Elias Collins

'Being a rockstar is an intersection between who you are and who you want to be. You hold the key to your own destiny- about time you start looking for the lock.'

That was the only real quote I'd put down.

At the time I'd written that off as a condemnation, that Elias meant to criticize the way I was wasting the opportunities being presented to me. And maybe that was true, but there might be more to it. Googling didn't turn up anything in this case.

Remembering the probable connection between Capricorn and Elias, it seemed to take on a less generic meaning. He wasn't just admonishing me for being a loser- he was disappointed in me for not fully playing the role Capricorn had chosen for me. He was trying to manipulate me as well, but in a more subtle way.

Once again, I tried to mentally list the facts, the things I knew for sure. We'd gotten signed to Akkadian Records right after Damien had died. Vic had told me that Elias had ordered Lily to shoot me up when I'd tried to quit on my own, after I'd promised my mother I was done, just so that I could play a show. Then he'd sent me to detox, true, but just in time to be coherent for Hellfest.

I'd even learned Elias had lied under oath and said that the entire thing at Hellfest was just planned theatrics. A light went on in my head. If Elias had been able to assert that no crime had been committed, then where was the body of the vessel I'd shot? Or had he meant that the whole thing had been planned, but gone awry?

Though I had known what I was being charged with, a lot of the details had escaped my notice during my breakdown, including the evidence stacked against me. If there was no unidentified body in the morgue, it was no wonder I'd been allowed out on bail. How convenient that the evidence should disappear.

It was Elias who had brought me representation, the father of the very guy we'd killed, and whom I suspected was the new vessel for Capricorn. I'd refused counsel, but Elias had brought him anyway.

Maybe I shouldn't have signed the papers for my release. Seeing Gretchen had tempted me; I missed her so much! It was surely no coincidence that she'd been present when the offer had literally been on the table.

No wonder Lily had chosen then to tell Gretchen I hadn't been to blame for all that'd happened. Capricorn, Elias, Lily- they must've planned it out so that Gretchen would forgive me when they wanted me vulnerable. Gretchen needed to be there to get me to sign that paper, nothing else would have. My love for her had weakened my resolve. They had used her, used her innocence to control me. How dare they!

Another piece of my mental puzzle fell intoplace. Elias wasn't just some record label owner, I could see that clearly now. That begged the question once again- how long had Elias and Lily known eachother? And why did they know each other?
