, you went and got drunk all on your own," she said with a calm collective voice. The next thing I knew, she was holding some water out to me, "Swish, then do mouthwash or your breath will stink, and nobody likes that," I glared at her, but did as she told me, spitting out the water into the sink to get the rest of the puke out of my mouth before swishing some mouthwash.

Once I was all good and taken care of and could no longer taste my insides in my mouth, Viv sat me down on the couch, handing me a plate of toast with strawberry jam on it.

"Now, you want to tell me why you drank yourself into a black abyss of angels?" she asked. I looked up at her, eyes wide.

"W-What?" I asked. Did I say something to her about me being an angel? Oh, God, what if I showed her my wings? This is a disaster already. I'm never getting drunk again.

"Relax. I don't know what you're hiding, but when you were drunk all you kept talking about was God and angels and how Troy's an angel named Raguel or some bull and Lucifer Morningstar's the devil and now you're an angel--his guardian angel to be exact."

"Viv, look, I can explain-"

"Good, I hoped you could. So what do those metaphors mean?" I blinked at her. She thought they were metaphors... She thought I was covering something else in my life up with metaphors about me being an angel and Lucifer being the devil.

"What?" I couldn't help but ask as I tried to process.

"What do the metaphors mean?" she asked, only slower this time, "Did Lucifer hurt you?"

"What? No, he's been nothing but amazing to me, other than being a cocky jerk sometimes," I shook my head.

"Then why would you call him the devil?"

In this situation, I had two options--come clean about everything, show my wings, and quite possibly lose my best friend, or continue to cover up everything that's been going on in my life...

"Viv, I-" before I could finish, there was a knock on the door. Viv immediately turned to the door.

"We're busy!" She screamed at whoever might be out there, then turned back around with nothing less of an angelic smile, "Continue."

"I-" and again, a knock, "Give me one minute," I said, standing from the couch and making my way towards the door. I opened it to see Lucifer standing there, looking as nice as ever, wearing all black, "Luci-"

"Come on, we think we may have the killer, and I need to meet the Detective there. Can't be late," he grabbed onto my hand, starting to pull me along with him. I turned one glance at Viv and stopped in my tracks, causing him to look at me with furrowed brows, "Sorry, was I interrupting something?"

"Yes," Viv said, standing up from the couch and making her way to me, grabbing my empty hand and trying to pull me inside, "You had your time with her, now it's my turn," she said. I gulped, knowing how this was going to go down almost before it even happened. Lucifer let go of my hand and nodded.

"I see, well, if that's what you want, Angel, go ahead. I just thought you might want to hear about my genius deduction skills and how I figured out Ty's agent was the killer, with the help of the Detective, that is," honestly, it sounded intriguing, but I didn't care about that so much as just wanting to keep him out of trouble. I looked back at Viv, who had this indescribable look on her face, as if she could tell I wanted to go with him, but she couldn't believe it. Hesitantly, she let go of my hand, backing up to the doorframe.

"Go," she said, an obviously forced smile appearing on her face, "I'll be here when you get back."

"Viv, I'm so sorry. When I get back, I'll tell you everything. No more secrets," I said, though even I wondered how I was getting out of that one.

"You better! And bring me pistachio ice cream to make up for it!"

"That stuff is disgusting; the real reason I'm going is to get away from whoever eats that garbage," I joked and she laughed, rolling her eyes, before going back into the house and shutting the door. I turned back to Lucifer, who once again proceeded to pull me in the direction of his little black car. I hopped in and he started it in silence. I looked over at him through my lashes, trying to hide the fact that I was looking at him, "Do you think I shouldn't tell her?" I asked, seeming to catch him off guard.

"Oh, no, quite the contrary actually. I think you should be open and honest about who you are, to your friend and to yourself," for some reason, even though I knew his intention by saying that wasn't to be super deep and meaningful, it felt like it. I looked down at my hands as he sped down the road, claiming he was "Making up for lost time" when I asked him to slow down.

We arrived at a large agency building, where Chloe was waiting. She told us they were currently having a meeting, with Joe (Ty's agent) and Ty, and a few other top sport people. I didn't understand most of the names she used, because I don't care much for sports. She told us the plan, which was to pretend we were bringing Ty back because Debra(Ty's ex who Joe had thrown under the bus) had a "friend's alibi", though they had seen her real alibi on tape. Chloe was sure if he thought there was no proof of Debra being at the party (that she went to before the death) he'd place himself at the party. It was a full proof plan, and man, did it work.

By the time the other officers on sight were taking Ty out of the room, Joe had placed himself at the crime scene, then told us he didn't say anything before because he had lied to his wife about it.

"That's the proof you need, right?"

"That's the proof we need. We have a sworn statement from Ronnie Hillman saying that you hired the victim to make a sex tape with Ty to Blackmail him," I assumed Ronnie Hillman was the woman I'd seen the night before, "I just needed to place you at the scene," Chloe finished.

"Yeah, see that's why I don't lie. It's so hard to keep track of who knows what," Lucifer said, to which Joe shook his head as if in disbelief.

"It's not true. I only want what's best for you, Ty."

"You know, I still don't understand. Why is it my own agent would want to blackmail me?" This is the question I was thinking, but was too much of a background character to ask.

"Because he thought eventually you were gonna leave him," Chloe explained, and I made an o shape with my mouth, holding in any kind of external noise I wanted to make.

"What? Because I took one meeting with another agency?" Ty asked. Joe looked away, almost like he was ashamed. A dead giveaway that Lucifer and Chloe were correct, "Joe... I only did that to make Debra happy."

"But even though you'd broken up, he knew you'd get back together, so he decided to strike first to get some leverage," and this is where the man in front of us really started to crack.

"If he left me, I would be ruined. I mean, do you understand? He is my Brady, my Manning," Joe defended.

"But Ali wasn't cut out for this sort of thing, was she? She didn't want to give you the video," Lucifer continued, trying to get into Joe's head for a true confession, and it seemed to be working.

"Stupid bitch!" he turned and walked away as he continued explaining, "She said she realized Ty was a good guy. She didn't want to go through with it."

"Her name was Ali Thornton, and you killed her. For what? Greed? Ego?" with every word that came out of Lucifer's mouth, there was more and more malic.

"I didn't want to hurt her. I just wanted her phone. And," he sighed, seemingly trying to think of the right thing to say next, "But I squeezed too hard."

Wow... Just... Wow...

"I'm done. Forget this. I'm out of here," he started to walk out. Did this man really think he could just leave after confessing to murder in front of the LAPD, and Lucifer?! Before he could make three steps, Lucifer grabbed onto the mans lapels and in one swift movement, threw him through a window. I let out a shriek as I ran in front of Lucifer.

"Did I squeeze too hard?" the anger was evident on his face, so much so that I didn't know what to do to stop him from going complete devil on this man. I grabbed onto Lucifer's jacket as he walked forward, causing me to stumble backwards. His eyes weren't on me, they were on Joe, and there was torture dancing around in them. All the things I could think of him doing to this killer and I probably didn't even graze the surface of what was going on in his mind.

"Lucifer, look at me," his eyes flickered down, but only for a moment before back to Joe as he took one more step, "Lucifer you have to stop. This is not the right way to go about this," I spoke softly, trying anything I could to soothe him out of his anger. He finally looked down at me and his eyes stayed there as his look softened. He let out a soft chuckle and nodded a bit.

"Yes, of course. Good thing I brought you along, then, my guardian Angel," he said, and I looked back over at Chloe, who was staring at the scene in front of her with many emotions on her face, but the most noticeable one was shock. Lucifer turned to her, "Your turn, Detective."

After that, Joe was arrested and Ty thanked Lucifer as we all watched Joe go. Then Debra ran through the crowd and Ty joined her in one big kiss, almost like the end of some dumb rom com, but this didn't feel like a rom com. Lucifer had just thrown a man through a window an hour before all this.

"Warms the cockles, doesn't it?"

"If you ever say cockles again, I'm going to kick you in your cockles," I threatened the man standing beside me, but he just nodded.

Afterwards he had a nice little chat with Chloe that ended nicely... If nicely means she basically told him he did nothing but harm for the entire case, Then we went to his car.

"I need to go back home, I need to talk to Viv," I said, looking at Lucifer.

"So you're saying you don't want to go to a therapy session with me?" he asked, an almost offended look on his features.

"No, sorry, not this one. I've been gone long enough, but thanks for the invite buddy," I replied, patting him on the shoulder, to which he looked over as if nobody had ever touched his shoulder, before simply smiling at me and starting the car.

"Fine. Have it your way."

The drive home, I just picked at my wrists, trying to come up with something to tell Viv that would be the truth and yet believable, but I couldn't think of anything. Everything in my brain was telling me to lie completely, make up some totally wrong, but believable story, though everything in my heart told me to tell her the complete truth, no metaphors, no diversions. The complete truth of the situation.

And when I'd walked my way up to my door, I knew what I had to do. I opened the door.

"Viv?" sure enough, she popped her head up from the couch, a ramen noodle sticking part of the way out of her red lips, "I'm ready to tell you... Everything."
