Chapter 23 - Aftermath
It has been a few weeks since saving Ina from the Ancient Ones. Ina managed to bring Calli and Kiara back along with assisting in the cover up of the Ancient's massacre. However today was the day of the HoloFestival, a momentous occasion where before New Years Day, they celebrate in their own special way, the Hololive way. The civilians were allowed to participate and many things alike. But William was still trying to take in everything he had experienced, even if he was asked by the Myths to go with them to the festival, he declined. He wanted to be mainly by himself and watch people enjoy themselves, it somehow would give him a sense of comfort.
He let them go to it by themselves, mainly because he probably didn't want to go in the first place. It was dead of night and the festival was continuing as intended by the company and bad things didn't happen, so he was in a park by himself, sitting on a bench, mostly having a conversation with Asher. Though he could see Asher standing in front of him with his hands in his pockets.
Asher: "You know that you should have joined them right? You could have had some time to unwind.."
William: "When did you get soft Asher...? I honestly pictured you to be so cruel, but now you turned a full 180 degrees?"
Asher: "As much as I hate that you point things out, but you are not wrong.. However you still need to unwind since things can never go your way when you think it would."
William: "That I am aware of.. I just don't want much to do with the girls right now... Calli and Kiara are getting along fine. Amelia and Gura are doing their best to help Ina recover and it seemed to be working. Together they are like a family supporting each other in their endeavours. And I told Amelia last week that I would be quitting the agency since Amelia has more things on her plate and it would be best that I stay out of it."
Asher: "You are quite distant and cold aren't ya?"
William: "I do it to protect those I care about.."
Asher: "I get what you are saying, but that will only harm you even further than what was already done..."
William: "After saving Ina... It made me realize something... The reason they went after me was because I was attached to them... If I wasn't, none of this would have ever happened... Berlin would have been in a better state, the world would not have been aware of the supernatural... I, one individual, changed the course of history and I know that..."
Asher: "It was only a matter of time before everyone else figured it out. Mortals tend to stick their noses in other messes, so they have a high probability of uncovering what was wrapped up. As you already saw, most of the news have been covering the Berlin incident."
William: "Yeah..."
???: "Excuse me, are you perhaps William Bismarck?"
He turned his head to see who was asking him the question. He then saw Yagoo, the CEO of Hololive.
William: "Indeed I am, who is asking?"
Motoaki: "I am Motoaki Tanigo, but I am referred to as Yagoo where I work and run my company."
William was a little surprised to meet Yagoo at a time and place like this.
William: "Tanigo sir, are you sure that you shouldn't be at the festival?"
Motoaki: "On the contrary, the girls planned this, not me."
He then had a seat next to William. He was of course suspicious on why Yagoo would meet him in the dead of night, in the middle of a park where anybody could just wonder here and listen in.
Motoaki: "I was just taking a stroll and I ended up meeting you here, quite a small world we live. Especially amongst the things beyond our understanding right?"
Yagoo's smile was real, yet William felt like he should smile back in politeness.
William: "It sure is sir..."
Motoaki: "I have read a lot about you, especially with the new reports that came by my office. You saved the Myths and possibly the world from suffering from a calamity. You still have to make up with some of the girls in my company building you know?"
William: "Yeah... I still need to do that... Everything had been busy and I was just trying to find my footing... Everyone in the company is much more nicer than expected. Although I feel slightly out of place if that makes any sense sir.."
Motoaki: "Seems like it."
He then offered William a canned drink of some kind, though he was confused at first, he accepted it. Once he opened the can, he took a sip from it. He could tell it was more of an apple flavour of some kind, not his most favourite, but he will drink it.
Motoaki: "Say there is a new group that has come by my office recently and they wanted to stay around to learn more about what we all could offer."
William: "And what group would that be?"
As he was gulping his drink down, Yagoo mentions the group which William didn't expect to hear.
Motoaki: "A group that calls themselves the Council."
The moment he heard that, he spat out his drink, coughing until he recovered.
William: "The Council..?"
Motoaki: "Why yes. They were kind about it, well most of them were but besides the point. They wanted to stay here on Earth for a simple reason, because of you Bismarck."
William: "Why me...?"
Motoaki: "Perhaps it is something that you did. But they were convinced and now since they want to stay, we have to keep an eye on them at all times. And we need someone to watch over them. Would you like to watch over them for us?"
Asher: "Sounds very tempting.."
William: "Are you asking me to be a manager of sorts..?"
Motoaki: "Not necessarily, but however you will be their guide to understanding our cultures. Plus maybe if you are successful in fully integrating them, you might end up with marrying one of them."
This left William in a confused mess, letting Asher chuckle at this while Motoaki did a light laugh and stood up.
Motoaki: "All jokes aside Bismarck, I know you needed space, but this could be a great start. You will be able to do what you want and even be able to help others. What do you say?"
Yagoo then outstretched his hand for a handshake. William was a little hesitant, but he stood up and took the deal by shaking his hand.
Motoaki: "Good, I knew you would take this opportunity."
William: "Well I need a different change of pace anyways."
Motoaki: "No worries, I will inform you on the arrangements tomorrow. They came to me directly a week ago, so they were already settling in to their new home. So see you then Bismarck."
Yagoo then walked off, with William left speechless and confused on what he got himself into. At this point he felt like he just became part of the Corporation, yet at the same time he didn't.
Asher: "Such a strange mortal.."
William: "What do you mean..?"
Asher: "He is just a normal man, yet he is able to run his own corporation while keeping an eye out on the supernatural. Helping them out. Not for money or fame, but because he wants to help others. He has a good heart."
William: "I suppose so..."
Asher: "At this point, I suppose it wouldn't hurt for you to get some rest now so you can prepare for tomorrow. Since Enma was taking charge of the Myths."
William: "Yeah..."
William then started to walk off, but stopped when he witnessed the fireworks in the sky, looking at the beauty of it all. It was the sign that it is now New Years Day.
William: "New year, new resolve right?"
Asher: "That is how you all put it, yes."
