Chapter 9
Spring 1637
"Didn't his highness instruct us to kill that bird?" One of the guards said as they observed the raven inside the prison cell of the princess.
"How did it even get it in??"
"I don't know, but that bird always creeps the hell out of me."
"You know, a couple of weeks ago, I saw that bird turn into a human."
"What?!"
"Yeah, it has a face and everything."
"What does it look like?"
"Raven hair, dark blue eyes, small scar on his forehead."
"Could it be the demon she summoned?"
"She has that bird even before she killed her parents."
"But she found that bird in the castle's garden and it just keeps coming back until her father let her keep it."
"So, you mean to tell me that all this time that bird may be a demon."
"Not for certain, everything just adds up."
"Now that we're talking about this, the maids keep saying that sometimes they can hear the princess talking to a man in her room."
"Maybe it's the demon."
"Maybe she's sleeping with the demon."
"Now, that's a bit absurd don't you think."
"You're right, but that would make for a great rumor."
------
Jose smiled as he traced his fingers to the crown in front of him.
He has been the king for a few months now but in a few days, he will officially and publicly be crowned as King. And shortly after that Juvia's public execution will commence. Everything he had planned is finally paying off.
He stared at the red necklace placed on his neck. Ever since he got a hold of it he tried his best to use it but to no avail. He even asked Xavier for guidance but the wizard said that although the necklace gives the person wearing it protection and immortality the use of the gem depends on the demon it's from.
"A gift from that cursed prince."
His fingers traced the red gem, the iris moving slightly.
"Why would he give her such a thing?"
------
Juvia fiddled with her dirty fingers as she hummed a soft tune her mother always sings to her. Gray isn't able to accompany her in the cell for today as he is needed in Hell.
"Here you go!!!" The guards addressed her harshly, stepping inside the cell and giving her food.
She slowly walked towards the plate and started eating. She'd been treated as a prisoner for several months, given dirty rags as clothing, slept in a cold metal bed with barely enough cushion, given questionable tasting food, and her Uncle and even the guards would become her tormentor.
Knowing that Juvia can use magic, Jose placed a magical barrier rendering her powerless, this barrier also has an effect on Gray, he can't help her escape her prison but he still has the power to visit her, and to Juvia, that's all that matters.
Despite all this, Xavier and Rouge visit her quite often. Xavier is forced to do Jose's every bidding to protect Rouge from any harm. Xavier may be a strong and capable wizard but Jose is King and he has authority over him.
"His majesty's coronation is in a few days which means your execution is also near." The guard spoke firmly.
"Juvia's aware."
"Where's your bird?" He asked.
"Out. But he'll be back."
"How do you think he'll react when he saw you get burned at the stake."
"He's a bird, how do you think he'll react." Juvia rolled her eyes.
"You and I both know that thing is not a bird!" The guard snapped.
"He's not a thing, either!" Juvia retorted.
"Getting snarky now are we!!" The guard laughed as he whipped her back. Juvia hissed in pain as he continued to hit her.
------
"Did they hurt you again?" Gray asked.
"Juvia's fine." She whispered, stroking the bird's black feathers.
"I'm sorry. I can't do anything to help you." Gray lowered his head. Rufus was right and tried as he might, he couldn't seem to save Juvia from her situation. With Jose having the gem, he's protected and he can't hurt him.
"As long as you're here, I'm happy." The woman smiled.
------
On the day of Jose's coronation, the castle is filled with guests. The guard walked into Juvia's cell and handed her the food.
"Hey!" The guard called but Juvia didn't move from her seat.
The guard walked closer to her. "Hey!! You're not dead are you?!" The guard walked closer to her and suddenly Juvia grabbed his head and bashed it multiple times on the metal bed. Blood spilled on the ground.
"Darling, Juvia needs a brand new set of clothes." Juvia shifted her gaze to the raven who was just about to sneak into her cell. "and maybe a sword or two."
------
Jose kneeled down as the crown was about to be placed on top of his head. But everything stopped when a raven's squawk echoed through the halls, this took Jose's attention, and stood back up and turned around only to see Juvia dressed in a black laced dress, black fabric wrapped around her waist giving a bit more volume and train to the skirt portion of the dress.
A/N: I suck at descriptions so here's a photo for reference.
"Juvia's a bit upset that my dear Uncle didn't invite her to this wonderful event." Juvia chuckled, clutching a bloody sword with a black and silver hilt.
"How did you get out of your cell!!" Jose shouted.
"Juvia believes it's obvious by the blood." Juvia snickered.
"Guards!! Seize her!!" Jose ordered.
The knights of the palace are quick on their feet to obey their King. Juvia raised her arm and trapped the men in their individual balls of water that slowly drowned them all.
"Now." Juvia walked closer to Jose. "You'll pay for everything. Killing you on your coronation day is the sweetest kind of revenge."
"I've been waiting for this moment. Seeing that look on your face is delectable." She placed the blade of the sword close to his neck. "Thinking that everything you planned is going perfectly as you intended, only to crumble down before you at the last second." Juvia plastered a sinister smile on her face before chopping Jose's head off.
The crowd gasped in horror and quickly ran for their lives. The guards stood their ground and bravely ran close to her.
The archbishop who is holding the crown stood in silence as Juvia took the red necklace around Jose's decapitated head. He rubbed his thumb across the cross pendant on his chest.
"God please, have mercy." He mumbled.
"Juvia believes this is yours." She smiled at the raven flying above her.
She placed the necklace around the bird's neck and watched it magically disappear.
"You should go now, Archbishop," Juvia spoke.
Once the Archbishop is nowhere in sight, the raven turned himself human.
"So what are you gonna do now?" He asked.
"I don't know, Xavier said I have the perfect qualities to be a wizard. That could be fun." Juvia smiled.
"Whatever you want, I'll support you." Gray smiled.
------
Xavier sighed as he arranged the books in his quarters. He and Rouge didn't bother to watch the coronation. To him, Jose didn't deserve the crown.
"Xavier~." He heard a familiar voice.
He's shocked to hear her voice and to feel her presence.
"Your Highness." He turned around to greet the monarch. "How did you escape?"
"I gave them a false sense of security, they've gotten way too comfortable coming in and out of my cell without any thought that I could escape." She giggled. "I played them like a fiddle."
"What did you do?"
"Something I should've done years ago," Juvia replied. "Everyone thinks I'm a murderer where's the harm in adding a few corpses to the pile."
"But-"
"Xavier, you know my distaste for men like him. Obsessed with power, they need to be taught a lesson." Juvia smiled.
"What you did is still wrong."
"And if I didn't then what punishment will he receive."
"Hell exists for people like him and you know that."
"Your right, it's selfish of me." Juvia lowered her head. "It's just so much more fulfilling if I'm the one responsible for his demise."
"You have sought your revenge."
"I did." Juvia smiled.
"Let's have a drink then."
------
Multiple men, women, and children surrounded the castle demanding for Juvia to be punished.
The castle doors opened revealing Xavier. The crowd clamored and started shouting.
"Punish her!!"
"Burn that witch on the stake!!"
"Yeah!! Burn her!!"
"Everybody calm down," Xavier said. "The scene has settled, I have put the princess to sleep, and let's think about this whole situation rationally."
"But Xavier, she's evil!! You should know, you're there."
"I wasn't." Xavier clarified. "However, I did get to talk to her and she's different, somehow. I'm worried about her."
"Xavier, we know that you deeply care for her but what she did is unprecedented, she needs to be punished."
Xavier knows that the people want her dead and with Juvia's relationship with Gray she's most definitely gonna end up in hell. Human beings having relations and agreements with demons is a one-way ticket to eternal damnation. He cares for the princess but his interaction with her earlier scared him. However, he knows that she has a good heart.
The citizens are in unity, and Xavier can't seem to say anything to change their minds.
Princess Juvia Lockser will be burned at the stake later that afternoon.
------
The raven watched in worry as he stared down at the scene before him.
"Hello, again Demon."
Gray looked up and saw Rufus again.
"Are you perhaps here for her." He said.
"Of course." Rufus chuckled. "I can feel you want to help her."
"I do." Gray nodded.
"However, your name and face are known throughout the kingdom. You're physically incapable of revealing yourself."
"I know that!!" Gray snarled.
"Alright, alright." Rufus chuckled. "However, I can tell you a little something."
"What is it?"
"Looking through her data, there are two possibilities for her fate after her death." Rufus started. "It's either, she'll end up in hell or she'll become a demon like you."
"How are you certain?" Gray asked.
"It's written in her data. Nobody knows the qualifications of becoming a demon but I've noticed that all of them have the same mindset."
"All evil must be punished."
Rufus chuckled. "Spoken like a true demon."
------
Juvia woke up from her slumber. Her head ached, her last memory is drinking wine with Xavier in his quarters.
She's shocked to find herself tied up in a wood pole. She looked around and found the faces of angry citizens and Xavier's face filled with sadness, regret, and disappointment.
"I'm sorry my dear." He spoke softly. "I did this to you. I blame myself. I shouldn't have taught you all of those things."
"Xavier, you're a brilliant teacher." Juvia smiled. "This is all on me. It's my fault."
"I know, there's still good in you. You can get out of those ropes, you can live your life, redeeming yourself." Xavier smiled.
"What are you talking about, Wizard?!" One of the remaining knights shouted.
"I just-"
"Listen here!! You may not believe that she killed her parents but she still killed the King and my comrades, that in itself deserve punishment!!"
"Now, it's either you step away or I might do something you'll regret." The knight threatened the wizard.
"Hey!! Don't hurt him!!" Juvia shouted.
"You stay out of this!!" The knight aimed his sword at her.
"MEN, PREPARE THE FIRE SO WE CAN BURN THIS WITCH FOR GOOD!!!"
"Wait!! Stop!!" Xavier shouted and ran towards Juvia but stopped as he felt a painful ache in his chest.
"XAVIER NOOO!!!" Juvia shouted, tears rolling down her face as Xavier's body slowly fell to the ground in a pool of his own blood.
"Might as well shoot that bird. It will only bring us misery if that thing stayed alive" The knight pointed his shotgun at the bird sitting on one of the lamp posts.
"GOD NO!! PLEASE DON'T HURT HIM!!!" Juvia cried as the knight fired rounds of bullets at the raven.
"NOW, LIGHT HER UP!!" Another knight ordered the men stationed beside her.
Juvia sobbed and cried, unable to do anything. Her cries then turned into screams of agony which in turn broke Gray's heart. Juvia cried and screamed, cursing the town and its people.
From that day forward Amefurashi Kingdom became known as Amefurashi Village, a place where the rain never stops, some settlers become sick of the phenomenon and leave the village only for the rain to follow them wherever they go.
Rouge saw what happened that day, through the window of the wizard's quarters where he stayed. He saw his master die before him. Stricken with grief, he used his magic to collect everything that his master ever owned and took it with him as he ran away, leaving the village with nothing to help them solve their weather problems.
Every May 7th, the rain would pour harder, the wind harsher, and thunder and lightning crashed harder than ever before. This is the day that Princess Juvia Lockser is executed and the harsh phenomenon is a reminder of her never-ending curse.
The settlers sought help from Wizards and Witches everywhere but no one was able to help them. They keep saying that the curse is far too powerful as if it's been cast by a demon.
Nowadays, the settlers have grown to accept their situation, they've built enclosed gardens and plantations with alternative sources of sunlight so that the rain wouldn't ruin their crops. They have adjusted and are living quite decent lives. Every year on Juvia's birthday they would pray on her grave and ask for forgiveness and wish for the rain to stop.
So far, their prayers have not been answered.

This is the longest chapter I've written so far.
Juvia's backstory is finished, well not quite, she still has her story with Gray and how they fell in love and all that, but I'll tackle that in Gray's backstory.
Next chapter Lucy would meet a fellow human that would show and teach her new things.
Can you guess who???
Don't forget to leave a vote if you like the chapter. And give me some feedback. I like to hear your opinions.
Till Next Time
