Chapter 5

The duel went on for about half an hour, and Bakura seemed surprised that I was able to counter his moves and stay on the same level as him. But in the end, I lost the duel, and Bakura won with 200 Life Points remaining.

I put my deck back in my bag and got back on the ground. Bakura met me by the door.

"You're even better than I had expected," Bakura smirked.

"You're not too bad yourself," I responded.

We went back outside. The rain had stopped, and the clouds were beginning to break apart. I saw blue sky in a few places, and there was a rainbow by to the right of me, near the school.

Bakura grabbed my hand, not looking at me. "Come on, we have work to do."

Over the next couple of days, Bakura and I met and talked about the Millennium Items. I showed him my journal, and told him everything I knew about the 5 remaining Items.

I had told Ally we were only studying, and one day she walked in on us at the school library talking about dueling strategies. I told her we had just gotten off topic, and she left soon after, not wanting to "interrupt the magic of love," as she said.

Bakura had smirked at me. "'Magic of love?'"

I'd brought my hand to my face and sighed. "She's way too into romance. She thinks I'm going to be a cat lady or something."

"Well, there's no way to know until then."

"I guess...." I had no idea what he was talking about.

The next day, I went to school and sat at my desk. When the teacher arrived, Yugi and his friends weren't in class. Not that it was surprising, considering Duel Monster is apparently more important that having an education. It wasn't until after school that I learned that Yugi had been trapped in a terrible fire, and had been rescued by his friends, who suffered small injuries. But Yugi was admitted to the hospital for at least the next few hours.

Ally seemed really sad about not seeing Yugi today, but also relieved that he survived the fire. And I admit, I was worried too. I mean, what if the Puzzle had turned to ashes, or melted in the heat?

Bakura glanced at me as I was walking down the hall. I nodded to him; a signal that I would meet him outside.

About five to ten minutes later, I had arrived at the front entrance of the school. Bakura was waiting in the shade beneath a tall tree. I walked over to him, a suddenly grew nervous. Why exactly did he want to meet with me? I mean, we had been meeting and talking about the Items every day after school, but usually at my house or in the library. Why did he want to meet outside unless it was urgent?

"Need something?" I asked him.

"Let me see your notebook." He commanded.

I obeyed and pulled my journal from my bag. The notebook itself had been a gift from my father. He had been in Egypt and saw it. Knowing I loved to write and doodle in little notebooks, he bought it for me. It was only now, as Bakura gazed upon the cover of the notebook, that I realized it had the same eye-shaped symbol as the 7 Millennium Items.

I glanced from the notebook to Bakura.

"Where did you get this notebook?" He asked, his tone of voice demanding.

"My father bought it for me in Egypt." It couldn't be. There was no way. "It's just a coincidence, right? I mean, didn't ancient Egyptians wear jewelry with this symbol? It can't mean anything."

Bakura muttered something under his breath, then gave back the journal. He spoke up. "For your sake, I hope so."

That caught me off guard. I tilted my head in confusion. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. Come on," he said, pulling on my arm. "We have work to do."

We were walking down an alley when Bakura's Ring started to glow. I jumped, but Bakura remained calm. He glanced down at his Item, and I followed his gaze. One of the dangling gold rods on the Ring, looking almost like wind chimes, was pointing. I looked to Bakura, who simply motioned for me to follow him.

We followed his ring for a few blocks until it led us to the Domino Museum. I glanced at Bakura again, but he was already heading inside.

Once we were through the doors, the Ring seemed to glow brighter, if it was possible. It seemed as if it was pulling Bakura somewhere, not just simply leading the way. I followed curiously, wondering where his Ring was going to take us.

It lead us to a blocked off doorway, which Bakura seemed to have no problem moving the velvet ropes and opening the door. They opened up to reveal a dark staircase. Bakura carefully led the way, his Ring illuminating the path.

We reached the bottom of the staircase, and opened another door. It led to a well lit basement, full of artifacts that were left out of the exhibits.

We wandered the room for a bit. The Millennium Ring had ceased it's glowing, so we could no longer rely on it to guide us. So we just continued to walk around the basement, staring at artifacts, hoping for something to jump out at us.

Bakura suddenly froze. I stopped shortly after, almost running into him. He was staring at something hanging on the wall. I followed his gaze, and my jaw dropped.

We were staring at what appeared to be an ancient stone slab with carvings of Duel Monsters cards engraved upon it. I walked around Bakura to get a better look, but something else caught my eye.

I gasped loudly.

"Pipe down, would you?" Bakura whispered.

"But, Bakura. Isn't that Yugi?"

Bakura walked over to me and examined the second stone tablet. There was a carving etched into it that appeared to be Yugi Motou, his Millennium Puzzle hanging from his neck, and the Dark Magician floating above him.

Bakura gave a light laugh. "It appears so."

While Bakura was still studying the tablets, I got a cold chill up my spine, and quickly turned around. I looked across the room and tried to peer into the adjacent one that wasn't lit, but I couldn't make anything out.

"What is it?"

I jumped at the sound of Bakura's voice. I quickly answered. "I felt like someone was watching me. I don't like it down here, Bakura. We shouldn't be here."

Bakura laughed. "Do you want the Millennium Items or not?"

"Is this really something we should be talking about now? Anyone could be hiding in the place. We should go. You've seen what your Ring wanted you to, right?"

Bakura shook his head. "My Ring only points to other Millennium Items. So there was one here until we got here, then it vanished." He thought for a moment. "Maybe you're right. We should get out of here."

Suddenly, he grabbed my hand and started pulling me back toward the stairs. I took one more look into the darkness, and gasped. There was a dark-skinned woman standing there, with long black hair and a silky white dress, the Millennium Necklace around her neck. She had one hand on her necklace, and the others' index finger at her lips, silencing me. Her blue eyes slowly closed, and she backed away into the darkness.

"What is it?" Bakura asked.

I turned back around to face him, still wide eyed. "Nothing. A statue startled me is all.

Bakura muttered something about me being a stupid girl and a scaredy cat, then pulled me out of the museum and into the cold night air.
