Chapter 1

The sky was tar-black, and the heavy sound of the rain pinged angrily against the glass, plunking onto the muddy earth. A beautiful blonde with hazel brown eyes looked outside her classroom window as her professor explained their final project for the semester.

Her name is Lucy Heartfilia and she's a grad student at Fiore University. The most prestigious and special University in the entire country. What makes this university so special?

Fiore University is one of the 7 universities in a world filled with supernatural beings that accepts all races.

It's a fun school, Lucy would admit. She looked back at the professor, who was a ghoul. He explained thoroughly their final project, which is a research paper. Lucy took notes and contemplated what would be her topic. She gazed upon her seatmate and best friend, Levy Mcgarden, a petite fairy with short blue hair. Her orange wings fluttered rapidly, a thing she does when in deep thought.

"You have the entire semester to finish this project so don't come to me and say that I didn't give you enough time." The professor spoke. "I need to evaluate your proposed topic first before you start writing. It can range into absolutely anything you want, the sky's the limit."

"That's all for today. You're dismissed."

"What are you gonna write Lu-chan?" Levy asked the blonde as the two girls prepared to leave the classroom.

"I'm not quite sure yet, but there's no rush, we have the entire semester." Lucy smiled. "But I do have a few things in mind. What about you?"

"I'm leaning more into herbal potions that witches use." Levy pondered and she grabbed her bag and started walking with Lucy towards and exit of the class. "But I could also write a paper about the evolution of fairies throughout the millennia."

"That's a thing?!" Lucy exclaimed, raising a brow with the sudden concept being introduced to her.

"Of course silly, I thought that's obvious. Humans have gone through evolutions and it goes the same with different supernaturals as well. Fairy evolution isn't quite known and still could be considered a mystery so it would be fun to research that. What about you?" Levy added.

"I'm not quite sure about this yet, but I wanna write something about the supernatural and their relationship with humans. You know like, how different supernaturals treat and view humans." Lucy said, fidgeting her fingers together, unsure of what her best friend would think.

"That means you would cover both good and bad," Levy said with a stoic face and an ambivalent tone, which raised concern in Lucy.

"Yeah." Lucy simply nodded.

"That's a great idea Lu, but also quite dangerous," Levy replied, the girls passing other students as they neared the exit of the university.

Humans and Supernaturals have a mixed relationship. Some tolerate one another. Some do not, some view humans simply as food, and most view humans as inferior beings. This view mostly comes from the powerful Supernatural races.

"I mean, you can easily get information from Fairies, Mermaids, Witches, Wizards. Grim Reapers are tricky but I can help you with that. Ghouls and Vampires are questionable but I think you can find some that would cooperate. It's physically impossible to contact an Angel if you're not a powerful being, I haven't even met one myself, and don't get me started with genies, those bastards are hard to find." Levy rambled on.

"I mean, I can just read books, they have information for those, right? I don't have to physically interview them." Lucy reasoned out.

"Oh." Levy gasped, realizing an aspect she had missed out on. "You're right. I forgot about that part."

"If I can't think of any topic by next week, I'll go with it. I want to at least have an accepted topic by the end of the month." Lucy said.

------

The cool night breeze whistled softly. A figure sat at the edge of a building. His onyx eyes stared at the scenery before him. He yawned, and black iridescent wings appeared on his back. He flapped then a few times before flying down, his salmon-colored hair flowing through the air, and as he flew through the empty streets of the city, he didn't think too much of the destination.

He suddenly stopped the moment he heard a scream. He quickly followed where the voice was coming from. Once he arrived he saw three zombies chasing a woman.

"Pesky little shits." He growled and flew closer. He landed in front of the woman and calmed her down.

"Don't worry." He stroked her soft blonde hair and held her trembling hand. Using his free hand, he snapped his fingers. The three zombies combusted into flames and were burned in a matter of seconds.

The blonde slowly looked behind her and was relieved to know that she was safe.

"Thank you so much." She gave him her thanks before looking back in his direction.

"It's no big deal." He said.

Zombies are mindless flesh-eating monsters and are considered pests to the other Supernaturals. They even compare them to cockroaches at times.

She looked at his savior. However, it's not someone she expected.

"You-you're a..." Her breath hitched at the sudden realization.

"A demon." His onyx eyes glowed red. "Don't worry, I don't bite." He smirked.

This is her first time meeting a demon. She expected herself to feel scared. However, she feels the opposite. She feels as though she knows she won't be harmed as long as he's there.

"You really should be careful, a human like you, alone at a time like this." He said.

"I know." She lowered her head. She had no excuse. She spent way too much time at the library. She forgot the time.

"Are you close to home?" He asked.

"Yeah." She nodded. "It's right around the corner."

"I'll walk with you then." He offered.

"Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother."

"Trust me." He chuckled and they started walking.

"My name is Lucy, Lucy Heartfilia." She said. "Thank you again for saving me back there..."

"Natsu. My name's Natsu."

"Right, Thank you for saving me and walking me home, Natsu." she smiled.
