Chapter 10

Lucy looked through her book once more. She had completed her interview with Juvia and Levy and after Juvia told her side of the story, Lucy took it upon herself to reread her biography.

Truth be told, she was amazed by the love between Gray and Juvia, that even after all they've been through and all these years they're still together. It makes her think that true love does exist.

"You've been awfully quiet," Levy said.

"I'm just thinking. Juvia isn't necessarily evil in her human life." Lucy replied.

"She's a kind person by demon standards but that standard isn't that high, to begin with," Levy said. "The whole concept of a human turning into an Angel or Demon is a whole mystery itself. Even Grim Reapers don't know anything about it."

"Grim Reapers, I haven't seen one before."

"Because you're not supposed to, Grim Reapers are complicated, they're ghosts with a physical form, humans can't see them but Supernaturals can. The only way for a human to see a Grim Reaper is if they're close to their deaths or they're blessed with a gift to see ghosts which is rare." Levy explained.

"I see." Lucy nodded.

Lucy knows there really isn't a rush to finish her paper yet, however, she finds everything she learns so intriguing and she craves to learn more.

"Lu, you're thinking about this project way too hard. Why don't you take a break for a little bit, a couple of friends and I are visiting a horse ranch tomorrow, you can join us." Levy smiled.

"I don't know, I don't wanna feel left out." Lucy tilted her head, contemplating her decision.

"Trust me, it'll be fun. Besides, I'll be there." Levy smiled.

Lucy giggled. "Oh what the heck, I'm in!"

Levy clapped and laughed in celebration. Lucy has put a lot of work and effort into the paper and she thinks a small little break would be nice.

It was late at night, the sky was pitch black and the only source of light was from the full moon and the twinkling stars. It's a quiet and beautiful evening.

A beautiful blonde sipped her hot chocolate as she admired the scenery out on the balcony of her apartment complex. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a familiar shade of blue.

"Jellal?" She called, which caught the vampire's attention.

"Oh, hey, Lucy right?" Jellal halted and floated his way closer to her.

"Yeah, that's me." Lucy chuckled.

"How's the research going?" Jellal asked.

"It's doing fine. I'm not in a rush, but I'm having so much fun writing it." Lucy smiled.

"Well, that's good to hear, however, I must leave, somebody's after me." He chuckled in a playful manner and floated away.

"What do you-" She was about to ask but what she heard next answered it. A woman with bright red hair jumped from above and landed on Lucy's balcony.

"WHAT THE FUCK!!" Lucy shouted in terror.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you." The woman spoke.

"Who are you?!" Lucy exclaimed, holding onto her chest, still recovering from the shock.

"My name is Erza Scarlet." The woman said, "Have you seen a vampire around these parts, specifically with blue hair and a red tattoo."

Lucy assumed she was talking about Jellal. "Why are you looking for him?"

"Because he's dangerous." Erza pulled out a wooded stake out of her jacket.

"What makes you think that, as far as I know, Vampires don't kill humans for blood anymore." Lucy used the information Jellal gave her.

"That might be true, but not all vampires are like that." Erza gripped the wooden stake in her hand tighter. "He's definitely not one of those."

Lucy shook her head, not wanting to deal with the aggressive woman, as desperately she wanted to defend Jellal.

"I'm sorry, but I haven't noticed any vampires around."

Erza looked at her and nodded. "In that case, I must go, once again, sorry for the intrusion.

The whole interaction got Lucy thinking of the Vampire race in general, Jellal told her the basic information about them but she wanted to go deeper, and she did.

She opened her laptop and did some research and she found out that Vampires are the fastest-evolving race in existence. There are a few changes every Vampire goes through as time goes by.

Some time ago, Vampires were only restricted to transforming into bats but now they can transform into any animal they desire; Vampires were unable to fly before but now they do. Some witches even theorize that someday Vampires won't be harmed by the sun anymore.

"Fascinating." Lucy gasped as she took notes.

The blonde didn't stop at that she also looked into the evolutions of different races. So far there are no records of any development that Angels and Demons have gone through, some say it's because they're already perfect.

"Neat."

She screamed at the sudden voice behind her. She turned around and saw Natsu in a simple dark red and white striped shirt, black pants, and black shoes.

"What the fuck Natsu!!!" She shouted. "Don't just barge in here unannounced!!"

"Sorry." Natsu chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.

"Jeez, you're gonna give me a heart attack." Lucy sighed. "Why are you here anyway?"

"Well... I'm bored and decided to visit my favorite researcher." Natsu smiled.

"Whatever." Lucy rolled her eyes.

"What you're looking into isn't even connected to your paper," Natsu commented looking at Lucy's computer.

"Well, I got curious," Lucy responded.

"You really are passionate about these things." Natsu's gaze slowly returned to her. "I wonder, why is that?"

"What?" Lucy arched a brow.

"There's got to be a reason right? Why are you so passionate about this, you know what you're doing is difficult and risky but you still went through with it."

Lucy took a deep breath and spoke. "Well... if you really want to know, my parents aren't fond of Supernaturals it took a lot out of me to make them accept my decision of studying at Fiore University. Humans and Supernaturals are not that different, at the end of the day, we're all living beings, well for the most part, and I want to show that, I want to live in a world where we can all live together in peace and harmony. Sorry, I'm rambling."

"It's fine." Natsu smiled. "I'm glad I got to meet a person such as yourself."

"Really?"

"Yeah, you folks are a rarity nowadays."

"What do you mean?" Lucy asked.

"Well, Demons and Humans don't particularly get along, we tolerate each other but that's it. Back in the day, we tried to earn a connection with them but that didn't turn out great. So now, we present ourselves in a way so that humans fear us to protect ourselves."

Lucy gasped, remembering something Levy had said. "Humans have harmed your kind before right?"

"Not just us, everyone." Natsu took a deep breath and clasped his hands together. "Demons and Angels are hunted and their power is used for their own selfish gain, Witches are burned at the stake, Fairy's wings are harvested, Giants are used as slaves. There's far too many to make a list."

"That's terrible." Lucy held his hands to comfort him. "But how exactly do humans take so much control over you?"

"Trickery. We want to form an alliance, a connection but humans are greedy, they want to have control over everything so they trick you into believing that we are a part of them but in reality, we're simply pawns, so we decided to teach them a lesson and put them in a place where they rightfully belong."

"You must hate humans then."

Natsu laughed. "Not really, some are assholes, some are tolerable, some are good, and humans are complicated."

"As a human, you got it spot on." Lucy laughed.

"So, do you have any significant experiences with humans?" Lucy asked, pulling out her phone.

"Are you seriously interviewing me right now?" Natsu chuckled playfully.

"We're on a roll." Lucy smiled, preparing herself to take notes on her phone. "You promised to help."

"I am a demon of my word." Natsu sighed. "Let's see, I believe I was born in 1598."

"You believe?" Lucy arched a brow.

"I'm old okay!" Natsu retorted.

"I died in my early 20s, and become a demon. I didn't leave hell for a couple of years because there are rules for that. My first major interaction with a human after my death is during the early 1800s. I'm already buds with Juvia and Gray at the time. We met this really nice King and Queen and their daughter, we're invited to a ball and the place is amazing, they're actually the first humans I've met that aren't complete assholes to other races. Others are actually jealous of them because of their immense connection  to Supernaturals." Natsu said. "They're was an assassination attempt and we helped out of the goodness of our black hearts." Natsu joked and Lucy laughed.

"The King and Queen are very grateful so they offered us to be knights of the kingdom. We really don't have anything of significance to do and we liked them so we accepted, it went on for years until we resigned."

"That's actually a really nice story." Lucy smiled.

"It really is." Natsu smiled back, his onyx eyes meeting her hazel ones.

The soft light of the moon developed the night sky. The princess stared up at the night sky, admiring the stars.

"I still don't get it." A baritone voice interrupted her thoughts.

She looked toward the figure beside her. Tall, devilishly handsome, even with that pink hair.

"It's not something that you would get right away." The princess spoke softly. "Look." She pointed at the sky.

"That is the constellation of Virgo the maiden." She started tracing the stars to form the constellation while explaining it to him.

"You're very knowledgeable at this."

"It's one of my greatest passion, I'm actually surprised you're not familiar with this." She replied.

"Magic is my forte, Dark Magic to be specific." He smirked.

"I don't mean to brag but my brother and I invented the damn thing."

"That's amazing." The princess smiled, her hazel eyes filled with excitement and joy, wanting to know more about the man beside her.

"I won't go into details, that's a story for another day."

Present Time

Lucy walked alongside Levy as they entered the ranch. There were already several people in but one stood out to Lucy the most.

"It's her!" Lucy shouted.

"Who?" Levy turned to where the blonde was looking.

"The woman who jumped into my balcony last night," Lucy said.

"That's Erza Scarlet, the most feared Vampire Hunter in all the land." Jet, one of Levy's friends said.

"What is she doing here?" Levy asked.

"Who knows let's just not get in her way, I heard she has a bit of a temper." Droy, a man standing beside Jet added.

Lucy's stare lingers on the woman, curiosity enveloping her mind. She might be biased as she has met Jellal first and the concept of a Vampire Hunter seems inhumane to her.

Erza caught her gaze and gave her a small wave before walking toward her.

"You're the woman from last night." She said. "I didn't quite catch your name."

"It's Lucy."

"Lucy." Erza breathed out. "Once again I would like to apologize for my behavior last night."

"Oh, it's nothing." Lucy chuckled. "It's not the weirdest thing I've experienced."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah, don't worry about it." Lucy smiled. "Did you find who you're looking for?"

"Unfortunately, I lost him." Erza lowered her head. "That bastard always gets away." She gritted her teeth as she balled her fist.

"You seem to have a vendetta against him."

"Huh?"

"It's obvious that this isn't the first time you tried to kill him and this isn't the first time he got away," Lucy said.

"Jellal Fernandez is an incredibly dangerous creature, my family has been trying to kill him for centuries and I will be the one who will slay him one day," Erza replied.

"Last night, you are quite certain that he feeds off of humans," Lucy said. "Truth be told, I've met Jellal and he's not a bad person."

"You know him?" Erza gasped, shocked by the sudden revelation.

Lucy nodded without hesitation. "I met him through a friend." Lucy hesitated on revealing the details.

"I see."

"Is there a problem?" Lucy asked.

Erza smiled. "Nothing."

"Just be careful around him."
