ALPHA VINCENZO P.O.V.
I cycled through the paperwork effortlessly. Mindlessly moving the ink over each page to sign and authorize each report. The paperwork and reports were endless and time consuming, the office quickly becoming a place where I lived and breathed.
Sighing, I dropped the pen with a thud and began to extend my arms cracking my knuckles in the process. The movement itself thrusting blood to my poorly circulated fingers, I looked back at the steel like pen before gripping it once more between my swollen fingers.
Just as the ink was about to spill onto the report and leave a permanent stain the door flew open. I blinked maintaining my stoic expression, "What is it Beta Ethan?". I growled, not bothering to hide my irritancy at the interlude.
"ATTACK! ROGUES. BORDER." Ethan rushed out breathlessly. He was a panting mess, sweat dripping against the sides of his face. His eyes wide with shock and arms lifted in an exasperated manner.
That jolted me out of my seat and right towards Ethan, I glared at him indicating the need for more information, "Where?", I growled. Ethan gulped, "T-the orphanage Alpha".
"Shit", I muttered.
My mother.
"Secure the perimeter, no one leaves or is let in", I shouted loud enough for Ethan's volatile ears to hear. At least I thought so, with no response I stepped closer smelling the coffee which he must have consumed for lunch.
"Do I make myself clear". I growled menacingly; this Beta was pushing his luck.
"Yes Alpha!".
Black Moon wolves secure yourselves inside, we are under attack. All warriors protect your pack. Defend the borders.
I sent the mindlink quickly to all members with that done I pushed pass Ethan and ran towards the main foyer. I could already smell the fear radiating from the pack, as each member scattered away with many running inside.
As soon as I stepped outside, I noticed the chaos unfolding wolves running to safety while warriors ran to danger.
I pushed my legs hard and fast against the brittle grass the orphanage was a few meters away, shifting now would limit my ability to assess the situation especially with Ezekiel at the forefront.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Dusten lower his head my way before he too ran towards the border joining the other warriors.
This wasn't the first time we were attacked, and I had a feeling if Rogues continued to live amongst us, it wouldn't be the last either. Ezekiel's ears perked up as a loud bustling growl penetrated through the air.
I quickly came to a stop, my heart racing to an indescribable pace my lungs burning with the need for oxygen. My palms shook at my sides please not her I begged the goddess. The memories threatened to rush to the forefront of my mind, the very memories I'd caged and attempted to abandon.
Salty drops of perspiration covered my forehead, as I fought against the memories ahhhhh her screams echoed in the depths of my mind the one word ingrained from her final request... "Run".
Ezekiel growled in my mind sharing the same sense of agony at the thought. I took in a large breath trying to steady myself before kicking back at the grass and busting through to the scene.
I was only a few meters away when I saw two retreating figures and small children following behind. I lifted my nose to the sky taking in the scent which confirmed it was my mother and the Hanna girl.
Dusten head towards the orphanage. Protect the Senior Luna and pups at whatever cost.
Yes Alpha.
I sighed in relief knowing Dusten would do the job, I turned around as I heard leaves crunching before Beta Ethan appeared by my side, eyes focused and scanning the scene.
I continued to scan ahead till my eyes landed on a certain rogue. I blinked at the sight in front of me my eyes zeroing in on the rogues ready to attack, their eyes a wicked purple and form quite large for any ordinary rogue.
"Zanton Rogues", I declared.
"Shit", Ethan muttered. He quickly turned his head my way his eyes holding a serious edge to them, he rolled his shoulders back and fisted his palms by his side, "Alpha I can handle them now".
"Not yet", I nodded towards the rogue who had now transitioned into her wolf. Her fur bouncing up and down in waves as the wind rushed through her form. The rogues eye a piercing black which was a stark contrast to her light fur, she stood tall shoulders hunched and ready to face off the Zanton wolves.
What the fuck is she doing?
The first of the Zanton wolves charged forward running straight towards the rogue, the rogue took off at the same pace not once hesitating.
She's a rogue, how is she going against her own?
It didn't make sense. I watched closely my eyes narrowing when the rogue side stepped the Zanton wolf and turned her snout quickly enough to latch onto his neck. She bit hard, blood spluttering down her snout and onto her fur.
The Zanton wolf let out a yelp before the rogue twisted her head to the side completely snapping the wolf's neck. The wolf immediately crumbled like dead weight onto the grass, it's blood coating the earth and seeping past the dirt.
She wasn't too bad in wolf form.
Ezekiel purred in pleasure as he continued to watch his mate in complete fascination a true luna Ezekiel roared. I rolled my eyes at the remark a Rogue, never to be a Luna Ezekiel growled in response.
I continued to cycle through the same question which piqued my curiosity...Why go against the very species you were brought up as? why betray your own kind?
She's not the same as the others Ezekiel declared.
I snorted in response, too soon to be declaring that, wolf. Ezekiel growled in response, far too keen in placing the Rogue on a pedestal.
"Alp—", Before Ethan could finish, a sickening howl reached my ears.
I snapped out of my daze looking back at the rogue, the other Zanton wolf pounced onto her leg, her eyes quickly becoming glassy as the first visible signs of pain shot through. The wound, gushing with crimson leaving her delicate fur with clumps of matted messiness.
"Run!", the familiar voice in my mind pleaded again. The shrill scream and desperate plea of a woman. My hands shook at my sides, palms filling with sweat I tried to look up tilting my head towards the sky taking in the deep breathes to calm my racing heart.
But I continued to hear the shrill cry of the woman, "Run!". Growling I tried to focus back onto the rogue, though my vision quickly became a foggy mess.
"Alpha!", Ethan screamed.
Though I couldn't hear him clearly, like I was stuck in a tunnel wind pushed against my ears making sounds come in dis-jointed waves. I sucked in a lungful of air; I could feel Ezekiel being sucked away into the same tunnel leaving us disconnected.
At that mere moment I felt powerless.
It was disgusting, like I was stripped away from my own skin and forced into another. The horrifying screams continued to sound through along with the shattering of bones which took over my ears making it the only sound I could hear.
"Alp—"
I shook my head, not now, not here I thought. I did the only thing, that could quieten down the vengeful haze. At first, I couldn't feel anything then slowly I felt the drops bounce against my boots.
Glass. Shards, lethal and deadly began to pierce against my raw flesh, drawing sullener drops from my arms, the very signs of my existence escaping in drops of crimson. I sighed in relief once the world around me settled back to its ordinary self.
"Alpha, oh my god! Stop! Stop!", Ethan's frantic voice clearly shining through. No longer caught in the haze, I blinked before spotting a frantic Beta blocking my line of vision.
He immediately took off his shirt and bunched it up into a small ball quickly pressing it against the open source of crimson. Ethan continued to mumble something under his breath before placing more pressure against my arm. I let him waddle for a few minutes, before I snapped.
"That's enough", I pulled my arms out of his hold leaving the soaked shirt in his arms which had quickly turned a deep red. His skin stained just as much mine, though the crimson marks never left me. At that solemn moment it gave me peace and reassurance that stability power can exist again.
"But Al— ", Ethan tried to reason with me.
I growled cutting off his anxious demands, it's not the first time I've experienced it I didn't need any sympathy. I narrowed my eyes to the Betas, his eyes held the look I'd despised the most, the look of helplessness...the look of someone who felt sorry for his Alpha.
"Not a single word and wipe that fucken look off your face Beta", I growled out.
Ethan raised his brows in shock, before quickly applying the familiar stoic expression most Alpha's spotted.
I slowly side stepped the Beta, trying to get a clear view of the Rogue. I took in a deep breath, the blood of the Rogue immediately crept into my nose stinging my nostrils and leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. I narrowed my eyes noticing the Zanton wolf rolling on top of the Rogue with clear access to her neck.
Fuck
Ezekiel howled noticing the compromising position the Rogue was in, I felt a sudden rush of heat penetrate through my veins.
There's no way you're dying on my watch Rogue, not until I'm done with you.
I pushed my feet against the brittle grass, running towards the two battling wolves. The wind whipped viciously against my tall frame and in turn I pushed against its tormenting flow. Nearing the Zanton wolf, I immediately let loose and welcomed Ezekiel's presence.
I began to slow my pace stalking ever so slowly, my right arm quickly shot out in a sickening angle. Soon enough a crack echoed through the clearing as my leg gave way. I grunted falling onto the ground.
I became a panting mess, breathing heavily as my chest caved in and out to support the erratic transition, my legs quickly turning into paws and my fingers replaced with claws.
Once on all four paws, I fixed the dishevelled Zanton wolf with a wild wolfly smirk while his back was still turned to me.
I suggest you get off that wolf quickly, she belongs to someone, I mindlinked the Zanton wolf.
Just as he was about to attack the Rogue's neck he halted, clearly hearing the link. Ever so slowly he lifted his snout which dripped with the blood of his enemies. He first removed his scruffy paw from the Rogue, then turned excruciatingly slow towards Ezekiel's hunched form.
The wolf's orbs glowed a dark shade of purple, a disgusting reminder of his wild attempts at attacking my pack and the Rogue I couldn't afford to loose. Ezekiel growled a loud before pouncing towards the wolf, he pushed his paws against their limits ensuring the impact was all to brutal.
The Zanton wolf instantly mirrored Ezekiel's actions, running head on to meet his end. From the corner of Ezekiel's eye, a wolf appeared running alongside him, Ezekiel growled ferociously a warning for the Beta to simply fuck off.
His mine, Ezekiel roared into the Beta's mind.
The beta wolf halted quickly, following Ezekiel's orders, and bearing witness to the impending fight.
The Zanton wolf was close enough as he snapped his jaw at Ezekiel aiming for his neck, but Ezekiel was quick enough to dodge the attack by manoeuvring his weight to the side in time.
The wolf quickly recovered, growling he turned to strike Ezekiel's underbelly with his muddy claw. Ezekiel, quickly crouched onto the ground rolling out of the wolves reach.
I'm sick of this cat and mouse game, let's finish him Ezekiel. The wolf was clearly too weak and uncoordinated in his attacks.
Huffing Ezekiel jumped onto the wolf's back pinning him down from behind, the wolf squirmed on the ground trying to throw Ezekiel off his back.
That didn't deter Ezekiel, in fact he held on tighter until he finally found the right spot pulling his jaw back Ezekiel pierced his the wolfs neck penetrating through the core vein which had once promised to circulate his blood.
The wolf howled as his neck spurt out with blood quickly creating a deep pool of crimson on the grass. Ezekiel twisted his head left to right before a snap broke through and the wolf underneath fell limp.
Ezekiel slowly lifted his paw standing up and away from the dead wolf, he scanned the field spotting the Beta wolf clean Ezekiel grunted. The Beta wolf lowered his head in understanding and began to trek towards the dead wolf.
The wind howled pushing against Ezekiel's blood-stricken fur, he continued to stalk towards the trees before shifting and releasing his final holds.
I quickly grabbed a pair of shorts, which was stuck in-between one of the trees. I pulled them on quickly then turned around to collect another pair of shorts and a shirt.
Trekking back I ran towards the Rogue, still in wolf form she continued to scan the field until settling on my approaching figure. She huffed pushing her paws against the stiff grass, "Shift", I ordered once reaching her.
I threw the spare shorts and shirt right at her paws, "Now", I growled. I crossed my arms, levelling the Rogue with a glare. Huffing she collected the clothes between her jaw and trekked towards the forest. A few minutes later, a figure began to appear her blonde curls bounced freely against her back, her arm wrapped around the waistband of the shorts tying a knot on the side, clearly to big for her frame.
"What the fuck was that? Who are those wolves?", she rushed out while fixing her own glare.
"You're welcome after all I saved your pathetic life" I grunted.
"Please I had him, if it wasn't for your 'I'm a powerful Alpha and will piss all over you' moment I'd be the one who had my teeth deep in his neck", she shouted rolling her eyes accusingly.
Little did she know the battle I had with power. I straightened my back and narrowed my eyes onto her blue orbs.
"You lack a lot when it comes to your attacks. You didn't stand a chance the moment you were under him", I grunted.
This time she stepped closer, narrowing her eyes and shifting them between each of my orbs she folded her arms and pulled on a wicked smile.
"So why did you save me? A Pathetic Rogue like me with 'poorly measured attacks'", she quipped her smile widening just a little.
I stared at her blinking slightly at the question, clearing my throat I growled, "Need to know basis".
She clucked her tongue, "You know what I might just start to think you actually like me Alpha, who would have thought your hatred would quickly turn into smouldering love", she announced coolly her eyes portraying a hidden glint.
This time I took a step forward placing myself right in front of the Rogue, I leaned in lifting my palm and cupping her cheek. The rogue halted, her eyes narrowing and following the movement.
"Not over a million years sweetheart, so quit dreaming", I mused.
She stuck out her tongue slowly wetting her lips, my eyes following the movement too closely. She leaned in closer, her breath blowing against my neck her eyes completely bemused.
"I wouldn't dare sweetheart, I value my life all too much", she whispered in a raspy voice.
My jaw ticked at the remark, she was playing with fire all too carelessly...
