G-6 Marine Base and the Ice-Ice Devil Fruit
The whole crew splits up, leaving the Merry behind. The person closest person to me was Sanji, so I grabbed him and flew up out of view from any spotlights and people's eyes. I fly us over to the forest area of the weird island. Emerald flies beside me.
"Looks like there's no way out," I say, looking around. "The only exit is through that giant gate over there."
"Well, look at that. We've landed in another fine mess haven't we?" Sanji grins, taking a puff of his cigarette.
"No kidding," I sigh. "Sorry, I didn't mean to bring the ship down right into a military base."
"It's not your fault, my sweet Fia!" Sanji coos.
"If we get everyone back on the ship, I can fly us out of here," I say, landing us in a tree to hide from the scouting marines that're walking around the premises. Emerald lands on my shoulder.
"You're so strong, beautiful!"
A bullet almost grazes Sanji's cheek, and I quickly move us behind the tree.
"What is it?" one of the two marines questions the marine who shot.
"Well, I thought I saw a light in the tree," the second marine answers.
"I don't see anything," the first says, turning around. They both leave.
Sanji grunts, putting his cigarette out on the tree. "I can't even smoke in peace."
"Come on," I say, turning. "I smell Luffy nearby."
"You... smell Luffy nearby?"
"Haven't I told you I have a really good nose?"
"You don't really talk about yourself," Sanji says. "Aaah, I wish you would smell me out too!"
"Fair enough," I respond and begin walking. "And I'm not gonna comment on that."
We encounter Luffy and head inside the base. We follow behind a marine. Luffy ends up scaring him.
Sanji walks out after the marine decides to just continue and ignore the steps behind him.
"That idiot. Can't he take something seriously for once?" Sanji huffs.
I chuckle. "I think it's amusing."
"You're so cute when you laugh, Fia!"
We manage to get into the vents and spy on marines rushing beneath us.
"So this is the famous Navarone marine base," I say, laying on top of the now sleeping Luffy and peeking out of the vent grate with Sanji.
"The invincible fortress," Sanji sighs. He looks up. "So, what's our next move, Captain..." He sees him asleep. "As usual our captain could care less..." He sees me on him. "Lucky bastard doesn't even realize..."
We continue crawling through the vents, finding another grate with a few marines walking alone.
"I tell you what, all this ghost ship shenanigans has really got me beat," one says.
"Let's get something to eat then get back to work," the other one says.
Sanji removes the grate. "Ghost ship, huh?"
Luffy leans his head out. "Did you find us something to eat?"
"It sounds like the dining hall is that way," Sanji says.
"Dining hall?!" Luffy shouts, jumping out only to be grabbed by the ankle by Sanji and making him stretch and smack his head on the floor.
"Hold on a second!" Sanji says.
"What are you doing?!" Luffy growls, looking up at him in annoyance.
"Take it easy," Sanji huffs.
"My belly needs meat now!"
We end up hiding in a closet and getting into marine chef clothes. Luffy bursts into the dining hall, making everyone turn to look at all of us.
"You're the new chefs?" one cook calls out. "Well? Are you the Murray brothers or not?"
"Hi!" Luffy greets.
Everyone glares and says some rude commentary about these Murray brothers to Sanji and Luffy's faces. I shuffle to the side unnoticed to make some sugar water for Emerald.
A female voice cuts through everyone though. "So you're here? The world famous kitchen snobs who made million berry meals every night for all the big shots over in Mary Geoise? I don't care that head quarters sent you, this is the most sacred place in all of Navarone. And if I don't approve of you, you will never set foot in here again. Do I make myself clear?"
We learn her name is Jessica. Luffy drools over the food she's cooking. Sanji is obviously drooling over Jessica herself. Sanji ends up doing a short competition against all the chefs.
I throw up a little in my mouth. "Sanji."
"Yes, my beautiful?"
"If you ever give me chopped up bones and guts as food, I will slowly skin you alive, chop it to bits, and feed you to the fish."
"Don't worry my sweet! I only give those to the other crewmates! My girls always get the best parts!"
"Good," I sigh.
Luffy ends up eating all 100 dishes of food that the chefs made. All the chefs drool and dig into Sanji's food.
We try to leave, but Jessica manages to hold us back, saying that we're part of the team.
"And a question," Jessica says.
"Anything for you sweet Jessica!"
She points at me. "I know the two of you are the Murray brothers, but who is she?"
"Me? I'm..." I look to Sanji and decide against it then look to Luffy. I sigh. "I'm his wife. I help prepare meals."
Sanji and Luffy gape at me.
Sanji turns and bites his thumb, crouching on the floor and mumbling. "Lucky bastard..."
"You're not–"
I slap a hand over Luffy's mouth, moving in and looking as if I'm kissing his cheek. "Play along please, Captain. I'll catch you a giant sea monster for Sanji to cook up just for you to eat if you play along," I whisper.
He grins, eyes shining. "Yosh!"
I smile, kissing his cheek. We turn to Jessica with smiles.
"Well, how about we get you started on cutting up the onions to start cooking for the next hundred soldiers," Jessica says.
"Yes, beautiful!" Sanji salutes.
"You're an idiot," I sigh.
~~~
"Really. What are we still doing hanging around here?" Sanji grunts as he cuts onions. "We don't even know if Robin or Nami are out of harms way." He sighs. "I just can't abandon the task that Jessica gave me."
I roll my eyes and watch as Luffy burns his finger on the oven cause he's nosy. Emerald is perched on the small bowl of sugar water I made her, taking sips every once in a while.
"Got that right!" Luffy says, pulling out a dial.
Sanji turns around. "What are you doing you idiot?!" He turns back around to continue to cut onions.
"Huh? I don't know. Have you seen how awesome this thing is?" Luffy asks.
"Yes, I've seen how awesome your thing is."
I chuckle. "That's what she said..."
"Now help me figure out how to get out of here," Sanji huffs.
"Oh, yeah. How come we're just sitting around here in this stupid kitchen?"
"We're still here because you haven't figured out a way for us to escape!"
"Hey, Sanji?"
"What now?"
"Do you think someone can eat a raw octopus?" Luffy asks.
"What does that have to do with anything!?" Sanji shouts.
"How's it coming?" Jessica asks, walking up to us. "Are you done yet? If you don't hurry we won't be ready for the next hundred soldiers."
Sanji's eyes immediately become hearts. "Oh my sweet Jessica! I just finished the onions!"
Luffy grins. "Well it looks like it's just about break time! I'm beat!"
Sanji immediately turns to him in rage. "You haven't done anything yet!"
"Since you're so eager to help, I have another 300 onions here for you," Jessica says, patting the bucket of onions.
"More?!" Luffy cries out surprised. "You gotta be kidding me!"
"I'm ever your humble servant, sweet Jessica!" Sanji smiles.
Luffy looks to him and points. "Hey! I think I know why we're stuck in the kitchen, and it's all your fault!"
I sigh, taking out my swords. "We don't have time for this." I kick the bucket of onions in the air and slice all the onions, separating the skin from the editable part and have them all land sliced up into the bin they were originally in.
"Whoa! That was so awesome!" Luffy shouts starstruck.
"Now, let's go," I huff.
"Wow, I'm impressed," Sanji says, looking at the sliced onions. "You're so amazing Fia!"
We end up cooking more and more until Luffy ends up taking food to the base commander... and gets found out. We manage to escape and end up learning that Usopp and Zoro have been caught. We end up finding where they were being kept. Luffy touches the bars and passes out because they're sea prism. We get surrounded by marines on both sides.
Sanji ends up kicking the bars to see how strong they are.
"Oh, man, that's one tough cage," Sanji comments.
"A cannon," Usopp murmurs, overhearing a soldier say a cannon could get through them. "That's it! Sanji!" He shuffles to stand in front of us. "I think I know what will do the trick! Reach into my pocket!"
"What for?" Sanji asks.
"I have an impact dial in there."
I scoff. "We don't have time for that. Stand back."
Usopp immediately complies and shuffles back. "What are you gonna do?"
I grin before I wound up my leg and kick the bars right out of the ground. I end up over doing it and explode the rock walls around too, making everyone get covered in debris and making the marines trapped.
"Oops..."
"What the hell?!" Sanji, Usopp, and Zoro shout at me.
I shrug. "Sorry, I put too much power in that kick. My bad."
"What the hell kind of power is that?!"
I find Usopp's bag and Zoro's swords and throw them to them. "Come on, let's go!"
Zoro ends up leading the way, and we end up getting lost. After some complications, we eventually are all regrouped, save Robin, at the Going Merry and surrounded by marines. We end up getting on the ship as we all act as if Nami is a hostage. Robin ends up swinging herself onto the ship as we sail along. The marines took all our cannon balls, so Luffy ends up using the ones the marines are shooting us with and redirects them to explode the gate. The whole area gets covered in smoke.
Nami suddenly screams as she realizes the treasure we got is all gone. "We've been had!"
"Nami, this whole ship is literally covered in gold," I say. "I think we can spare a few little treasures."
"No! We're not leaving till I get my treasure!"
I sigh. "Alright, I'll be right back then." I unfurl my wings and speed off to where I know they have the gold, using the smoke as cover. I gather it up and bring it back to the ship. "Here."
"Are you telling me you could've gotten them that easily before?!" Nami shouts.
"I move fast," I shrug, making my way to the back of the ship. "Now, let me get us out of here just as fast." I begin to push the ship and speed out quickly before the marine ships can get through.
...
After a few days, we meet the Foxy pirates. Hell, that was annoying. After that was a problem when everyone, but Robin and I, lost their memories from before they joined the crew. For Luffy it was before he started his journey. Then we meet up with the annoying Foxy pirates again and beat them again.
Now we're here on an uninhabited island. Though from what I sense and smell, there's a few stranded people.
We arrive and have lunch before heading into the forest and getting whatever other food we could find to stock up.
"Hey, Chopper, did you find any new herbs you can use?" Usopp asks.
"Mmmhmm, this place has all sorts of neat stuff," he smiles. "I got a good stock, but I'm still looking in case I miss something. Which reminds me, I noticed something weird a second ago." He looks to the ground. "There's a little grove along the trail here. I wonder what it is."
Usopp looks. "Ah, you're right. That is weird. Looks like... a bicycle came through here or something."
"Come on, that doesn't make any sense," Sanji says. "There's nobody else on the island. Why would there be a bicycle?"
"Actually, there are people here, but I don't think they mean to be here," I speak up.
"What?! How do you know that?!" Usopp shouts.
"I can smell them."
"What? How?"
"I have a really good nose."
"Hey check it out! We're almost through the jungle!" Luffy calls out.
We end up in a big open area of the forest.
"Aah!" Chopper says and rushes to the giant rock in the center.
"What he so excited about?" Luffy asks.
"I don't know," Zoro answers. "Maybe he found some herbs."
I see the afro like hair sticking out from behind the top of the rock.
Luffy seems to spot it too. "Chopper, you cheater! You were gonna hog that big mushroom for yourself! Get back here!" He drops the bag he's carrying and chases after Chopper.
Chopper giggles in return and rushes around the corner only to run into something and gets thrown backwards. Everyone rushes over preparing for a fight. We turn to see the giant man behind the rock to find the marine admiral Aokiji. The user of the ice ice Devil fruit and one of the strongest men in the marines. Robin panics at the sight of him and falls to the ground. He seems to know her too.
Aokiji is laidback and isn't on orders to catch us, so he doesn't do anything. The people stranded on the island, who were watching nearby decide to come out and ask for help. Chopper heals them up and Sanji cooks everyone some more food. We get the people packed with supplies and Aokiji makes a path for them across the sea with his ice, shocking everyone.
After that Aokiji decides that he's changed his mind. That causes Robin, Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy to fight him only to have wherever they hit him freeze over. He ends up completely freezing Robin. Luffy decides to take on Aokiji and have everyone head back to the ship.
I stop in the forest and watch the others rush off. I turn into my demon form and head back to Luffy, knowing he's frozen. Before Aokiji crushes Luffy, I slam into him. He flies far back to the ground.
"You will not hurt this crew," I growl. "It is under my protection."
Aokiji groans and looks to me. "Ugh, what the hell..." His face morphs into total shock. "The D-D-Demon..."
"Have I made myself clear?"
"Why? You haven't been seen for almost 30 years! What's so special about this crew? What reason do you have to protect it?"
"Continue to chase this crew down, you'll deal with me."
"You have to be over 90 years old! How are you still so young?"
I smirk. "Wouldn't you like to know?"
"Who are you watching over that's on that crew?"
"None of your business." I begin to melt the ice on Luffy's body. "Leave and I won't kill you."
His eyes narrow at me. "I know when I don't stand a chance. I'll leave." He turns and walks off.
I return to my normal form and finish melting the ice off Luffy.
"Luffy! Fia?" Sanji and Zoro call out, rushing out from the jungle. "What happened?" They glare at each other. "Stop copying what I'm saying! Stop!"
"Luffy lost. I just finished defrosting him," I tell them, unfurling my wings. "He should wake up any second. Grab my legs, I'll fly us back to the ship."
We head back, and I head in to defrost Robin as well.
~~~
Night falls quickly and everyone, even Emerald, is fast asleep, except Robin who lies awake in her bed. It was decided that we would stay here for a couple days for Robin and Luffy to rest.
I'm currently sitting on the head of the ship. "Hey, Merry. I wish we could save you. I know soon you aren't going to be able to sail much longer, you're too banged up. The gold covering can only save you for so long. After I heard Usopp talk about someone fixing the ship a little more up at Skypiea, I knew that you had come alive. They really do love you a lot, don't they?"
"Yes, and I love them too," she answers. "Thank you."
I smile. "You're welcome, little ship." I stand up.
"You should tell them about you," she says. "They'll accept you."
I give a sad smile. "Maybe. Have a good rest, Merry. We can talk more tomorrow." I head into the kitchen where everyone is sleeping to see Robin awake. "Can't sleep?"
"Ah, Fia."
I chuckle. "It's funny. You call everyone by what they do. Zoro's the swordsman, Sanji is cook, Nami is navigator, etc etc. You haven't given me one though."
"I haven't really seen what you can do yet, but I assume swordswoman will work."
I chuckle again. "Guess that's fitting."
"Why are you awake still?"
"I don't sleep," I answer, making my way over to grab a bottle of wine. "What's eating you up? Aokiji?"
She sighs. "Yes."
"I assume this has to deal with your past. You were the only survivor of Ohara, so you're a bit traumatized because Aokiji was there." I take a swig from the bottle.
She gapes at me. "H-How do you–"
"I've looked into everyone who gets on this ship," I cut her off. "You, Sanji, and Nami seem to have the worst backstories for how you got here."
"How do you–"
"Know? Would you believe me if I told you that I was there?"
"That's ...impossible."
"I'm much older than I look," I respond. "But, no, I wasn't there. I learned it from the marines."
"You were in the marines?"
"Oh, no. I meant that I heard it from them. I've infiltrated a lot of marine bases in my time and learned all the secrets they've kept. I know all about CP9 too. I even met your mother at some point."
"You... really met my mother?"
"Yeah, her name was Olvia," I say, taking another swig. "She mentioned you to me when I had her at her weakest point. Anyway, I know all about you Nico Robin. You don't have to worry when the truth comes out to the rest of the crew. They don't care about your past. They care about the now and how you present yourself currently. You're a part of this crew and that won't change no matter how hard you try to get rid of them. They will always come back."
"How do you know that?"
"I know a good crew when I see one," I grin and stand up. "Get some sleep, archeologist. My defrosting will make you feel better by tomorrow."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
"How did you run off Aokiji?"
"Let's just say we have a guardian watching over us. Get some rest, you need it."
~~~Elsewhere~~~
"The Straw Hats are off in your direction to Water 7. They also have an old guardian you might've heard of quite a long time ago. Ever heard of the Demon?" Aokiji asks, speaking into his transponder snail.
"You have to be a crazy loser to never of heard of the Demon," Spandam's voice comes back.
"Well, it seems that she's protecting the Straw Hats crew."
"WHAT?! Are you certain?!"
"Saw her with my own two eyes. She doesn't look any older from the last time I saw her over 30 years ago."
"That's impossible!!! She's got to be well over 90!"
"I had the same thought."
"If she's still alive then her bounty should double! She too dangerous for this world!"
"There must be someone specific on that ship that she's watching over. You need to find that out. I'm sure you'll get to meet soon."
