|| Chapter 29 Borderline ||

Sometimes,

It takes an overwhelming breakdown to have an undeniable breakthrough.

~Poetic Garb

ANONMOYUS P.O.V.

"Shit!". The man yelled frantically, as he pushed past the crowded doorway. A few grunts and shoves the consequences of his hurried movements.

His palms shaking, whilst the back of his neck filled with perspiration, he continued to push his feet against the dry wood not once taking a stop.

Finally reaching a set of glass doors he halted, clearing his throat, and sucking in a deep breath. He fisted his palm and pressed it against the cool glass.

"Come".

Ever so quickly the wolf obeyed, immediately stepping foot into the place of his doom. He scanned the room anxiously before settling on the tall figure at front.

The man sported his usual business suit, though a tie was of exemption. His jet black hair swiftly tucked to the side and scruff kept short. He sat straight in the leather chair, his eyes a startling electric blue which held most captive and in danger.

"Well...?", the man questioned.

"They're dead, all two of the wolves we sent", the wolf rushed out.

The man fisted his palms and smacked them against the oak desk. Growling, the man slowly stood up his eyes transitioning to black whilst his pulse points throbbed incredibly.

The wolf immediately cowered away, looking nowhere but the ground.

"Is there anything else!", the man yelled as he circled his desk and neared the wolf.

"I-I Y-yes we had an informant waiting at the borders. A Rogue. They spotted a rogue in the pack".

The man halted, both feet stationed onto the ground. Ever so slowly he turned around facing the wolf, "A...Rogue", the man hastily voiced.

The wolf's face immediately perked up, his eyes filling with a new light and determination "Yes! Yes it was a she-wolf, she killed one Rogue and Alpha Vincenzo killed off the other".

He perked his eyebrows in response to the information, how was it the notorious Rogue massacring Alpha housed a Rogue in his pack. He turned on his heel and began to walk back and forth while mulling over the news.

"Ah... there's one more thing, sir...", the wolf anxiously scratched the back of his neck.

The man narrowed his electric orbs onto the wolf's face, whilst levelling him with an expectant look.

"The Mark. The she-wolf has the mark, sir".

His eyes grew wide in response, his stern expression cracking a façade his jaws set and eyebrows scrunched. Multiple thoughts passed through his very mind, many racing with the understanding of what the wolf had just voiced, it couldn't be possible—It must be a lie.

"Sir...", the wolf tried to speak, though was cut off by the man's raised palm.

"Bring her to me", he growled.

"But the pack? What are we to do with the Alpha", the wolf questioned with uncertainty.

"No matter the cost, bring her to me".

The wolf nodded in understanding; He'll have theRogue.

ANASTASIA'S P.O.V.

To your left Anna!

I immediately spun on my heels and swung my right leg out in a roundhouse kick, my foot contacting the stunned warrior.

I bounced back; both my feet were covered in specks of dirt. I looked up quickly noticing the warrior immediately clutching his nose while releasing a loud grunt. His expression changed quickly turning more sinister and determined as he started running towards me.

Why do they have to keep on fighting?

I sighed, already annoyed with having to fight my way through. Nothing was ever easy, especially in a pack deemed lethal by a crazed Alpha.

Bunching my knuckles, I ran towards the warrior giving as good as I could get. He kicked out his leg which I tried to dodge but failed to. His foot kicked into my right hip leaving me momentarily unbalanced and causing me to stumble back a few steps. Now I'm angry. I looked down at my hip then glanced over at the warrior whose nose glistened with spots of crimson.

Roxy was growling viciously, her sneers echoing my thirst even more.

A deep earthy rumble built up in my chest, my lungs expanding and giving way to the most ferocious growl. I couldn't contain it. My chest hurt, and my throat burned as I lifted my face to the sky and released the growl. My eyes now stung as my body rejoiced in the powerful movement.

Through hooded lashes I glanced at the warrior his dark brows were raised and his mouth hung open. Within a second he dropped to his knees his head bent down respectfully not once attempting to look up.

I slowly trekked over to the warrior, my feet picking up grass and hair flowing freely behind me. I bent down enough to peer at the warrior's face, my throat still ablaze and voice still thick I growled, "Arrivederci. You can pass that on to your Alpha".
(Goodbye)

The warrior nodded in response. Not once breaking his position.

"Is everything okay?", a warrior yelled in the distance. I looked up noticing a warrior wolf standing a few meters away he looked between me and the current man on the ground. His eyes grew weary by each passing second and body tensed as he continued trekking towards us.

I looked down at the warrior raising my brows out expectantly, with no response I kicked out my foot pushing it into the warrior's side and earning a small grunt.

"Yes—everything is fine Dusten".

"Okayyy", the warrior drawled out.

Although something tells me it wasn't okay, looking over my shoulder I glared at the wolf and noticed his slow approaching steps. Like a wolf trying to calm down a rabid animal.

Anna Roxy warned.

I know.

I quickly pushed the wolf beneath my feet and stepped to the side pushing my feet against the dirt.

"Hey!", the warrior yelled.

Growling I pushed my feet quickly, dodging fallen twigs and jumping over large rocks. I ran with determination towards the very border which had kept me trapped. I was close, I could feel the slight hum of energy radiating from the border without looking back I pushed my feet off the ground taking a leap of faith.

Umph both feet on the ground I sighed and glanced over my shoulder "I did it", I whispered.

Roxy began to howl in the depths of my mind Roxy? What's wrong?

Pain, Roxy howled.

I grimaced as I re-called George's earlier words, "The bond will suffer" he emphasised.

I took a deep breath as I felt a sense of dread settle over me, dark clouds began to invade my mind my heart began to beat radically. In a mere second, my whole body began to ache as I tensed my limbs. It's as though a stone sat right in the pit of my stomach it weighed me down and left me incredibly nauseous. Roxy's howls intensified with each passing second.

"Ahhhh", I screamed clutching my head between my palms. My legs quickly gave way, as I dropped down on the ground in utter pain.

Breathe I tried to remind myself, Breathe. I gulped taking in a deep breath followed by another and another until my heart began to slowly settle.

Roxy, I pleaded it hurt so much to feel her pain and to see her in agony.

Roxy only whimpered in response not able to form any words, I sighed I'm sorry Roxy.

I looked down at the oversized shorts I wore, slowly I reached towards the side pocket pulling out the contents and turning it between my palms. The plastic crinkled and bent in odd angles but in the middle was a slightly dried herb its radiant green as bright as the field around me.

I'm sorry, I pleaded.

I broke off a small piece from the herb and swallowed it down. Wet drops began to fall off my cheeks as a burning sensation took over my throat. I sobbed, trying to keep down the bane as I felt it move inch by inch down my throat.

I shook my head waiting for it to fall to the pit of my stomach, my tears continued to course down my cheeks leaving a stream at the base of my neck. it was the only thing that could push away the connection and feelings from the bond but in turn, it also took away Roxy.

Anna! Roxy yelled.

Her voice quickly became a distant echo as the bane began to settle through my veins. Soon I lost her in the distant maze of my mind... I quickly crunched the paper wrapping and placed it hurriedly into my pocket. I've never taken bane before so I was hoping It didn't have any nasty side effects.

Taking a deep breath, I rolled my shoulders back then began to bounce on my feet slowly awakening each nerve and bone in my lower body.

Feeling each joint come to life I pushed my legs forward running through the mass of green before me. The wind suddenly picked up causing the field of green to shake and stretch as it came to life. I smiled to myself I was free though I wish I could share this moment with Roxy.

I looked up scanning the proximity of the black forest, it was appearing closer and closer as I trekked forward. I planned to travel through the forest as a shortcut to reach the bar if I continued to run for a few hours, I could make it within a day. As I continued to run past the expansive field, I noted how each section seemed slightly familiar as I had driven past the fields when running short errands for Jackson.

I reached the border of the forest, it was dark as I'd envisioned tall trees scattered around the perimeter its bark cracked and withered. Branches cracked beneath my feet as I tried to avoid the small rocks which were embedded deep In the earth. I tried to unlock my senses to truly grasp my surroundings, but each time I tried I came out short. I cursed under my breath it was the effects of the bane.

Now, this was dangerous, I was completely exposed and vulnerable only a mere human amongst a wild forest. Despite the bane I continued to push forward I couldn't afford to stop for even a short break.

My mind suddenly wandered towards a certain blue-eyed Alpha. He is probably very happy he no longer has me around. Did he also share the same pain I felt? I shook my head immediately he's an Alpha one whose fierce and cold-hearted I'm sure he can't even feel it.

I sighed, why on earth was I his destined mate? but most importantly why couldn't we simply be rid of the bond. Other wolves acquire the help of a pure enchantress and simply break their bond.

I thought back to the witch encounter, "... she will come to you dear...she is the destined one...". I rolled my eyes, witches are way too cryptic and I wasn't a destined anything I was simply a Rogue paired to a cold-hearted Alpha, though certain events continued to leave me in a state of confusion.

Why save the one person you want to be rid of?

"Ahh", I shouted trying to stop my mind from creating more redeeming thoughts on the Alpha. The whole situation was a chaotic mess.

I looked ahead seeing the darkness continue to grow thicker and thicker with each passing second. I was deep in the forest now and there was no turning back now.

~~~A few hours later~~~
 I sighed with relief after several hours on foot I managed to now see the outskirts of light and the fluorescent lights of the bar. A small smile slowly appeared on my lips I was beyond exhausted but relieved to finally reach the endpoint. I stopped running now, my feet sore and cut in many areas I pushed it one last time to slowly walk towards the bordering line. I was right in the border of the forest one step forward and I'd be graced with light.
Though suddenly I felt a tingling sensation creep onto my neck. The small hairs on my neck began to rise. I halted, trying to quieten my haggard breathing, and slowly peered over my shoulder.
I think someone else is here.
*crack*
I heard a branch snap in the distance, my body automatically tensed; ever so slowly I turned around. My heart was racing I felt defenceless without Roxy, I took in a shaky breath attempting to narrow my tired eyes in between the dark trees.
Purple. Purple like eyes shone in the distance between the ray of ebony. Is this- my thoughts were cut short as a low sickening growl filled the unearthing silence.
The growls continued to come closer and closer, I gulped trying to position myself into an attack stance.
"Anastasia is that you!?".
I jumped at the voice, my heart racing tenfold and palms shaking at my sides. Before I could get a better look at whatever was there the growling ceased and branches shook as it disappeared. I blinked, my every limb still tense and ready for an attack. I suddenly felt an irritating sensation take over my neck, I raised my palm and scratched the birthmark on my neck.
"Anastasia!", the man in the distance behind me yelled again. This time his tone indicated a hint of impatience.
Sighing I slowly turned back around, facing the borderline and the luminescent bar.
I took a small step forward, welcoming the light.
I'm finally here, I thought.
Although I couldn't shake off the eerie feeling that I was being watched.
