Grabbing my phone, I shot off two texts. The first to Gretchen: 'i love you <3.' The second to Lily: 'we need to talk. right now. where are you?'

To my surprise, both responded immediately, even though it was the dead of night.

Gretchen: 'love you too <3'

Lily: 'took you long enough. come on over to my place.'

Quickly I got dressed, took a quick piss, thenwent downstairs and left Mom a generic note letting her know I was out on bandbusiness. I knew she'd still worry if I was still gone by the time she woke up,but hopefully now she'd worry less. Minutes after Vic's voice had resounded soclearly through my head, I was in my car and on my way to Lily's apartment.
